Take That lead Brit nominations

Take That are nominated for four prizes, including best live act

Former boy band Take That could get one award per member after topping the nominations for the 2008 Brit Awards.

Gary Barlow, Howard Donald, Jason Orange and Mark Owen join pop stars Mika and Leona Lewis in leading the shortlist with four nominations each.

Producer and performer Mark Ronson, singer Kate Nash and rock bands Arctic Monkeys and Kaiser Chiefs have three nominations each.

This year's ceremony will be held at Earls Court in London on 20 February.

Leona Lewis won the 2006 series of talent show The X Factor

Take That, who reformed in 2006 and recently completed an acclaimed European tour, line up against Arctic Monkeys, Kaiser Chiefs, indie favourites Editors and pop group Girls Aloud in the best British group category.

They also face Arctic Monkeys and Kaiser Chiefs in the best British live act category, along with Klaxons and Muse.

Comeback album Beautiful World - which was released in December 2006, but is eligible for this year's awards - is also up for best British album, and Shine is up for the singles award.

Breakthrough acts

Mika - who 12 months ago topped the BBC's Sound of 2007 poll to find up-and-coming talent - is shortlisted for best British male artist, best single for Grace Kelly, breakthrough act and best album for Life In Cartoon Motion.

X Factor winner Leona Lewis's debut album is also up for best album, while she is also nominated for best British female artist, breakthrough act, and single for Bleeding Love.

Mika's Life In Cartoon Motion was one of 2007's top-selling albums

Other acts on the shortlist include Mercury Prize nominee Bat For Lashes, also known as singer-songwriter Natasha Khan. She is noted in the best British female and the breakthrough act categories.

Khan and Lewis are pitted against Kate Nash, PJ Harvey and KT Tunstall in the best British female category.

Singer-songwriters Richard Hawley and Jamie T are nominated for best British male, along with Newton Faulkner, Mika and Mark Ronson.

In the international categories, Kylie Minogue, Foo Fighters, Arcade Fire and reunited rockers the Eagles are all up for two awards each.

The nominations were announced at the Roundhouse in Camden, north London on Tuesday evening.

Other prizes announced earlier included a critics' choice award for Adele, the London singer who headed the BBC News website's Sound of 2008 survey earlier this month.

And former Beatle Sir Paul McCartney will pick up an award for his outstanding contribution to music, recognising over 45 years in the spotlight.

They've got nominations in:

Best British Album

Best British Group

Best British Live Act

:D

For once, I'd like them not to win the Best Group category

Please, just one for Girls Aloud :P

Hmm I would like them to win at least one. I would be VERY shocked if Muse didn't when best Live act... Because they are fanatastic. :P And sadly I can't see them winning the Best Group either (That'll go to them Girls Aloud skanks). :heehee: But they have a good chance of winning best album, and it's the least they deserve. :D

I think Arctic Monkeys will win best album, I might be being a little optimistic but I really think they will, and I think they'll win Best Group too.

Take That will win best Live Act, no doubt about that. It's a 2 horse race between them and Muse, all the others don't have a chance.

i reckon they will win best group and maybe best album ^_^
Good stuff! but I think Girls Aloud will win the one for best group  so they really gotta win the best album!
I think that they will win Best Album and possibly Best Group (Although I fear Girls Aloud may snatch it). They won't win Best Live Act that really should go to the Muse.
