Canadian singer Nelly Furtado is being accused of having stolen from a song by the late Turkish Alevi folk singer Muhlis Akarsu, the renowned artist killed in an attack in Sivas in 1993, according to a Turkish newspaper on Wednesday.

Nelly Furtado The song titled “Wait for You” from Furtado’s 8 million selling album Loose is inspired by Akarsu’s “Allah Allah Desem Gelsem,” sang to lyrics by the great 16th century Alevi poet Pir Sultan Abdal from Akarsu’s album “Ya Dost Ya Dost,” newspapers claimed on Wednesday.

YouTube clips comparing the two songs were posted on the net.Kalan Müzik, the label that released Akarsu’s album, has pressed charges against Furtado, the Hürriyet daily said.

The daily also claimed that an “American copyrights agency” had informed Kalan Müzik of the theft and assisted the company with the legal process, although it was not clear whether this was a governmental agency or a private company as the alleged name of the company in the story did not show in any Internet web engine searches.

Officials from Kalan Müzik said the part of Akarsu’s song being played on the Turkish instrument bağlama was taken as is and integrated into Furtado’s “Wait for You.”

The discovery of the theft was made by YouTube clips comparing the two songs placed by ordinary users, officials said.

Slightly similar, but i dont think that much tbh :/

They do sound kind of similar, but I doubt Nelly has ever heard his song, so she can't have copied it :manson:

May boost sales though

Again. :(

She should really stop stealing songs, even if it was Timbaland's fault last time. Though a lot of artists get blamed for this these days, I doubt it will actually go through, more of a publicity attempt, even if the artist is dead.

I'm calling BS. The don't really sound alike and Wait For You is a pretty generic sitar riff. It probably sounds similar to a few other songs that use a sitar.

LOL True! the song is gone anyway

Sorry I'm a big fan of Nelly too but I hate it when people can't admit the fact when the artist/producer is in the wrong. The beat and instrumental is nearly exactly the same but Timbaland should be sued really because it's him the one who stole it, I doubt Nelly would have ever heard of it before.

*EDIT* I was referring to 'Do It' and the song that it copied, can't seem to find a youtube link now but it was EXACTLY the same! Anyway, this doesn't sound too much like 'Wait For You' but it is a teeny bit similar lol
