Posted January 2, 200817 yr I thought this would be best placed here instead of the TV forum (if you perfer it moved then I dont mind  ) http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e15/pink_princess01/new%20album%202/320px-10045196.jpg Taken from wiki: Laurel and Hardy were the American-based comedy team of thin, British-born Stan Laurel (1890-1965) and heavy, American-born Oliver Hardy (1892-1957). They became famous during the early half of the 20th century for their work in motion pictures, and also appeared on stage throughout America and Europe. The team is considered one of the most famous and finest double acts in motion-picture history. The two comedians worked together briefly in 1919 on The Lucky Dog, released in 1921. After a period appearing separately in several short films for the Hal Roach studio during the 1920s, they began appearing in movie shorts together in 1926. Laurel and Hardy officially became a team the following year, and soon became Hal Roach's most famous and lucrative stars. Among their most popular and successful films were the features Sons of the Desert (1933), Way Out West (1937), and Block-Heads (1938) and the shorts Big Business (1929), Liberty (1929), and their Academy Award-winning short, The Music Box (1932). The pair left the Roach studio in 1940, then appeared in eight "B" comedies for 20th Century Fox and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer from 1941 to 1944. From 1945 to 1950 they did not appear on film and concentrated on their stage show. They made their last film, Atoll K, in France in 1950 and 1951 before retiring from the screen. In total they appeared together in 106 films. They starred in 40 short sound films, 32 short silent films, 23 full length feature films and in the remaining 11 films made a guest or cameo appearance. This has got to be one the best things EVER made. I grew up watching these with my grandad, and they still make me laugh today. My boyfriend has the box set with the DVDs and I love watching them over and over again. I think my favourite is probably Way Out West, thats the one I used to watch the most with my grandad, he used to cry-laughing at them everytime :)
January 3, 200817 yr totally agree! laurel and hardy were groundbreaking and arguably the only thing to come out of the states that WAS cutting edge funny... sooo influencial, their legacy can still be seen today (homer simpson 'doh'... ) . my fav was possibly 'beau chumps'.... love the way hardly looks directly at the camera, involving the viewer... another fav is when they find themselves drunk inside a police commissioners (or summut) house with his wife who they accidentally get drunk... they sit together on a sofa, and start laughing.... it gets louder... I DEFY ANYONE not to start laughing along with them!!! no dialogue, just laughter... i also love the incidental music!!!

January 4, 200817 yr thats the hallmark of great comedy, the way you can watch it time and time again and still laugh at it. laurel and hardys false impression that its simple belies the fact that its hilarious on so many levels. very few comedies can be viewed repetedly, the young ones, blackadder, fawlty, greenwing as well as l n h. interestingly, all these programmes derive from l&h, by caricaturing themselves as some clownish characters.
January 6, 200817 yr i dont like them, prefer Harold Lloyd and the Marx brothers when it comes to old B&W films (dont like B&W that much but will watch these)
