Once again the DAILY MIRROR has a lot to answer for. :( :arrr:

From Annie Lennox's website

January 15th 2008

An article has been published in today’s Daily Mirror stating that I’d been “dumped” by Sony BMG. As you know, this is completely untrue. My recording contract with the company has simply expired.

They obviously have been reading my blogs, but have completely misinterpreted and misreported what I’ve written.

I was referring to being totally let down by the South African branch of Sony BMG who completely disappeared, when I came to perform for the 46664 campaign in Johannesburg. In the same blog, I complimented the Norwegian company, who were absolutely great...as were the representatives from Italy and France. I had a meeting with Ged Docherty, the head of UK Sony BMG this afternoon, who was absolutely mortified by the piece. The paper will be publishing a retraction tomorrow.

Sony BMG UK sets the record straight on the company’s relationship with Annie Lennox reported in today's Daily Mirror and other media

Sony BMG today moved to set the record straight on its relationship with Annie Lennox following a ludicrous report originating in the Daily Mirror that the artist had been dropped by her label.

Annie's career with the company has spanned over 25 years, including 15 as a solo artist, and seen her become one of the UK's greatest ever artists, with 80 million album sales and 33 hit singles.

In that time Annie has been honoured with 4 Grammies, 11 BRIT Awards, 5 Ivor Novello Awards, an Oscar and 2 Golden Globes among many other accolades.

Her last album due under the existing contract was released in October 2007.

Ged Doherty, Chairman of Sony BMG Music Entertainment UK, said “We are immensely proud to have worked with Annie over more than 2 decades. She now has a choice as to whether she wants to continue to work with us in the future. We very much hope that she will.”

The quotes attributed to Annie’s dissatisfaction with her label arose out of a trip in December to South Africa and have no relevance to the expiry of her contract.

Sony BMG will continue to work with Annie on her current album as well as on her SING project in support of HIV AIDS sufferers

That's lovely and all but how can they keep her on if she isn't making them any money? size]

What a ridiculous statement... Annie Lennox is hardly LOSING fukkin' Sony any money is she...? She's made countless MILLIONS for her label over the years as a whole, so a bit of loyalty should be expected... An artist's worth should be calculated and judged on their total output (and Annie Lennox's worth is formidable when taken by this standard..), not just "one bad day at the office" ffs....

Still, not that I would expect someone like yourself to understand what I'm talking about, you only seem to judge an artist's worth on how much units they shift.. You'd make a brilliant record company suit you would Jark, thought about applying for a job as an A&R at Sony have you.....? You're just what they need..... -_-

I was under the impression that it had been decided before the album's release that Annie would be moving on from Sony BMG. It was originally meant to be a best of album and then she decided to release SOMD instead. I'm sure that a best of will still be released before the end of the year, but I guess that there won't be any new material on there.

It does seem odd to drop an artist who does still sell a decent amount of albums and has such an extensive history with the company. They don't seem to know how to promote her music these days. Annie does seem to need a big hit single to generate huge album sales. The previous album, "Bare", didn't have any singles released from it in the UK which was a huge mistake and affected it's sales.

As for "SOMD", I thought that "Dark Road" would have done better but "Sing" (the second single released on download only) is definitely a case of the cause and sentiment being much better than the actual song. It's the weakest song on the album but Annie should be commended for at least caring enough to do something.

I'm sure that there'll be plenty of other companies showing interest in signing Annie, she may even decide to release her music independantly. It can be done successfully.

I actually didn't realise the music industry was quite that cut-throat. I mean, you look at people like Sophie Ellis-Bextor and Jamelia who still have record deals after their spectacular disappointments, and they're not even international artists. Obviously their record label/s is/are yet to succumb to such chop and change tactics

Are they on Sony/BMG though....?

SBMG don't give a fukk about any of their artists, unless your name is Leona Lewis. :/

She should sign to a company that gives a toss about it's music & quality, like Universal.

Sophie EB is on a part of Universal (via Polydor/Fascination)

and Jamelia was on an EMI records label - tho EMI might not exist by the end of the week.

btw why is this in the pop section with all the teenbop types - shes about 55 - 60 years old now isnt she!!!

well dark road is never gonna be top ten hit is it - come on - shes got to the age where she is totally irrelvent to pop music - alright for the people who lover her - but to everone else irrellevant - and i suppose no one would buy adele's records in the millions if it was by actually by alison moyet in 08 (or branded by brother beyond...

...well maybe the french
