I think that their 17 consecutive Top 10's run will hold.

As Mikey pointed out in the other thread, The Guinness Book of Hit singles, (if they do another one), will have the St Trinnians track as an official Top 75 hit. It will have a star next to it explaining that it was a Download from a soundtrack and not an official release by the band.

The Guinness Book, in the past, acknowledged The Beatles as having 11 consecutive No. 1's (From Me To You in April 1963 - Yellow Submarine in August 1966.)

In June 1963, "My Bonnie" reached No.48 (which is credited as a duet with Tony Sheridan) and in 1964 "Aint She Sweet" peaked at No.29.

On that basis I'd say that the next release from Girls Aloud should be their 18th consecutive Top 10! :)

Yeah, as St Trinian's isn't an official release, I'd say it doesn't break their record.

That's my thoughts but I' probably get slated by Girls Aloud haters on here!!!

Why turn this into a personal war against Girls Aloud? It's simply a discussion on chart records. I already acknowledged in the other thread the Beatles situation so can't we just let it lie and see what happens if another Guinness Book is released.

It doesn't matter greatly anyway because Madonna (I believe) holds the ACTUAL record for consecutive Top 10 hits. Girls Aloud will only be mentioned if you start watering down the feat to individual TYPES of acts.

Jeeze you fans are really hardcore aren't you?!!?

I suppose I asked for this!

Hi Brutarn, I'm not a knocked out Girls Aloud fan but just wanted to back them up and stand in their corner!

Yeah the record should hold... the St Trinian's theme hasn't had a physical release either has it? And their album tracks have probably charted between 76 and 200 in the past too without getting official releases.

Fair enough, but I don't think there are many people slating them for managing to chart a song without ANY publicity or a video....!

Surely it's a testament to their popularity that they can chart songs in this manner.

And I'm sure each member is pocketing a nice bit of cash from the sales of St Trinians so don't shed too many tears for them, eh? :P

I agree with you Brutarn. I'm not knockin' the Girls! (If only..)

If the track did chart in the Top 10 it wouldn't count.

If that song breaks their run, then a lot of runs are gonna be broken in the next months. There will always be album tracks in the top75 at the time of the release of big acts. Madonna, Mariah Carey, etc will all break their run, just as Leona and the Arctic Monkeys did if we do count the album tracks.
Just for the record, the track St. Trinans is released this year, so it won't be in this year's Guiness Book of Hit Singles if there is one, you will have to wait for another 2 years.

:o 2 yrs! blummin eck this argument is gonna run forever!

personally, i dont think it will count-but i would say that :teresa:

What record is this exactly? Is it just girl group because Westlife, Oasis and Madonna have had more?

Yeah I think it's girl group -_-

Well in that case it's not nearly as impressive as I thought. Yes, getting top 10 is but apart from Sugabaes has any girl group actually released as many singles?!
They've a long way to go until they match Madonna anyway - 35 consecutive ones from 1984 to 1994! :o

They'll probably split before they get to 20  :(

I agree, the way it's spoken about anyone would think it was the record for any singer/band. I did anyway.

There are probably only a few girl bands with 17 singles that have been released here. The Supremes have released more but their record is 2 consecutive singles. The Sugababes have 20 singles that charted in the top 75 and their best run is 7. Bananarama have released more singles but had a total of 3 consecutive hits.

I can't think of any more girl bands that have released enough singles to compete with them. Destiny's Child, Spice Girls and Atomic Kitten haven't even released 17 singles.

I'd say their closest rival is Destiny's Child, who have split but could reform, they have a run of 11 top 10 singles going. But even if they reform they'd have to get another 6 top 10 singles to even match Girls Aloud, which is very unlikely.

My opinion is one that most Girls Aloud will disagree with. I think that having #1 singles is more important than top 10. Would you rather have 17 top 10 hits, all consecutive, and 3 number ones or, to compare, 18 non-consecutive top 10 hits and 6 number ones?

Anyway, I don't know if the record will stop at 17. It doesn't really matter anyway because if this is only a record for a girl band it's unlikely to be broken for at least ten years.

So when should we see another guiness book, 2009? :). Is there a chance we won't see another one? :(.
Leona's album tracks that charted won't count so I don't see why a song from a soundtrack should count towards Girls Aloud run.

I agree completely with the sentiment but not the figures.

By my count, the Sugababes have had 14 top 10 hits. Do you mean 18 top 20 hits?
