Posted January 13, 200817 yr Saw this last night and it was absolutelly brilliant. :D An excellent story, really funny and clever, and full of top performances, from the always excellent Tom Hanks, as well as Philip Seymour Hoffman and Julia Roberts. It's no wonder the film as well as it's three stars have been nominated for Goldon Globes. I suspect it will be nominated for quite a few Oscars as well tbh. ^_^ Anyone else seen it?
January 13, 200817 yr Anyone else seen it? not yet...waiting for a wed when my dad can come with me on the orange
January 15, 200817 yr I'm usually put off any film which stars Tom Hanks or Julia Roberts tbh (so a film with both in it is more or less like Kryptonite to me... ), but people are saying the story is interesting and well done, so may download a decent screener when it becomes available....
January 29, 200817 yr It's c**p. Like srsly I usually enjoy a good old film about war but it was WORSE THAN THE KINGDOM! I literally fell asleep in the cinema aha. The only good thing about it was that fat dude with glasses who was a spy or something. Bleh.
January 30, 200817 yr It's c**p. Like srsly I usually enjoy a good old film about war but it was WORSE THAN THE KINGDOM! I literally fell asleep in the cinema aha. The only good thing about it was that fat dude with glasses who was a spy or something. Bleh. It wasn't really a "War Film" as such, it was more a film about a war, and the moral implications of getting involved in such conflicts... What I disliked about the film was the fact that, as usual, it painted a "Pax Americana" picture of the world, and it was very Neo Con in its outlook on the whole... The "Damn Russkies" presented as the zero-dimensional villains of the piece, and the film managed to gloss over the fact that the Mujahadeen had a certain Osama Bin Laden in their ranks, who was one of their main leaders.....  The final five minutes almost makes up for it though, Philip Seymour Hoffman's story about the Zen Master "Wait and see", was quite poignant I'll admit, and the use of the Wilson quote at the end "We fukked up the end-game", well, truer words have rarely been spoken by a politician considering what was to follow - Al Qaeda, The Taliban, 9/11.......... But the story itself was well told, even if rather ideologically dubious at times....
