I would love to know what stores you all shop at! I work in a Woolworths store and our stock came in this week and we were all gobsmacked at the fact theres so much! Now I only do an hour on Entertainment on a Saturday (and when I'm usually needed when they are busy and Wed Aft) But what came in today's load was AMAZING - We do actually have every single in chart!

And as someone pointed out - some stores have "Cardboard Single Stands" - that all depends on the size of the store. Another person also pointed out, "out of stocks" - well have you heard of the "Big Red Book" & "In Store Ordering??" means you can get it that way - i should know as thats my department and I get the funky Lime Green Top too! haha

You must have better Woolies, in Scotland then! Most in England are absolutely limited/small...and the staff, are they okay?

The thing is with me, I don't buy CDsingles no more, I used to when I was younger, but now you play them once or twice, and that's it, they end up in the cupboard somewhere gathering dust. I just buy CD albums, as I know I'm getting more tracks on there. I just think CD singles are just on their last legs to be honest and struggling. I do buy 7inch vinyls quite a lot when there is a limited picture discs and coloured vinyls.

By ok do you mean have they been waiting over a year for a fleece??? then YES. lol I've been there for over a year and I'm still waiting on my fleece and with the 60 mile winds just now and it being really cold er.....I demand one! lol Yeah staff are ok theres more male staff there now since there was only 1 before now there 5 haha. It's our uniforms thats the problem with the suppliers being used to having orders for female staff - they keep sending the wrong uniforms! the only thing that I got right was my badge and my tops.

Sounds about right. Be careful though! I was a manager once in Woolies..in those days, it was deemed not safe, to wear name badges, because some "strange" person, might get your full name, and find you, in the phone book, and even stalk you....it was dodgy! Always make sure your name badge only has your first name, on it. And do not operate machinery with it on either. I still reckon name badges should be put in the waste bin, actually. I would never had my staff wear them, for loads of reasons, even health and safety. What are your rules these days?

Well I'm glad their stocking Britters at least!

I second that!

Well we don't have our last names on them - just our first (in my case middle) lol don't ask long story! And what kinda machines are you on about? the guns??? How is that classed as unsafe?? It isn't fair though why should I have to wait over a year for my friggen uniform???

We probably ain't allowed to play it though due to it probably having curse words or references to "ass"

Well on the name badge thing...If I remember from my manager days, while stocking the shelfs etc, you end up with lots of waste cardboard/paper/plastic etc...now the store where I worked was large, when it was known as F.W. Woolworth (the original, man who founded the company). We used to have to take the waste etc, to the loading areas, where we had to operate compactors, and cutters for card, and stuff...it was deemed dangerous to wear Jewellery, loose fitting clothes (i.e. ties) and name badges (that may come undone) and get stuck in moving parts of various apparatus. Which certainly has its points. There was a case (not Woolies) where a chap got his arm stuck in a compactor because his badge, fell off, and got stuck between the mechanism, of a machine that was in operation! Very ghastly, that was. Name badges, have a lot to answer for...take another example, in a shop like Sainsburys, they have Bakeries/restaurants...now they tell you you are not allowed to wear any jwellery...but they tell you, that you must always wear a name badge. Correct me, but isn`t a name badge, similar to jewellery? Is that stupid or what!

I know what you mean about not being allowed to play certainn songs in the shop...Take PINK and GET THE PARTY STARTED, we had a complaint (again not Woolies) where a woman was apparently offended when Pink, sings "Kissing My Arse"....Strange enough, no one complained when we played "JET`AIME MOI NON PLUS by JUDGE DREAD!! How about that!!

It makes you laugh, when they stick their own singles chart on the wall...and then don`t bother stocking singles, anyway, which is just plain stupid. The physical should be iven more exposure. The download chart, is heading for a takeover bid. It`s a sad day, and no mistake.

Their chart sometimes went oops-up even before downloads took over anyway. I remember going in there to find Feeder's "Shatter/Tender" single on it's release date, and the chart display said #6, but when you looked in the #6 shelf, it was empty, same for another Woolies I tried too. I went to Virgin to buy those Feeder singles, way before it changed to a Zavvi.

Woolies, like HMV only stock "their" chart. Up until recently, it was more or less guaranteed if Woolie's didn't stock your single then bye bye any chance of a Top 30 chart position. I think it's terrible really, I didn't think it's a fair chance for any artist - who is a shop like Woolworths (which isn't even a proper record store) to by default dictate who will have a hit?

Think about it this way - in many towns Woolworth's IS the only record store and only hardcore fans will travel to the next town or nearest city to pick up a single release. The download thing is obviously affecting the impact Woolie's chart has on the proper UK singles chart, but the store still affects the albums chart - have off the back catalogue dreck that fills up the chart is 'coz Woolie's is over concerned with cheap compilation promos.

I remember that, they used to have something like over half of the weekly singles market sales.

When they decided to stock Feeder's "Buck Rogers" single, I knew it was gonna be a massive hit cos of that. Woolies even made cards saying "FEEDER- Are Well Worth It", a pun on their then advertising slogan- "Woolworths- Well Worth It". It's quite a collectors item amongst us Feeder fans, they were posted out with other goodies by Feederweb when they did a fanzine :).

haha - "Worth It" is our own range of stuff now so we can't really say that anymore as it is really cheasy - I think one of our temp recruits said it and I thought - thats just really sad! haha. Don't get me wrong or anything....but when your in Scotland and customers FORCE open the doors so they can get prams in - it ain't half rude to leave the till operator sitting there cold while your sprog and urself are wrapped up in scarved and they go "aren't you cold?" That really does my head in! Wouldn't be cold if you didn't leave the door open!

Once again with the singles - it ain't really our fault that we haven't got the stock - it is really difficult to aquire all the tastes of everyone now adays with all this cheesy stuff like Samanda n c**p coming in. I remember at christmas Leon was due to come in - but the DELIVERY guy didn't arrive with the stock - so this customer accused me of hiding them - no my collegue at Entertainment said he isn't lying - I pulled the singles drawer open and yelled out "Does it look like theres 250 Leon singles in here?"

That slogan felt cheesy at the time!, not just looking back . How does the stocking work?, is it based on the idea what the locals would like to buy? :).
