4 Ne-Yo - Closer 2 Up

3 Katy Perry - I Kissed A Girl 1 Up

2 Kid Rock - All Summer Long 1 Down

1 Gabriella Cilmi - Sweet About Me 1 Up

Well, well! We were expecting "I Kissed A Girl" by Katy Perry to top the chart... but "Sweet About Me" by Gabriella Cilmi returns to number 1 instead! It spent a sole week at the top before "All Summer Long" by Kid Rock reigned for three weeks... But now Gabriella claims a second week at number 1! Still, I'm sure it's just a matter of time before we see Katy Perry at her place.

But there is something which I think is much more remarkable about this edition of MTV European Top 20. And again I'm talking about Jason Mraz! I was right last week - "I'm Yours" continues climbing and reaches a new peak - number 6. What is amazing is that it reaches a new peak position in its 18th (EIGHTEENTH!) week in the chart!!!!!!

Is that a record? Almost. "Cotton Eye Joe" by Rednex reached its peak position (number 3) in its 19th week in the chart back in 1995. But who's to say that Jason Mraz can't continue climbing? Here is the wonderful chart run of "I'm Yours" so far:

19-15-14-11-13-14-12-10-10-10-11-16-15-16-15-14-10-6

By the way, the fact that the peak position of "I'm Yours" is no longer number 10 means that we have a new record holder for the most weeks in the chart for a song that has peaked at number 10. And the record holder is actually still in the chart - although at the very bottom. "Better In Time" by Leona Lewis peaked at number 10 a long, long time ago and is now spending its 17th week in the chart.

I think it deserves mentioning that "No Air" by Jordin Sparks and Chris Brown is steadily climbing after it re-entered the chart. Now it's up to number 10. Can it improve on its peak position (number 7)?

The biggest climber this week is "All I Ever Wanted" by Basshunter, going 17-11. It follows the same pattern as "Now You're Gone", which also climbed 6 places (to number 13) in its second week in the chart. However, "Now You're Gone" went out of the chart straight after that. I doubt that "All I Ever Wanted" will have the same fate.

Finally, there is one new entry this week. "Disturbia" by Rihanna debuts at number 19. I have to say that Rihanna has been the Queen of MTV European Top 20 during the past three years. Until now she had 8 hits in the chart, SEVEN (!) of which became number ones ("Pon De Replay", "S.O.S.", "Unfaithful", "Umbrella", "Shut Up And Drive", "Don't Stop The Music" and "Take A Bow")!!!!! And the eighth - "Hate That I Love You" - broke the record for most weeks in the chart for a song that has peaked at number 9 (17 weeks). The chart has NEVER seen such domination in such a short period of time! And I have to say I won't be surprised if "Disturbia" is the song to replace "I Kissed A Girl" at number 1...

I won't be able to post next week's chart, I hope someone else will do it!

Oh, Don`t worry Bobiloko…I got it!

2008 September 13

20 Leona Lewis - Better In Time =>

19 The Pussycat Dolls - When I Grow Up 1 Down

18 Ida Maria – I Like You So Much Better When You`re Naked NEW

17 The Ting Tings - That's Not My Name 1 Down

16 Duffy - Warwick Avenue 3 Down

15 Dizzee Rascal & Calvin Harris - Dance Wiv Me 3 Down

14 Rihanna - Disturbia 5 Up

13 Chris Brown - Forever 4 Up

12 Laurent Wolf - No Stress 2 Up

11 Jordin Sparks & Chris Brown - No Air 1 Down

10 Coldplay - Violet Hill 1 Down

9 Basshunter - All I Ever Wanted 2 Up

8 Shaggy - Feel The Rush =>

7 Jason Mraz - I'm Yours 1 Down

6 Rihanna - Take A Bow 1 Up

5 Gabriella Cilmi - Sweet About Me 4 Down

4 Madonna - Give It 2 Me 1 Up

3 Ne-Yo - Closer 1 Up

2 Kid Rock - All Summer Long =>

1 Katy Perry - I Kissed A Girl 2 Up

Katy Perry finds herself taking gold this week as we had all predicted weeks ago and I don`t think she`ll be giving it up anytime soon. Gabriella Cilmi slides down 4 spaces from the top after a reign of 2 split weeks. She was “blocked” from the top for 3 weeks by Kid Rock which is similar to how Snap`s “Rhythm Is A Dancer” blocked Kris Kross`s “Jump Jump” in 1992. This weeks new comer comes from a Norwegian rock musician, Ida Maria who enters at number 18 with “I Like You So Much Better When You`re Naked”.

Last week, Leona Lewis managed to take the record for the longest stay in the chart as an artist peaking at 10 and she survives yet another week making it 18 weeks in total but this doesn´t spell the end of records for Jason Mraz as he still has the chance to break this kind of record for an artist peaking at 6 and is currently the fourth longest surviving artist after The Rasmus`s incredible 24 weeks, Soul Asylum (22 weeks) and The Connells (21 weeks). It may be in place to mention that even Jordin Sparks is soon looking at a similar record for artists peaking at 7 as she makes a tangential record this week with Santana`s “Maria Maria” and Craig David`s “All The Way”; 15 weeks. Only Blackstreet (16 weeks), Whitney Houston ft Enrique Iglesias (18 weeks) and Big Brovaz (18 weeks) have stayed longer.

Overall, this week’s chart was somewhat unusual and at first sight or glance I was lead to believe that it was the wrong chart. Artists on there way down are moving upwards. But this happens every now and then and makes the chart unpredictable and unique to certain degree. I´m out…

Strange chart this week:a random new entry which has only been at No.18 in the Uk Chart.Glad to see Madonna climbing back one place. She deserves to be No.1-Give It 2 Me is a great pop song, hundred times better then I Kissed A Girl and the worst song in the chart Closer-both placed higher than her.Usher leave the chart this week.Love In This Club spent 17 weeks, won 232 points and was No.1 for a week. That makes a total of 93 weeks for him in this chart.Let's hope for a new update soon and please MTV:we want more new stuff, more dance music and updates every week!

Here is the chart of September 20, 2008:

20 The Verve - Love Is Noise NEW

19 Pussycat Dolls - When I Grow Up Stay =>

18 Nelly, Akon & Ashanti - Body On Me NEW

17 Leona Lewis - Better In Time 3 Up

16 Dizzee Rascal & Calvin Harris - Dance Wiv Me 1 Down

15 Ida Maria - I Like You So Much Better When You're Naked 3 Up

14 Chris Brown - Forever 1 Down

13 Laurent Wolf - No Stress 1 Down

12 Coldplay - Violet Hill 2 Down

11 Rihanna - Disturbia 3 Up

10 Basshunter - All I Ever Wanted 1 Down

9 Shaggy - Feel The Rush 1 Down

8 Jordin Sparks & Chris Brown - No Air 3 Up

7 Rihanna - Take A Bow 1 Down

6 Jason Mraz - I'm Yours 1 Up

5 Ne-Yo - Closer 2 Down

4 Gabriella Cilmi - Sweet About Me 1 Up

3 Madonna - Give It 2 Me 1 Up

2 Kid Rock - All Summer Long Stay =>

1 Katy Perry - I Kissed A Girl Stay =>

I'm really happy about the new entry at number 20. I thought "Love Is Noise" by The Verve was doing well enough around Europe to enter this chart but, furthermore, I love comebacks! The Verve were last seen in MTV European Top 20 TEN years ago! Their biggest hit in the chart was, of course, "Bitter Sweet Symphony", which reached number 7. Then two other singles followed - "The Drugs Don't Work" (peak position - number 17) and "Lucky Man" (peak position - number 15).

Nelly, Akon and Ashanti have all been in European Top 20 before - but with "Body On Me" entering at number 18 they are together for the first time. None of them has been absent from the chart for anywhere as long as The Verve. Ashanti has had to wait the longest of them - "Only U" was her last single in the chart prior to "Body On Me" and that was "only" three years ago.

Ida Maria, who debuted last week with "I Like You So Much Better When You're Naked", climbs 18-15 in spite of my hopes that it would leave the chart... I have the feeling that the person who makes MTV European Top 20 only let this song in because Ida Maria is Norwegian - just like the chart's presenter, Charlotte...

The three longstayers in the chart continue to impress. "No Air" by Jordin Sparks climbs to number 8 in its 16th week in the chart and almost equals its peak position (number 7). Who knows, it might even improve it?

After spending two consecutive weeks at the very bottom of the chart it looked like "Better In Time" by Leona Lewis was finally going out... But no! It climbs back 3 places to number 17 in its 19th (!) week in the chart! How much longer can it survive?

And, of course, how can I not mention "I'm Yours" by Jason Mraz? It climbs back to its peak position - number 6. Right now it's spending its 20th week in the chart!!! Well, I don't think there has been ANY song in the chart's history that has been at its peak position in its 20th week in the chart... I just wish one thing - that "I'm Yours" reaches a new peak next week...

As for the top of the chart, "I Kissed A Girl" by Katy Perry reigns for a second consecutive week. I think that if there is a song currently in European Top 20 that can replaces it at number 1, it's "Disturbia" by Rihanna.

Thanks for this Bobs.I would not be surprised if Jason Mraz becomes one of the longest charts sitters. He needs just 3 more weeks to do this. And WOW for Leona Lewis.Happy for her.But the best in this weeks chart for me it's just to see Madonna climbing back to No.3!And someone please.......put some new stuff in the chart!!!
I think Lady Gaga, September, Madcon, Amy McDonald, Guru Josh Project, Eric Prydz and Metallica should chart. But then this is a fake chart so...

........and also Pink with "So What".By the way the new chart is out and we have a brilliant highest new entry which had to be in the chart long ago.Hope to see it top 5!

There are actually two new entries this week!

Here is the chart of September 27, 2008:

20 Nelly, Akon & Ashanti - Body On Me 2 Down

19 The Script - The Man Who Can't Be Moved NEW

18 The Verve - Love Is Noise 2 Up

17 Dizzee Rascal & Calvin Harris - Dance Wiv Me 1 Down

16 Pussycat Dolls - When I Grow Up 3 Up

15 Chris Brown - Forever 1 Down

14 Laurent Wolf - No Stress 1 Down

13 Coldplay - Viva La Vida NEW

12 Basshunter - All I Ever Wanted 2 Down

11 Coldplay - Violet Hill 1 Up

10 Shaggy - Feel The Rush 1 Down

9 Rihanna - Take A Bow 2 Down

8 Jordin Sparks & Chris Brown - No Air Stay =>

7 Jason Mraz - I'm Yours 1 Down

6 Rihanna - Disturbia 5 Up

5 Ne-Yo - Closer Stay =>

4 Kid Rock - All Summer Long 2 Down

3 Gabriella Cilmi - Sweet About Me 1 Up

2 Madonna - Give It 2 Me 1 Up

1 Katy Perry - I Kissed A Girl Stay =>

It should have entered the chart much earlier... but now "Viva La Vida" by Coldplay finally debuts at number 13. At the same time, their previous single "Violet Hill" actually climbs back one place to number 11. "Violet Hill" reached number 1 in MTV European Top 20 and, taking into consideration that "Viva La Vida" is much more successful around Europe, it should do the same... But we'll see.

The other new entry - at number 19 - is "The Man Who Can't Be Moved" by The Script. It's just starting to appear in some European charts so it's still too early to predict how much success it's going to have.

"Better In Time" by Leona Lewis leaves European Top 20 this week after spending an amazing total of 19 weeks in the chart and breaking the record for most weeks in the chart for a song that has peaked at number 10. Leona Lewis seems to have really longstaying hits - "Bleeding Love" is the joint record holder for most weeks in the chart (along with "Asereje" by Las Ketchup) - 29 weeks!

"I Kissed A Girl" by Katy Perry spends a comfortable third week at the top. However, there is a new contender just below her. I must admit I didn't think "Give It 2 Me" by Madonna would go higher than number 3 but now it climbs to number 2. It will be interesting to see what pattern it's going to follow as the second single from an album by Madonna after a number 1 hit. "Hollywood" stopped at number 2 while "Sorry" did manage to become a chart-topper.

Anyway, I still feel that it's "Disturbia" by Rihanna that is going to replace "I Kissed A Girl" at the top - and it takes another huge step in that direction as it's the biggest climber this week, going 11-6.

Here is the chart of October 4, 2008:

20 Pink - So What NEW

19 Pussycat Dolls - When I Grow Up 3 Down

18 Eric Prydz - Pjanoo NEW

17 Basshunter - All I Ever Wanted 5 Down

16 Nelly, Akon & Ashanti - Body On Me 4 Up

15 The Script - The Man Who Can't Be Moved 4 Up

14 The Verve - Love Is Noise 4 Up

13 Coldplay - Violet Hill 2 Down

12 Shaggy - Feel The Rush 2 Down

11 Rihanna - Take A Bow 2 Down

10 Jordin Sparks & Chris Brown - No Air 2 Down

9 Chris Brown - Forever 6 Up

8 Jason Mraz - I'm Yours 1 Down

7 Ne-Yo - Closer 2 Down

6 Coldplay - Viva La Vida 7 Up

5 Madonna - Give It 2 Me 3 Down

4 Rihanna - Disturbia 2 Up

3 Kid Rock - All Summer Long 1 Up

2 Gabriella Cilmi - Sweet About Me 1 Up

1 Katy Perry - I Kissed A Girl Stay =>

This week there are again two new entries. At the very bottom, at number 20, is "So What" by Pink. So far she has had three chart-toppers in MTV European Top 20 - "Lady Marmalade", "Get The Party Started" and "Stupid Girls". And with "So What" already topping charts across Europe, it looks likely that it will become her fourth number 1 here!

The other new entry debuts at number 18. "Pjanoo" is the third hit for Eric Prydz in the chart. The massively successful "Call On Me" only peaked at number 6 but spent quite some time in European Top 20 - 17 weeks. Then last year "Proper Education" actually reached number 2! However, the most remarkable thing about the song is that it's the first wholly instrumental track in the chart since "Sandstorm" by Darude back in 2000!

Pussycat Dolls don't seem to have much success in this chart with "When I Grow Up". It falls again this week, going 16-19 and number 16 is so far its peak position (for a total of 7 weeks in the chart)... The song will need a big resurgence if it doesn't want to remain the girls' smallest hit by far.

Of course, some songs prove that such resurgences are indeed possible. After going 18-20 in its second week in the chart last week, now "Body On Me" by Nelly, Akon and Ashanti goes back up to number 16.

But much more impressive is the reclimb of "Forever" by Chris Brown. It looked truly on its way out of the chart after quite a long stay... but now it climbs 6 places to number 9 in its 16th week in the chart! Here is its amazing chart run so far:

18-13-9-7-9-7-9-11-12-13-16-17-13-14-15-9

As you can see, the song never gives up! When it starts to fall, there is quickly a reclimb! Can it even improve its peak position (number 7)?

The 4-place climb to number 14 of "Love Is Noise" by The Verve might not seem really notable but thus it (deservedly) becomes the band's second biggest hit after "Bitter Sweet Symphony", which peaked at number 7. It has already outperformed "The Drugs Don't Work" (peak position - number 17) and "Lucky Man" (number 15).

Still, the biggest climber this week is "Viva La Vida" by Coldplay. It entered the chart at number 13 last week and is 7 places up to number 6 now. Well, that looks threatening! I did proclaim numerous times that "Disturbia" by Rihanna was going to be the next number 1... but I'm not so sure now! "Disturbia" only climbs two places to number 4 this week... As a matter of fact, "Viva La Vida" might be placed higher than it as soon as next week!

Since I mentioned the number 1 position, let me say something about the current chart-topper. "I Kissed A Girl" by Katy Perry reigns for a fourth consecutive week and by doing so becomes the third longest stayer at the top this year after "Don't Stop The Music" by Rihanna and "4 Minutes" by Madonna and Justin Timberlake both spent six weeks at number 1.

What about the song that "I Kissed A Girl" replaced at the top? "Sweet About Me" by Gabriella Cilmi fell 1-5... but has since climbed back a place each week and is now in the runner-up position. Can it achieve a third separate run at number 1? It's not very probable but who knows!

If we speak about MTV graphics they have new ones from yesterday. Here are the previous from 1998 to date:

By the way there is a new chart.Just wanted to say congratulations to Jason Mraz' "I'm Yours" for becoming one of the 20 longest chart sitters now with 23  weeks(that's No.16 in the alltime chart)

NUMBER 1 SPOT

I think Katy Perry may be spending her last week at the top in order to collect five weeks and then Rihanna`s "Disturbia" will top the chart for one week and then Coldplay will take over for possibly a stay longer than that of "Violet Hill". Thats my prediction.

I remember the 1998-2000 graphics with the blue bubble the most. It was also the time when I think MTV Europe was at its best imo

I agree with you.Back then there was a lot more diverce music incliding more dane tracks. There wasn't so many reality shows like today.

Bobiloko said:However, the most remarkable thing about the song (Pjanoo by Eric Prydz) is that it's the first wholly instrumental track in the chart since "Sandstorm" by Darude back in 2000!

Since 1991 3 instrumental songs have been at No.1.

In 1996 Robert Miles topped the chart with "Children" for a massive 9 weeks, just like the chart for the whole year! This is still one of my alltime favorite number ones.It was also the first video that i saw on MTV at home[/b]

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VCbO-3hjPok

Another instrumental from the top was the lovely "Seven days and one week" from BBE.3 weeks at the top back in the same year as "Children".This is still one of the most surprising winners in the chart for me.

The last one for now is "Flatbeat" from Mr.Oizo!Eating sausages was popular for 4 weeks in 1999!Funny one[/b]!(

Lol I remember all of those, Children and 7 Days In 1 Week are my favs.

Yeah its a shame MTV ignores dance music nowadays. Even pop doesnt get much support either. They also played lots of hits from Europe at that time, I even remember the Nordic chart.

Who`s your favourite MTV European Top 20 presenter?
