sorry haze, i only rated 'sultans of swing', imho they became rather...... dull really. a.o.r. which really wasnt my scene.

thanks for the link Haze. I love some Dire Straits. :cheer:

Mark Knoffler is an under-rated guitar player. His style is sublime.

I agree Haze, they are a great band.

I love the Brothers In Arms album.

Never did anything for me - part of that mid 80s corporate rock star c**p along with Collins, Sting et al.
I don't mind a bit of DS! Bought my dad the box set of them a few years ago he only seen it for a day then I pinched it! He has got it back now tho.... Romeo & Juliet is my favourite song.

i saw this video in full for the first time on the hits a few weeks ago and seeing as i have been reading simon reynolds - rip it up and start again ppstpunk 1978-1984 book, just what to cast your mind back a few weeks to the Pogues - radio 1 - f***** controvosity. this record obv uses the word f***** too, in the American (non-tasty meat product sense) and having read the part about British acts on MTV in the early 1980 (and knowing a little bit of the anti-disco feeling as well) - this song with the mtv-esque video bits seems to me as another 'negected/misreprsented' satire on america's ideas (in a way similar to that of born in the usa by bruse springsteen) - as it does seem from reading, that American people thought in the 1980s British pop-bands (whoever - they all seem to be all labeled synth-pop types whether like Duran Duran or the style council?!?!?) were all comprized of make-up loving homosexuals and therefore not a good thing!!!

so maybe dire straights were better than some people think - then again they might just be the 1980s Manic Street Preachers (but without a deadbloke/mouthpiece to make them look cool)
