November 7, 200816 yr The chart of November 8, 2008: 20 Ne-Yo - Closer 5 Down 19 Jennifer Hudson – Spotlight NEW 18 T.I. - Whatever You Like 2 Up 17 Iglu & Hartly - In This City 1 Up 16 Jordin Sparks & Chris Brown - No Air 3 Down 15 Lady GaGa - Just Dance 2 Up 14 Madonna - Give It 2 Me 4 Down 13 Gym Class Heroes - Cookie Jar 3 Up 12 Kid Rock - All Summer Long 4 Down 11 Sugababes - Girls 3 Up 10 Kings Of Leon - Sex On Fire 2 Up 9 Eric Prydz - Pjanoo 3 Down 8 Madcon - Beggin' 3 Up 7 Pussycat Dolls - When I Grow Up 2 Up 6 Pink - So What 1 Up 5 Gabriella Cilmi - Sweet About Me => 4 Rihanna - Disturbia 2 Down 3 The Script - The Man Who Can't Be Moved 1 Up 2 Katy Perry - I Kissed A Girl 1 Up 1 Coldplay - Viva La Vida Stay => This week’s chart is no different from the usual as there are no surprises. Coldplay are still number 1 with “Viva La Vida”, now for the third week running. Regarding future number 1`s, I agree with tsetsi81 that Pink will be the next chart topper and it’s almost certain that Britney’s “Womanizer” could top the chart later on. There is only one new entry and it enters almost at the bottom of the chart at number 19. It’s “Spotlight” by Jennifer Hudson. Madcon advances three spaces into the top 10 with “Beggin´”. As known, this song has entered this chart very late but that’s usually typical of songs from the Nordic countries. Most of them are only released in other European countries after they`ve become extremely successful in this region. “Beggin`” was released this time last year and topped the Norwegian chart for several weeks and only after this magnificent success displayed a good market for the song elsewhere was it released in other parts of Europe. Some other past examples of this include Bomfunk Mcs “Freestyler” from 1999 and charted in 2000, The Cardigans “Lovefool” from 1996 charting in 1997, The Rasmus “In The Shadows” from early 2003 but charting late 2003, Eagle Eye Cherry “Save Tonight” from 1997 yet charting 1998 etc. It’s been a long while since we had re-entries in our chart. The last one we had entered 12 weeks ago and is actually still in the chart today; “No Air” by Jordin Sparks and Chris Brown. When a song re-enters the chart it usually performs better or worse than the first time in such a way that one can easily differentiate between the performances. These must obviously be significant performances. So without considering examples such as that of Justice with “D.A.N.C.E.” from last year, the song “No Air” in particular has some kind of symmetry between the two times. The first time, “No Air” charted for 11 weeks and peaked at number 7. It collected 105 frequency points. The second time it charts for 12 weeks and peaks at number 7 again and has accumulated 118 points so far given that it’s on its way out. The notion of longevity has been well fulfilled this year and this shows clearly on Markus Tolksdorf`s chart of the year 2008. With the help of artists spending such a long time in the chart, the entire top 20 consists of songs with more than 200 points and two more songs will surely collect these points; Coldplay and Rihanna. That’s at least 22 songs with more than 200 points and this is the first time such a distribution of points happens. There is too much talk about songs that are doing well in Europe and songs doing well in specific countries. Just out of curiosity, were exactly can you find these charts? November 11, 200816 yr Author jamse, there is a great chart collection at: http://www.lanet.lv/misc/charts/ One of the charts you'll find there is: http://swisscharts.com/ This is the site for the Swiss singles chart but there are some more sites with a similar design for other European singles charts. The great thing about all of them is that when you click at a single to see its chart run in (for example) the Swiss chart, it lists also the peak position of the single and how many weeks it spent in all the other charts (I mean - those which have a dedicated site with the aforementioned design).
November 13, 200816 yr Xylem, thanks!!! If I'm not lazy, I'll pick up peak positions and chartruns by some artists, beginning from Sugababes obviously. ))

November 18, 200816 yr Author Here is the chart of November 15, 2008: 20 Kanye West - Love Lockdown NEW 19 Jordin Sparks & Chris Brown - No Air 3 Down 18 T.I. - Whatever You Like Stay => 17 Jennifer Hudson - Spotlight 2 Up 16 Iglu & Hartly - In This City 1 Up 15 Madonna - Give It 2 Me 1 Down 14 Lady GaGa - Just Dance 1 Up 13 Kid Rock - All Summer Long 1 Down 12 Gym Class Heroes - Cookie Jar 1 Up 11 Kings Of Leon - Sex On Fire 1 Down 10 Eric Prydz - Pjanoo 1 Down 9 Gabriella Cilmi - Sweet About Me 4 Down 8 Sugababes - Girls 3 Up 7 Pink - So What 1 Down 6 Rihanna - Disturbia 2 Down 5 Madcon - Beggin' 3 Up 4 Pussycat Dolls - When I Grow Up 3 Up 3 Katy Perry - I Kissed A Girl 1 Down 2 The Script - The Man Who Can't Be Moved 1 Up 1 Coldplay - Viva La Vida Stay => Only one new entry again. Earlier this year Kanye West scored his first number 1 in the chart by appearing on Estelle's "American Boy". Now he debuts at number 20 with "Love Lockdown" - his first single where he sings during the entire song. Just above him is "No Air" by Jordin Sparks and Chris Brown. Its record gets more and more impressive - 24 weeks in the chart for a song that has peaked at number 7! The movements in this week's chart are quite small, yet one of them is really surprising as "So What" by Pink falls 6-7. I'm sure number 6 won't remain its peak position but this fall is absolutely illogical... Well, at least there is some surprise in this edition of MTV European Top 20! "Beggin'" by Madcon and "When I Grow Up" by Pussycat Dolls make good 3-place climbs to the Top 5. That's especially impressive for the latter as it spent its first 9 weeks in the chart wandering between positions 20-16... yet it reaches number 4 in its 13th week in the chart! By doing so, "When I Grow Up" becomes the girls' third highest peaking song after "Stickwitu" and "Beep", which are joint first with a peak of number 2. The current runner-up is "The Man Who Can't Be Moved" by The Script. I would never have guessed it would go that high... but then again there have been some shocking number 2's - "Monsoon" by Tokio Hotel, "Upside Down" by Jack Johnson, "She Wants To Move" by N*E*R*D*, etc... And the number 1 is... "Viva La Vida" by Coldplay, for a 4th consecutive week. Thus it equals the achievement of "Speed Of Sound". However, I think it's very likely that it will become the band's longest stayer at the top next week...
November 18, 200816 yr Now he debuts at number 20 with "Love Lockdown" - his first single where he sings during the entire song. The first single where Kanye sings alone is "Stronger" Edited November 18, 200816 yr by Jamse
November 18, 200816 yr Author Haha, I see that what I wrote is somewhat ambiguous... I meant that this is his first single where he SINGS - and doesn't rap - during the entire song!
November 21, 200816 yr November 22, 2008 20 Jordin Sparks & Chris Brown - No Air 1 Down 19 T.I. & Rihanna - Live Your Life NEW 18 Jennifer Hudson - Spotlight 1 Down 17 The Killers - Human NEW 16 Madonna - Give It 2 Me 1 Down 15 Kanye West - Love Lockdown 5 Up 14 Britney Spears - Womanizer NEW 13 Kid Rock - All Summer Long Stay => 12 Guru Josh Project - Infinity 2008 NEW 11 Lady GaGa - Just Dance 3 Up 10 Gabriella Cilmi - Sweet About Me 1 Down 9 Sugababes - Girls 1 Down 8 Kings Of Leon - Sex On Fire 3 Up 7 Madcon - Beggin' 2 Down 6 Pussycat Dolls - When I Grow Up 2 Down 5 Rihanna - Disturbia 1 Up 4 Katy Perry - I Kissed A Girl 1 Down 3 The Script - The Man Who Can't Be Moved 1 Down 2 Coldplay - Viva La Vida 1 Down 1 Pink - So What 6 Up An exciting and interesting chart for me is one which contains several new entries, some surprising moves and a new number 1 and this weeks chart is a good example. Pink abruptly becomes the queen of our chart at least considering her 1-spot slip last week. However, Pink taking gold wasn`t a complete surprise considering her success in the charts across Europe but also the fact that she usually has strong comebacks for each album. Her longest stay at the top is 4 weeks with "Get The Party Started" (2001). Coldplay settle for number 2 and we note a tangential record for "Viva La Vida" and "Speed Of Sound" (2005), also 4 weeks. This band has 1 hit less than Pink on this chart altogether. Pink`s throne may be threatened by one of the 4 new entries, to be more specific, Britney Spears. If Britney Spears tops this countdown she will have 11 hits, only 1 less than Madonna who has had the most number 1`s. She has topped this countdown 12 times, or at least 12 times considering that she must have topped the chart before 1991. If we see her latest song in the next edition of Euro Top 20 then she will have had her longest stay in it; a stay of 19 weeks. I spoke about 4 new titles on the countdown, the highest coming from the Guru Josh Project`s "Infinity 2008" at number 12. This could be Josh`s second time on the chart considering his success with the same song in 1990. Britney`s "Womanizer" goes in at number 14 and at number 17 we have The Killers entering with "Human". They peaked at number 8 with "When You Were Young" in 2006 so the bar isn`t set that high for them unlike Britney´s 7-week chart topper "Baby One More Time" (1999). T.I. replaces himself at number 19 together with Rihanna in "Live Your Life". There is also a lot of pressure on Rihanna as we watch to see if she can make a 9th hit with this 10th single. All the four songs that left the chart had a rather short visit. Edited December 3, 200816 yr by Jamse
