Posted January 5, 200817 yr 1978 RETRO RECORDS OF THE YEAR :cheer: :yahoo: :w00t:  Vote for your favourite Top20 (or minimum Top10) from the list of 50 Records from 1978. Your First choice (Favourite) song will score 20 pts, 2nd = 19 Pts....down to 20th = 1 point. Please state in your list if you are scoring by position or Points. I am playing this game across both BuzzJack & UKMix. Therefore if you vote please can you only vote in one of the sites threads especially if you have a different name on each site (like me). For each year 1964 to 1997 inclusive & games (*) for the years 1960-1; 1962-3 & two alphabetically track name split lists for the 1950s. There are 50 tracks that I feel best represent the year* in popular music. This certainly does not always mean the biggest hits of the year, but tracks (including album tracks) that over time have come to best represent the year. Please note songs will only feature once for the most well-known or definitive version of a song (example “Without You” will only appear in 1972 for Nilsson, but will be absent in 1994 for Mariah Carey). Also please don’t mention that I have put the song in the wrong year as the year the track was recorded, released (on an album), a hit (peaked) in the UK, a hit (peaked) in the USA can result in three of four different answers, and there will be literally hundreds of songs that fall into that category. For each game you will have four weeks to get your votes in (two weeks for the vote from the shortlist of 50 songs, then two weeks to vote from the "Missing" songs that you have nominated). I will be posting two of these Games a Week at the weekend. (VOTING RULES FOR SPECIFIC GAME 1950s: Top25 make the Record of The Decade Final; 1960s & 1990s: Top 4 From Each Game make the Final, 5th to 10th make the Play-offs; 1970s & 1980s: Top 3 each year make the Final, 4th to 8th make the Play-Offs. PLUS: Your choices of missing songs being included in the relevant Play-offs) Phase 2: The Record Of The Decades Finals will result in the following numbers making the Final 200 (1950s: Top20; 1960s: Top50, 1970s Top45; 1980s Top45; 1990s Top40), where they will be split into 4 Quarter Finals, leading to the Final 50 Songs of the Retro Record Game A: Vote for your favourite 20 (minimum 10 out of the following:) 10cc - Dreadlock Holiday Abba - Take A Chance On Me Althia & Donna - Uptown Top Ranking Andrew Gold - Never Let Her Slip Away Bee Gees - Night Fever Bee Gees - Stayin' Alive Bill Withers - Lovely Day Billy Joel - Just The Way You Are Billy Joel - My Life Blondie - Denis Blondie - Hanging On The Telephone Bob Marley & the Wailers - Is This Love Boney M - Rasputin Boney M - Rivers of Babylon Bonnie Tyler - It's A Heartache Boomtown Rats - Rat Trap Buzzcocks - Ever Fallen In Love Cars - My Best Friend's Girl Chic - Le Freak Clash - (White Man) In Hammersmith Palais Commodores - Three Times A Lady Donna Summer - Macarthur Park ELO - Mr Blue Sky Elvis Costello & Attractions - Pump It Up Elvis Costello & Attractions - Watching The Detectives Frankie Valli - Grease Funkadelic - One Nation Under A Groove Genesis - Follow You Follow Me Gerry Rafferty - Baker Street Jacksons - Blame It On The Boogie Jam - Down in the Tubestation at Midnight John Paul Young - Love Is In The Air John Travolta & Olivia Newton-John - Summer Nights John Travolta & Olivia Newton-John - You're The One That I Want Kate Bush - Man With The Child In His Eyes Kate Bush - Wuthering Heights Meat Loaf - Bat Out Of Hell Meat Loaf - You Took The Words Right Out Of My Mouth Olivia Newton-John - Hopelessly Devoted To You Only Ones - Another Girl Another Planet Patti Smith Group - Because The Night Public Image Ltd - Public Image Rod Stewart - Do You Think I'm Sexy Rolling Stones - Miss You Rose Royce - Love Don't Live Here Anymore Siouxsie & The Banshees - Hong Kong Gardens Trammps - Disco Inferno Undertones - Teenage Kicks Village People - YMCA Yvonne Elliman - If I Can't Have You B: Nominate Two songs from 1978 MISSING from this 50 track shortlist. The songs finishing 4th - 8th position will go into a Play-off, where the Top20 Songs will join the other 30 in the Final. While your selection of missing songs will be put to a vote with the winning track (or tracks in event of a tie) joining the Record of The Decade Play-Off. You have until Saturday 19th January to vote for your favourite Top 20 (minimum Top 10) songs of the Year. I will then reveal the results of the vote along with your selections of the "missing songs" from the original list for you to vote for an extra song for a place in the Record of The Decade (1970s) play-offs
