The films of Michel Gondry:

1. The Science of Sleep

The film tells the story of the shy Stephane (Bernal) who is coaxed back to his childhood home in France after his mother offers him a job. The job turns out to be very mundane, which sharply contrasts his vivid imagination. He also finds that his dream life is increasingly encroaching upon his waking life. Stephane is quickly drawn to his neighbor, Stephanie (Gainsbourg) whose imagination easily matches his own. As their relationship blossoms, the confidence Stephane exudes in his dreams begins bleeding over into his real life.

liked this film a lot, even though it was a bit indulgent at times and didnt have the structure to the script that Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind had. Actually a very sweet film and visually great (no surprises there). loved the one second time machine

and btw Emma de Caunes, i wonder if her dad allow her to play 'sit on me'

I love Gondry, he did a grea job with this one. It was sorta expected for it not to be as good as Sunshine seeing as that he went solo on this one but its direction is up to par. The movie is very "nice" and really exposes Gondry's wacky, strange, and cool ideas. My favorite was the one second time machine, that was just great.
not forgetting his stunning videos for Massive Attack, Bjork and Radiohead among others.... in fact, I think he works better as a pop promo director because Eternal Sunshine and especially Science of Sleep veer too often into overlong glossy kooky pop video territory...
I agree with you partly. In Science of Sleep it's preety clear to see what part you mean but its not the case for ESOTSM. Why I think Sunshine didnt have those elements was because Kaufman was with em. Kaufman would simply not allow em to after Clooney fk'd up his script in Confessions of a Dangerous Mind. I think it's because Gondry went solo that he added those elements to it. Nevertheless they were done excelently, especially the "grand theft auto" scene  . Hope Kaufman and Gondry team up again in the future.

I want to talk about Be Kind Rewind which will probably be the best comedy of 2008.

When Jack Black accidentally erases all the movies in the local video store, he and Moss Def work to reshoot the classics to save Moss's job. It's a hilarious premise, and this Be Kind Rewind trailer is super fun.

Will the music of Moss Def be featured in the soundtrack?

And for that matter will Jack Black contribute? he is a musician too... isn't he?

going to see it tonight once I've finished work, Looks really good and I love Jack Black. anyone else seen it?

Was going to start a thread about this today as I saw it last night. It's pretty good, not fantastic but it's a nice surprise that the film isn't a knockabout, typical Jack Black comedy and finds the time to be nicely sentimental.

Hope you liked it as it's not standard Jack Black stuff.

The IMDB forum for this film is funny as it's full of people complaining about it because they were expecting School of Rock or Nacho Libre.

I'm finally going to see this this weekend and I'm toooo excited! I've been wanting to see this for an age, it looks adorable! ASDOESMOSDEF'SFACE.

I for one am glad that it wasn't another "School of Rock" or "Nacho Libre" (or, worse yet "The pick of Destiny".... -_- ), no, it's good, pretty damned good in fact, Jack Black actually being required to show a bit more depth and dimension to his acting, he should do it more often, it actually suits him well...

Michel Gondry doesn't make that sort of one-dimensional "Yank Comedy" sort of stuff, he really gets the best out of the actors he works with, he worked miracles for Jim Carrey in "Eternal Sunshine...", and here it works again...

It looks good, I don't know if I will see it though...
I really liked it but most people came out of the cinema saying it was c**p lol. School Of Rock is still my fave of his films
This film is so $h!t i went to see it and i never even laughed once, at one point i actually fell a sleep, although the ending was good but that is about it

I'm so scared too see it ahah, I know it's not meant to be a School of Rock or anything, and have been reading that it's pinned to be a Jack Black film and his name's even creditted above Mos Def's (whose like the maaaainest character, non?) - But I just don't want to be super disappointed or anything.

WORRYING. I'll just keep an open mind I guess.

well thats cool as its had some average reviews but i guess youve really gotta be in that Michel Gondry-midset...loved the science of sleep even tho true it was a bit over the place - but so inventive - so i guess will like this one as well
