Girls Aloud are desperate to win their first ever Brit Award, say reports.

Cheryl Cole has revealed that the group are keen to win any of the gongs at the February awards ceremony.

She told the Daily Star: "We want to win a Brit in 2008. It’s really as simple as that.

"Best Band, Best Album - it doesn’t matter which, but it would be nice to have one on the mantlepiece because that’s the one award everyone wants."

The girl group have never won a Brit, but were nominated for the Best Pop Act accolade in 2005, losing out to McFly.

A friend of Cole, who attended a Spice Girls reunion gig with the singer, added: "Cheryl was really looking forward to her night out seeing Posh and Co back in action. But she is hoping for good news come the Brits announcement.”

The 2008 Brit Award nominations are announced on January 14.

i realy hope they will one to top of a great year for girls aloud they have done realy well i still cant belive they havent won a brit award i reckon that should do a song with the spice girls now that would be good

They will never get nominated I think.

Anyway, even if nominated, the bunch of the Brit judges would never give it to them

They already deleted the "best pop act" category, so I don't think there'll be miracles this year.

Call the shots should win something.

Why should it?

The BRITS, generally, recognise sales. Call The Shots is no way near the biggest selling single of the year. The album is the same. An as a group, the likes of Kaiser Chiefs, Arctic Monkeys and Sugababes have all beaten them!

I would love for the girls to win something but we all know there's probably more chance of seeing them supporting Lily Allen on tour than winning a Brit.
they deserve a brit award by now but it tends to be c**p artists that win anways so i don't see why it matters that much

The Brits are quite alternative these days so I don't think GA will even get a nomination, let alone a win. :(

They deserve to win Best British Group IMO.

Again. Bands and acts that SELL MORE. It doesn't matter whether they're better. The BRITS are generally all about sales. If it was about quality how come you have to be really succesful to be even nominated.

they should be brit winners by now,but look at kylie it took 14 years before they gave her an award then gave her 2 together

Its not about sales at all, just look at some past winners and that will be proven.

This year the awards arent focusing on the indie acts, more on pop - so a miracle could happen!

But they have all still sold lots of records. When was the last time a winner was someone fairly unknown who hadn't had much chart success?

Cos from the last 10 years all I can find is Beth Orton and Belle & Sebastian.

it's not about sales  if McFly can win one then it certainly isn't about sales

Where's your point? Until recently McFly have always sold reasonably, and since they have sold poorly they've come nowhere near an award... Unless they've won one which was voted for by the public. In which case which ever nominated acts with the most loons in their fanbase will win...

Girls Aloud are at the same point as McFly sales wise and popularity wise, so if the boys can do it - im sure the girls can.

I know what you mean. If 'Tangled Up' was the biggest selling album of the year it would be nominated certainly.

i haven't watched them for years, only tuned in for 2005's when they were nominated. For me The Brits have lost a lot of credibility over the past 5-10 years.
