this is Juno - its gonna be one of the films of the year according to loads of people - and is written by Diablo Cody who came to fame doing lots of Skin Trade at the p*ssy Ranch and writting about her time as a stripper.

Juno is a black comedy film starring Ellen Page stars as Juno MacGuff, a whip-smart teen confronting an unplanned pregnancy by her classmate Bleeker (Michael Cera).

It has been stated that Diablo Cody got her name from an album track froma band called Arcadia, who are actually just Duran Duran being very pretensious. So how pretensious can Duran Duran get??? did they turn like a viable art-rock experience or did they end up being more of a second rate roxy music???

and if the track was credited to duran duran (like it was in empire) would you pedantically complain.

The track in question was:

Arcadia - El Diablo

Arcadia was formed by 3 remaining members who did not join the Power Station, so yes with Nick Rhodes dominating the proceedings the music got very pretentious in a late Roxy Music meets Japan sort of way, but is a sonically superb sound that only could have been made in the 1980s.

You must have heard the lead single, but the video is a candidate for the most pretentious video made of all time and is worth it for (the unintentional laughs and) gothic imagery:

Arcadia - Election Day (album length video)

However, the irony is it (So Red The Rose) is a better album than 80% of Duran Duran's back catalogue.

will have to find speakers to watch / listen (is it as funny as def lep??)

so what was the point of the album then? why not just credit it to duran duran??? is it any different? and was there any andy warhol involvement???

was it gonna be a bit like a Rain Tree Crow [or rain tree cow] type of thing???

Arcadia's 'Goodbye Is Forever' was a brilliant track.... Election Day, too.
i dont think they were pretencious.... it WAS the eighties! lol.. and many dance producers use several psuedonyms to produce different styles of music, like having several parellel careers, so i see no harm in dd splitting and doing various side projects.

so they were doing dodgy gay disco at that point (for the G magazine crowd i guess  )

Was Rain Tree Crow all members of Japan, like The Alarm/The Poppyfields?, as Arcadia was only three of Duran Duran's members :).

Yes:

Rain Tree Crow - Blackwater

Another band who did the same trick was XTC:

Dukes of Stratosphear - The Mole From The Ministry

Dukes of Stratosphear - You're A Good Man Albert Brown

but wasnt both different? wasnt XTC a side-project muck-about for an experimental super-psychadelic wigout heavy messabout man?? and japan was a reformation of the members not wanting to be seen as plinky synthpop types

wasnt the pseudonyms used in XTC's side project more like Dr. Calculus???
