I wouldn't count the St. Trinians theme as a single, it hasn't been promoted nor physically released. In the same way I am trying to wipe Christina Aguilera's Oh Mother from my head. :(

I agree completely with the sentiment but not the figures.

By my count, the Sugababes have had 14 top 10 hits. Do you mean 18 top 20 hits?

Oops! I meant 14, I was wasn't and was counting all their singles and still managed to miscount! So yeah. I'd rather have 14 top 10s songs with 6 getting to #1 than 17 top 10 hits and 3 #1 songs. I'm not just trying to be all "Sugababes are better" because I happen to like both of them about the same. My LastFM account has scrobbled 40 Sugababes song plays and 37 Girls Aloud song plays, so the difference isn't that much.

EDIT: Kelly, where did "Oh Mother" chart? I love that song so much. It didn't reach top 200 did it?

Out of curiosity, who holds the record for most consecutive Top 10's, Top 5's and #1's?

I'm guessing Madonna, Westlife & Westlife but I don't know for sure.

From everyhit:

Consecutive top 10:

Madonna holds this record with 34 (from "Like A Virgin" in 1984 to "Secret" in 1994. The run was broken by "Take A Bow" which peaked at no. 16).

Consecutive #1s:

7 - by The Beatles and Westlife.

The Beatles' stretch began with "A Hard Day's Night" in 1964 and lasted to "Yellow Submarine"/"Eleanor Rigby" in 1966. The run was broken when "Penny Lane"/"Strawberry Fields Forever" merely made the number 2 position the following year!

Westlife's stint began with their debut, "Swear it Again" in 1999 and ran through to "My Love" in November 2000 (though one hit was a 'duet' with Mariah Carey). It was broken by "What Makes A Man" which peaked at number 2 the following month.

I just think people are looking for faults in Girls Aloud. I personally don't think they have released a bad song ever, think the worst song they have released is probably Life Got Cold which was their second release.

Can't Speak French instantly became one of my favourite songs on the album at the first play and it may not get Radio 1 play like Call The Shots is but I think it will still go top 5.

What's the record for consetutive top 20's? :).

'No Good Advice' was their second release. Which also happens to be my favourite.

Could've been the Spice Girls had 'Stop' not stalled at #2! :( They'd have had ten then. :o

Fair enough, but I don't think there are many people slating them for managing to chart a song without ANY publicity or a video....!

Surely it's a testament to their popularity that they can chart songs in this manner.

Except it does have a video - which is the main reason people know about it and have downloaded it

Not as impressive now, eh?

But we have to remember that the girls didnt record a brand new video specifically, the footage was taken from their cameo in the film.

Although referring to the discussion on the first page....if you buy into the whole "unofficial releases don't count" argument, the Beatles would have had 11 consecutive.

Also I believe Westlife hold the record for most consecutive Top 5 hits.

There are probably only a few girl bands with 17 singles that have been released here.

And that's exactly what's impressive about them, they have mananged to stay together throughout the years, to keep the success going, and to stay very unite together (no need to replace a member once a year).

That's the most impressive if you ask me, for a so called manufactured band.

Well who does that anyway? Nobody!

Yeah but as it's been said, most girl bands did split before managing to release 5 albums and 18 singles, so yes, that's impressive for them to still be that strong after 5 albums.

^_^ Who can say if they'll get to five studio albums and 21 singles. :kink:

I don't think that quoting the sugababes as a good example of strong band is a very good idea considering they had to replace one member two times, while it's only a 3-member formation.

Was that the Suga's definition of a strong band?, 5 albums and 21 singles? :D.
Well in that case it's not nearly as impressive as I thought. Yes, getting top 10 is but apart from Sugabaes has any girl group actually released as many singles?!

Bananarama have released something like 30 singles
