Beautiful isn't it Meg :) I have to admit, I listened more to that one than colourblind

This particular lady only tuned in to Pop Idol to watch the final, and was instantly hooked on Will. She had heard D's name but never seen him or heard any of his music.

In answer to my original question, I think I would have to choose Chrysalis To Butterfly, as it features such an incredibly pure vocal from D, and shows his skill on the guitar. This would be closely followed by the secret track on Dive In, which was the acoustic version of Gotta Know Tonight, and an acoustic version of Live Twice.

I know there is no way of showcasing all D's skills in just 1 of his songs, but sometimes you only get one chance to let people who are too busy or generally can't be bothered, to hear and experience D for themselves. That was why I asked the question in the way I did, restricting people to just the one song.

If I was going to pick just one song right at the moment - then I'd choose Right Girl, Wrong Time. Everytime I've got Darius's music on in the background - it just really captures my heart  - but it's never been released so maybe it doesn't really count and also the meaning for Darius touches me, whereas for someone who doesn't know anything about him - it might not - but that can be said about a lot of Darius's songs for me though really - I relate to his stories/lyrics because I know something about the meaning for him. Right Girl, Wrong Time really captures me on a musical level as well though - it's reminiscent of some old Beatles songs that I used to love - like And I Love Her and If I Fell - not quite sure what it is - the simplicity, but something else too - so maybe if she likes that type of old Beatles stuff, she might like that one too? I do think it's very personally subjective though - the 3 you've mentioned I just wouldn't choose myself. Chrysalis to Butterly has never been a favourite of mine anyway, but I remember it got right up some Will fans noses at the time anyway - due to the fact that they misinterpreted what Darius actually meant when he said "sometimes bronze makes you the winner" :D Also myself, I much prefer the album/fully produced versions of both Gotta Know Tonight and Live Twice - so we differ in our tastes there too - which I suppose is why I suggested to go with the poll results - as those choices would appear to favoured by more people than any of our individual choices ;) - but anyway, now you're cheating - you said 1 and that's 3 you've chosen ;)

No, I am not cheating, well not really. I just suggested a couple of alternatives that came close, but only picked 1 :P

Actually, the lady in question came to give me my break the other day, and I returned a few minutes early so I could let her listen to my mp3 player. Now, this may be cheating a little, but I didn't have CTB on there, so I let her listen to Mercury Rising, and then a little of Stars Crash Down. She seemed to quite like it, saying after Mercury Rising that I was an old romantic :) She also then went on to say, I may have a companion for D's next concert  I am not sure if she was being 100% serious, but she did seem to like the music, and she is a really nice lady, so we will have to wait and see :)

Sounds promising :D and I knew you'd find a way to weedle in more that one however you try and wriggle out of it ;) :P I bet next time you change shifts and have a few mins to spare, there might be one or two other Darius tracks, that just happen to be in the right position on your mp3 player ;) :D

 I think next time I will make sure I have a cd with me. That way, whilst i am out on my break, I can leave it playing for her enjoyment :) She is such a lovely lady, she may have been being polite, because she knows how much I love D, but hopefully she really did enjoy her little snippet, and will listen to some more :)

Personally I can't understand why anyone wouldn't/doesn't enjoy listening to Darius's songs - because I think they are really good - most of them anyway :D - I know what you mean though, but I hope she does like them for real - it's a lovely feeling when that happens  :)

Hopefully there will be a D gig in the near future. I can welcome her to the Church of D. We can draw near the barricades together, and worship :yahoo:

Lyn thinks D has a good voice, is a nice person and is good looking, but she just doesn't like his style of music  She likes songs to have deep gritty meanings, and personally I don't think she understands a number of D's songs that would tick these boxes for her. She did listen to the whole album with me when I first got it, liking most of the tracks, but not loving any of them :( Ihave tried with her, but years of Beatles/Stones and the horrible Bob Dylan(no offence to Bob fans :D ) have addled her brain methinks :P

Hmmm, I think that most people don't realise the meanings and depth of meaning in Darius's songs either, I think a lot of them have 'gritty' meanings myself, though as he tends to do anyway, he generally puts a postive focus into them, turns the negative to a postive which maybe gives them an overall lighter feel - maybe? I've already said elsewhere that some of Darius's songs actually remind me very much of some Beatles music - so, there's maybe a window there - I wouldn't describe the Beatles as especially gritty though either. I've never been a Bob Dylan fan - I just don't like his voice/sound, but I think he's written some good songs. The Stones - again some good songs, definitely grittier generally than Darius - Darius is just gritty in a gentler way ;)

More talcom powdery than gritty :D Whatever he is, I love him and his music
