I really can't be arsed with your digs at Will Euromusic but I think you'll find Will has had quite a bit of success in South Africa & Ireland & a minor hits in Australia, Sweden, Denmark early in his career.

Leona is doing really well just be happy for her & stop keep trying to pull Will down in the process. Her career is just in it's infancy & although her sales have been truly phenomenal we'll have to wait & see if she has longevity.

wow very impressive success! Let's hope she becomes a worldwide star (but let's hope she doesn't develop a Joss Stone style ego)

Actually Gareth Gates had a #1 hit with Anyone of Us in most if not all of those countries you've listed in 2002 and where is he now...actually where was he in the second half of 2003 or 2004/5/6 and 7 ;)

Not knocking Leona's success at all she has a good voice and Bleeding Love is a catchy song...good luck to her but one hit single/album does not make for a successful career...ask Kelly Clarkson, Daniel/Natasha Bedingfield, KT Tunstall,Joss Stone etc,etc,etc....

I'm not knocking these other acts, but just as Kelly Clarkson is the only singer from American Idol to achieve international success (although i'm sure Carrie Underwood could achieve similar success if she released outside the North American continent), it seems that Leona could be the same. But as you hinted, let's see how her next album turns out. If that was also an international hit then she will definately have made it.

Joss has no ego. She's a well brought-up girl who appreciates her fans and has certainly never shown arrogance. ^_^ Don't judge her just on what happened at the Brit Awards.

Of course Gareth wasn't a winner of either of the competitions mentioned, so his name shouldn't really have been brought into this discussion but of course it has, because as we all know, some people can't resist having their `little dig'. Yes Gareth had very considerable success in most of those countries, not just with AOU but with most of the music he released in 2002, 2003 and again when he toured in 2004. Since then as we all know he decided to take a three year break and that along with the quite considerable bad press he received back at the time, lost him a lot of his popularity.

As for where he is now, as far as I'm aware he's very happy with where he is in his life at the moment. He gave his fans a beautiful Christmas message which stated that there were lots of things in the pipeline, which he wasn't allowed to talk about at the moment. I'm sure one of them is that he's going to be competing in Dancing on Ice, but I'm really looking forward to hearing what the other things are.

Gareth may not have had huge success in this country in 2007 but his album did reach No2 in Korea, as well as other quite considerable success in Asia.

I wouldn't write him off just yet if I were you. He seems to be very happy with his life, which is what is most important.

Well done to Leona with her success. I hope it continues. Also I think Shayne has had quite good results abroad as well.

Will had minimum success in Europe in 2002/3 by doing minimum promotion apart from Italy and Holland, where he did concerts and spent 26 weeks in the top 30 with LMF, since then he hasn't promoted/released hardly anything in Europe at all. He's done a little bit recently in S Africa where he's gone Gold with his three albums. Gareth and Shayne have both had major successes in Asia and Europe but they both went and spent time over there doing lots of promo and gigs, but none of them has ever got the blanket airplay and promo that Leona is getting, courtesy of Simon and Clive Davis "getting" it for her. Ok, Bleeding Love is an ok song, but name me any new/unknown artist from anywhere, who's had as much airplay and promo as her worldwide without even setting foot off the beach?

Huh? Your argument is flawed from the start because she has only done promo in the UK and Ireland so far. And how can Simon and Clive "get" her airplay? International countries are playing it because it's a fantastic song, she is getting huge airplay worldwide because of the song, most of these countries will have never even heard of her before.

No offense but Will Young HASN'T had ANY minor hits here in Australia. Not one song of his has reached the top 50 here... Just thought I'd clear that up :)

My post wasn't intended as a "little dig" at Gareth but to show that initial overseas success doesn't necessarily ensure a long lasting music career. In the beginning Gareth did have considerable success in many European and Asian countries but sales in these countries are quite insignificant and the fact that his second album failed to set the chart alight in the UK and his arena tour wasn't exactly a sell out led to him eventually being dropped by his record label....and yes Gareth is relevant to this discussion because (and I'm sure you know this) although he didn't win he was being touted as the winner all over Europe and Asia.

Euro Music....you say you're not knocking those other acts but your relentless nastiness towards Will Young in particular says otherwise imo. I have no problem with you not liking his music or his voice after all that's subjective but he at least deserves some respect for being his own man...he turned his back on Simon Cowell soon after he won PI and has pretty much carved out his own career. He may not be a huge international star but sales of nearly 4 million (from 3 albums) in the UK alone isn't bad going in my book.

Getting back to Leona, I think it's a case of "watch this space".

No, Gareth is not relevant to this discussion. He was not touted as the winner all over Europe and Asia. That `myth' was a `fabrication' invented by those people who couldn't accept the success he had abroad. Its amazing how a few dozen or so people with their very clever way of spreading incorrect information over the Internet and the media were able to influence people's perceptions the way they did, and still do, if they think there is any chance someone new will be successful.

There may have been one or two occasions when Gareth evaded answering questions, but as he's explained recently, that was because, with his very obviously debilitating speech problem, it was the only way he could handle interviews. Rather than those resentful people trying to understand his problems, he was practically persecuted for them. I just hope they are proud of themselves.

Anyway, this topic is about Leona and I wish her all the luck in the world with her career and I hope Simon, (now that he's had a sample of what can happen as a result of pure jealousy) has found a way not to let the same happen to her.

That's one of the funniest things I've heard in a long time. Cowell stopped supporting Gareth when he stopped making money for him, simple as.

Back to Leona I can see her having HUGE success in the states with Spirit. She can't fail with the heavy weights behind her. I just hope she's always willing to release the kind of music they want her too (which appears to have been decided on X Factor, not the genre she was previously persuing) as I'm sure Kelly Clarkson can testify Clive Davis is just as ruthless as Cowell. Not many survive when they turn their backs on their 'makers.'

Off course he did. Its the reason behind why he stopped making money for him I'm referring to, as you very well know and which I hope he doesn't allow to happen to Leona. So please stop trying to twist my words.

Not even going to bother responding to your post other than to say it's given me the biggest laugh I've had in ages...so thanks for that Val ;)
