I started this last week, so this is the 2nd week. We salute what Radio Luxembourg, used to do. With a bit of sales/airplay we get a taster, for the following week`s chart.

So this afternoon, I got busy with 4 colleagues (thats Brian, Dave, and Peter. A couple work in record shops, and me and Peter did the rest. We took info from various stores singles charts, 4 in all, including Woolworths and HMV, and 2 smaller outlets. Then we looked at the airplay chart, and 4 download charts. Added it together, and came up, with this.

Starting with an album chart...

01 11 THIS IS THE LIFE - AMY MCDONALD

02 10 SCOUTING FOR GIRLS - SCOUTING FOR GIRLS

03 13 RAISING SAND - ROBERT PLANT AND ALISON KRAUSS

04 03 BEAUTIFUL WORLD - TAKE THAT

05 14 HAND BUILT BY ROBOTS - NEWTON FAULKNER

06 02 IN RAINBOWS - RADIOHEAD

07 NE DO YOU LIKE ROCK MUSIC - BRITISH SEA POWER

08 NE BIG TUNES 2008 - VARIOUS ARTISTS

09 04 LIFE IN CARTOON MOTION - MIKA

10 17 ROBYN - ROBYN

11 08 MINISTRY OF SOUND ANTHEMS - VARIOUS

12 12 BACK TO BLACK - AMY WINEHOUSE

13 06 SPIRIT - LEONA LEWIS

14 09 TRICK TO LIFE - HOOSIERS

15 07 CALL ME IRRESPONSIBLE - BUBLE

16 16 GOOD GIRL GONE BAD - RIHANNA

17 05 NOW 68 - VARIOUS

18 15 SHOCK VALUE - TIMBALAND

19 01 CLUBBERS GUIDE TO 2008 - VARIOUS

20 NE COLOUR IT IN - MACCABEES

With NEIL DIAMOND new just outside the 20, and RINGO STARR a bit further down, that was the averaged info, that we came up with, for albums. It was a surprise that the CLUBBERS GUIDE TO 2008, seemed to be selling well last week, in the shops we visited as a chartopper for Monday, but we found out last night, that it only entered at 14, in the Combined Artists/Compilation chart!

The top 20 singles, that were seemingly doing ok today...

01 02 NOW YOU`RE GONE - BASSHUNTER

02 05 PIECE OF ME - BRITNEY SPEARS

03 21 SUPERSTAR - LUPE FIASCO

04 11 ROCKSTAR - NICKELBACK

05 13 DON`T STOP THE MUSIC - RIHANNA

06 03 CRANK THAT - SOULJA BOY

07 22 HOMECOMING - KANYE WEST

08 01 WHEN YOU BELIEVE - LEON JACKSON

09 07 APOLOGISE - ONE REPUBLIC/TIMBALAND

10 15 ELVIS AIN`T DEAD - SCOUTING FOR GIRLS

11 24 BE MINE - ROBYN

12 06 RULE THE WORLD - TAKE THAT

13 NE CHASING PAVEMENTS - ADELE

14 08 CALL THE SHOTS - GIRLS ALOUD

15 04 BLEEDING LOVE - LEONA LEWIS

16 10 VALERIE - MARK RONSON

17 09 HEARTBROKEN - T2

18 12 NO ONE - ALICIA KEYS

19 14 RELAX - MIKA

20 23 SOME KINDA RUSH - BOOTY LUV

Out of the top 20, from last Monday go HOOSIERS X 2, SUGABABES X 2, and CASCADA (at 21)...the WOMBATS are 22, today...and RADIOHEAD and the COURTEENERS also top 30 (although both on physical sales)...Could the Courteeners, crack the national top 30, on Sunday??? JACK JOHNSON, and JOSS STONE are also new entries.

How will it reflect on the Official Chart, and the mids? How did we do last Monday...well not bad, Monday sales, in the shops we visited still showed LEON, at the top at that point, and LUPE, and KANYE gained more downloads as the week, progressed. Only real mistake, was with the HOOSIERS, and the exaggerated airplay on WORSE CASE SCENARIO, that failed to gain sales, of any sort!!

Here is an old Luxembourg Chart, see how they did with it, in 1989...

This was announced on Monday 16th Jan 1989, suposingly the chart for week ending 28th Jan 89

01 THE LIVING YEARS - MIKE AND THE MACHANICS

02 STOP - ERASURE

03 BUFFALO STANCE - NENEH CHERRY

04 SHE DRIVES ME CRAZY - FYC

05 BABY I LOVE YOUR WAY-FREEBIRD - WILL TO POWER

06 YOU GOT IT - ROY ORBISON

07 ESPECIALLY FOR YOU - KYLIE AND JASON

08 CUDDLY TOY - ROACHFORD

09 SOMETHINGS GOTTEN HOLD OF MY HEART - MARC ALMOND/GENE PITNEY

10 GOOD LIFE - INNER CITY

11 4 LETTER WORD - KIM WILDE

12 LOVE TRAIN - HOLLY JOHNSON

13 ALL SHE WANTS IS - DURAN DURAN

14 BABY DON`T FORGET MY NUMBER - MILLI VANILLI

15 WAITING FOR A STAR TO FALL - BOY MEETS GIRL

16 GET ON THE DANCEFLOOR - ROB BASE/DJ E-Z ROCK

17 LOCO IN ACAPULCO - FOUR TOPS

18 SUDDENLY - ANGRY ANDERSON

19 KEEPING THE DREAM ALIVE - FREIHEIT

20 WAIT - ROBERT HOWERD/KYM MAZELLE

How did they do in 1989, then? Well they got all of the positions wrong!! But 12 out of the top 15, did actually appear somewhere in the official top 15, the following Sunday! In the top 20, Luxembourg missed new entries from, BROTHER BEYOND (BE MY TWIN), TEN CITY (THAT`S THE WAY LOVE IS), WILL DOWNING/MICA PARIS (WHERE IS THE LOVE), and ADEVA (RESPECT)...It has to be said though, THE LIVING YEARS was actually a midweek number one, and they were only a position out, in the end...nearly there with ROACHFORD (who was no. 7, officially, and HOLLY JOHNSON at 12, was no. 10, officially!

Airplay and the combination, of downloads, my dear!! We actually worked out, that if it was already available physically, under a clever made up guess of physical sales, it would already be number 3!! So we come to the conclusion, it will probably be the next new number one!!
