Its the motorists road, we pay road tax and I am sick and tired of cyclists thinking they own the road and that they can behave how they like on there with no thought for anyone else while at the same time paying nothing and us motorists footing the bill

Should cyclists pay road tax to be on the road same as we motorists do ? or at the very least pay at least half what we do

Quite impractical I'd have thought. Maybe a tax on bikes at retail source. But how would this help anything?

We want to encourage cyclists really else we get more congestion and pollution?

I think they should be taxed yes, not as much as a car, but a reduced rate definately, they use the road, they should pay for the privellage like everybody else.

Should then pedestrians be charged for using the pavement? I mean that actaully costs extra money to have a pavement

The difference is, people that travel on the roads have to pay tax, so everyone that uses the road to travel (by anything other than on foot) should also be taxed.

Whereas no-one is charged for the pavements. ;)

of course not, how could that ever be enforced? and wouldnt it drive cyclists onto the pavements?... totally impractical.

horses though... definitely! bloody nuisances! they should have a certificate of roadworthyness... that is... they need to be of a certain disposition before they are allowed on the road... mad horses and traffic dont mix!

riders are arrogant, holding up paying road users just to indulge in their dubious 'hobby' of horse riding....

Should we then also tax farmers for herding their cattle/sheep in for milking/shearing etc.....I mean they're a nuisance too!

I do think that cyclists should be taxed a nominal fee as they are frequently provided with their own lanes that motor taxes ultimately pay for!! But, moreso, they should be made to pass some sort of legal test (not just a cycling proficiency "test" in primary school!) - and their bike should be tested for legality too as most of them are a danger, use no signals, have no lights at night and weave randomly in and out of traffic - and then complain when a car hits them!!

agree, should also charge them a s*it tax if they foul the road, as the owner never cleans up after them and I don't want all that c**p on my tyres. If dog owners have to clean up why dont horsie people.
