92% say pull out of Eurovision

Belgian radio listeners vote: no more

After a reported 1,5 million Belgian TV viewers looked on as favourite Kate Ryan was knocked out of the contest at Thursday's semifinal, some 92% of voters in an SMS poll think that Belgium should no longer participate.

Popular station Radio Donna held the SMS poll to measure the reaction of Belgians to the shock disappointment of semfinal failure. The overwhelming majority of no votes paints a good picture of the disbelief and anger felt towards Kate's abandonment by European televoters.

Disappointed but strong

Despite not making the final, the Belgian delegation are to stay in Athens as planned, and will try their best to enjoy the rest of the contest as passive participants. Delegation head Steve De Coninck-De Boeck said "Of course Kate is disappointed. But she's doing well - and she's mentally a very strong person."

The extent of each of the unlucky thirteen countries' failure will be clear on Saturday evening, when the full placings are published for the semifinal.

It seems a lot of countries are going to pull out of the competition in the near future, half of the contest is made up of balkan countries, you might as well re-name the competition to The Balkan Song Contest

It would be better to rename it the Balkan Friend Contest... -_- although the Baltic countries and Scandanavia are likely to remain.

If the big four pulled out though there probably wouldn't be a contest due to lack of funding though!

well i can see france pulling out within the next few years, germany loves eurovison so its only a slight chance that they will pull out, spain not sure but i can see them staying and maybe within ten years the uk will pull out. only european union countries should be allowed in the eurovison song contest and all balkan countries shouldnt be allowed to vote for other balken countries and the uk should be split up in to four zones

I think there should be regional heats to be honest.

Split the map into 4 zones. Allow 3 top from each zone into final.

Then have 12 in final. Problems of scoring and time resolved.

The UK couldn't be split up unless England, Scotland, Wales and NI started getting their own tv channels and stuff. Would the big four become the big seven? How would MYMU work? And I agree partly with the EU comment, but most countries are either EU members or candidates now anyway, and in the EU we are the United Kingdom so if the EU rule was in, we would be the UK in Eurovision. Eugh that sounds confusing!

Ooh clever idea :funky: that would probably work quite well!

Difficulty would come in which zones and the special places by those that currently pay to be in final.

May need to do a draw for the zones, like doing the european football championship draw.

Indeed that could add to the excitement of it all

I like that idea, even the top 4 would be able to go thru, make it 16

Why's everyone picking on the Balkans countries..? Eurovision has always had an element of 'cronieism' about it, face facts... Anyway, can you honestly see Croatia favouring Serbia/Montenegro or vice versa, be serious, there was a bloody war between Serbs and Croats in Bosnia not so long a go - the two communities despise each other....

Anyway, isn't it supposed to be all 'Televoting' these days...? If Belgium cant handle getting turfed out of the semis, tough sh!t, do a better song next time. You don't see the Scottish footie team moaning about all these "bloody Balkan countries" when they get bounced out of cup competitions - they aint good enough to win, end of story....

Last year Croatia gave 12 to Serbia & Montenegro, 10 to Bosnia-Herzegovina and 8 to FYROM

Serbia & Montetengro gave 12 to Greece, 10 to Croatia, 8 to Albania, 7 to FYROM, 6 to Hungary.

Bosnia-Herzegovina gave 12 Croatia, 10 to Serbia & Montenegro.

In 2004 Croatia gave their 12 to Serbia & Montenegro, Serbia gave their's to FYROM, Bosnia gave their's to Serbia and so on.

So yeah, they do give quite a substantial amount of votes to each other. And it's not picking on them - just facing facts really, sometimes they have good songs, but regardless of that they will still get the votes off each other.

Well, I bow to your obviously superior knowlege, I aint watched the thing in about 15 years. But it doesn't seem to have really done them much good has it? I aint ever heard of any Balkan countries winning the thing, so what difference does it make? It does surprise me though that given the tensions and recent history, these countries would give each other such high votes.....

I reckon a few others will pull out in the near future too. France have said they won't, even though they always do c**p and expect to this year

the Balkan countries gave their votes to their negihbours not just because they are but the artist they are sending are usally famous in the whole Balkans!!!!!!!!!!!!

so stop crying and send some of your internationly popular artist and you gonna win 4 sure !!!!!

I suppose that's a good point, I mean Daz Sampson..? Who the fukk is he?? Trouble is, UK cant persuade the likes of Robbie Williams or James Blunt to do it, cos it's treated like a joke in the UK, so we end up having sh!te like Jemini, James Fox, Javine and this tw@t who seems to think he's Mike Skinner meets Coolio.....

And then Finland sends Lordi......who kick rock ass...... :fingers:

I would say he is more Mike Skinner meets Paul 'Gazza' Gascoigne.

Still I love the Daz Sampson track - it is so bad it is good IMHO.

I mentioned Coolio cos the song almost sounds the same as "Gangstas Paradise", and it's a school-related theme as well.... But yeah, I can see the Gazza thing too to be honest.....

And I still say it's sh!t.... :P

I didn't know all that ooff by heart btw, I had downloaded this scorecard thing with every vote on it from 1956!

Yeah, we should send someone better because let's be honest, the UK has the best music in Europe by an absolute mile  they just wouldn't touch Eurovision with a six foot bargepole. Even someone like Rachel Stevens would be ok really.

I agree with Boyan's point :-) We will vote for Ireland tonight-partly because we are next to them and partly because we are aware of Brian Kennedy (he had a top 5 hit with You raise me up in January)...

If countries are clever enough to send acts who are already famous in othr countries then fair play to them!!! Although this theory obviously didn't work with Kate Ryan, who's famous in a lot of Western Europe

Yeah, I diss all the countries who vote for each other but I'm so hypocritical - we [nearly] always do it for Ireland, so yes every country does it!

The best song usually wins though I reckon, or a good song at least.

OK, for next year let's think of an artist/act who is good at singing/performing live (that rules Rachel Stevens out), who is popular in Europe but could do with raising it's profile particularly in the UK...............

I would nominate.........
