Guess who's back? Janet Jackson! I have to say that I had begun to wonder whether we would ever see her again in the chart... But now she enters at number 20 with "Feedback". She was last seen in European Top 20 with "Son Of A Gun" in the chart of February 23, 2002 - exactly six years ago!!! However, this year we should also see another comeback - that of her brother Michael. I know it's too early but I'm already thinking whether he could debut straight at number 1...

There are two re-entries this week. "Rockstar" by Nickelback entered the chart at number 17 in the very first edition of the year and immediately went out... which was quite undeserved, considering the song's success around Europe. But I was almost sure that it would re-enter the chart someday... and it does it now, seven weeks later.

The other re-entry, however, is much more interesting. "Valerie" by Mark Ronson and Amy Winehouse had a short stay in European Top 20 at the end of last year - it spent three weeks in the chart, peaking at number 11. Now it re-enters TWELVE weeks later! That's not the longest time before a song has re-entered the chart - "Basket Case" by Green Day re-entered the chart fifteen weeks after leaving it; not to mention the special case with Wet Wet Wet's "Goodnight Girl", which appeared in the chart in early 1992 and then again in late 1994... But still, the achievement of "Valerie" is impressive! And deserved, if you judge by the fact that the song spends a sixth week at number 1 in The Netherlands!

"I'll Be Waiting" by Lenny Kravitz climbs to number 5 and thus becomes his third highest-peaking single after "Are You Gonna Go My Way", which reached number 2 and "Fly Away" - number 3.

But the most remarkable performance is that of "Don't Stop The Music" by Rihanna... which has silently broken a record! The fact that it spends a sixth week at number 1, thus equalling the number of weeks "Umbrella" spent at the top is nice but what's important is that "Don't Stop The Music" is at number 1 in its 18th week in the chart!

The thing is, this is a record! NO song has still been at the top this late in its chart run!!! Two songs have been at number 1 in their 17th week in the chart - "Can't Get You Out Of My Head" by Kylie Minogue and "Whenever, Wherever" by Shakira... but now "Don't Stop The Music" does better than these MASSIVE hits! Who would have guessed that when the song left the chart after only three weeks in, having peaked at number 12?...

In my opinion 3 songs from the current chart have really big chance to set very long chart runs.As Bobiloko mentioned Rihanna's "Don't Stop The Music" now with 18 weeks, also Timbaland & OneRepublic - Apologize(15) and Alicia Keys - No One(17).To place a song amongst the 20 longest running songs they have to spent 22 or more weeks in the chart.Rihanna is closer to that and considering she's on top i'm sure this will happen.Leona Lewis - Bleeding Love(12) is a bit far for now , but her song is yet to be released in some countries.

For those of you who are anxious to know who is number 1 on the European Top 20, and when the mtv guys refuse to update the charts on the mtv websites, it is possible to browse through MTV Denmarks playlist tuesday between 11 and 12 (swedish time) to get a first look at the Top 10.

As we can see Kylie Minogue has entered the new chart with 2 songs at once. And this has never happenned before , so here is a short statistic about her songs in European Top 20 so far.She has spent a total amount of 139 weeks in the chart with 14 different songs (including 2 duets with Nick Cave and Robbie Williams). These 139 weeks make Kylie the 14th most successfull artist in the chart history for now..Her most successful song is "Can't Get You Out Of My Head" with 11 weeks at No.1 and her least successfull song is "Giving You Up" which only appeared at No.20 for a single week. Here are all the songs arranged by their peak position.

1.Can't Get You Out Of My Head (11)

1.I Believe In You (3)

3.In Your Eyes

4.Love At First Sight

5.2 Hearts

WOW!!!!!! This time I'm not exaggerating at all when I say that chart history is written this week. For the first time EVER there are two new entries by one and the same artist! And neither of them is a collaboration - both are solo singles of the one and only... Kylie Minogue!

You have to understand that this is something unique for MTV European Top 20. For more than 17 years it has always been like this: a single by an artist is followed up by another single by the artist. Sometimes there may be an overlap (the follow-up spending its first weeks in the chart while the previous single is spending its last weeks in)... but there has always been consecutivity and not simultaneity.

This began to change at the end of 2007 when there were two instances of an artist having two simultaneous songs in the chart - Nicole Scherzinger with "Whatever U Like" and "Baby Love" and Rihanna with "Don't Stop The Music" and "Hate That I Love You". Neither of them was a case of a single and its follow-up - they were just simultaneous hits.

However, I didn't think the day would come when two singles by an artist would enter the chart in ONE AND THE SAME WEEK! But now Kylie does it with "Wow" and "In My Arms". And why not? After all, both have been released simultaneously in Europe - just in different countries.

With Kylie's unbelievable achievement, it's easy to overlook the third new entry of the week, in spite of its impressive Top 10 debut. Timbaland scores a hit with the fourth single from his album - "Scream", with the participation of Keri Hilson and Nicole Scherzinger. There was a certain song with the same title which made an even more impressive debut in 1995, entering European Top 20 straight at number 2... Of course, I'm talking about the Jackson duet! And with Janet currently in the chart with "Feedback", everything is ready for Michael's comeback!

And while Timbaland has a new song in the chart, it's his previous single that really deserves a mention. What "Apologize" is doing is something really amazing. Here is its chart run so far:

5-2-1-4-3-2-1-1-2-2-5-2-1-2-3-3

The song has spent 16 weeks in the chart, all of them in the Top 5!!! The closest chart performances are those of "Shut Up" by Black Eyed Peas and "What Goes Around... Comes Around" by Justin Timberlake, which spent in the Top 5 their first 13 and 12 weeks in the chart, respectively. Even if "Apologize" leaves the Top 5 next week, I think it will be extremely difficult for any song to top its achievement!

In this context, "Piece Of Me" by Britney Spears has spent all of its seven weeks in the chart in the Top 5. However, although it debuted straight at number 4 and climbed to number 3 the following week, it has so far failed to go any further. In fact, it's now spending a fifth consecutive week at number 4!

And about the new number 1, I can only say: FINALLY! I have waited for a long time to see "Bleeding Love" by Leona Lewis reach the top and at last the song does it. Let's look at its chart run:

19-16-14-10-8-9-3-2-3-3-3-2-1

When earlier this year "Don't Stop The Music" by Rihanna reached number 1 in its 12th week in the chart, I noted that this was the second longest journey to the top (the clear record being held by "Self Esteem" by Offspring, which first became a number 1 in its 16th week in the chart). Well, now Leona overtakes Rihanna's second position as "Bleeding Love" reaches the top in its 13th week in the chart! I do wonder whether Offspring's record will ever be broken...

I`ve just got around to reading all the posts analysing our weekly chart and I´ve really been intrigued by bobiloko´s work especially the accuracy, I thought I´d do one myself but I´m not counting on it to be as interesting.

So, what`s new and interesting in this weeks chart? Maybe not the four new entries themselves but perhaps the fact that three of them are actually debuts...Duffy, Flo Rida and Lupe Fiasco. This doesn`t happen so often, infact it last happened in September last year when Plain White T`s, Yves Larock and Hard-Fi debuted on the same chart if we overlook the chart in october where Will.I.Am debuts considering his membership in The Black Eyed Peas. There is a rather noticable trend in the bottom of the latest few charts where an artist enters at number 20 and rises to 19 and then just drops out. This has been true for Paramore`s "Misery Business" and Janet Jackson`s "Feedback" and if Kylie Minogue´s "Wow" drops out next week, we`ve got ourselves a pattern...

I`ve just got to comment on couple of songs that I think have overstayed in the chart and haven`t really peaked high enough...Fergie`s "Clumsy" is with us for 16 weeks having peaked at 5 and evenmore Linkin Park`s "Shadow of the day" has survived 17 weeks having its peak at 8...and if LP stay another two weeks they´ll have the record for the longest time on the chart yet peaking at number 8. The record so far is Ten Sharp`s "You" in 1992 with 18 weeks. But this may not be as interesting as the fact that already next week they can celebrate their longest stay in the chart with their lowest peaking song!

Overall the chart doesn´t have many suprises and the movement of the songs has been kept to a minimum. The only artists that have advanced significantly is Mark Ronson`s "Valerie", Kylie`s "In My Arms" and Timbaland`s "Scream". Mark Ronson improves his highest peak on the chart from 11 to 10. Kylie is moving in the right direction although if she´ll peak higher than "2 Hearts" (which peaked at 5) is still uncertain but Timbaland is potential for a third number 1 with "Scream". Leona Lewis reigns our chart for a second week while Rihanna stays at 2 with "Don`t Stop The Music". For those of you who check Markus Tolkdorfs frequency chart will be aware of that Rihanna had 355 points for "S.O.S." in 2006...only one point more than the current ranking for "Don`t Stop The Music" with 354 points!. On the same chart Timbaland`s "Apologize" has accumulated 340 points in the shortest amount of time - 17 weeks!...that is to say that other artists with more points have spent more than 20 weeks on the chart except for Robert Miles "Children" in 1996 with 19 weeks.

Lastly I`d like to mention the two artists that have abruptly left the chart...maybe not so bad in Jennifer Lopez case for "Hold It Don`t Drop It" droping out at 11 but more for Gwen Stefani`s "Early Winter" disappearing from number 7...but that has happended 8 weeks ago with Kylie Minogue`s "2 Hearts". We enjoyed both songs for 7 weeks.

The most interesting question for me now is : is it possible someone between "Don`t Stop The Music" with 354 points or "Apologize" with 340 points to challenge the top 3 most succesful songs according to points? (497:Las Ketchup-The Ketchup Song Aserejé ,435:Coolio-Gangsta's Paradise and 435:Shakira-Whenever, Wherever). It seems possible to me.If both songs stay in the chart 7 or 8 more weeks it could happen!Rihanna has a chance to made chart history if she stays for only 9 weeks to match the 29 weeks record for most succesful song according to weeks.(29:Las Ketchup-The Ketchup Song (Aserejé),28:Nelly Furtado-Say It Right and 26:Rednex-Cotton Eye Joe)

Jamse, you have done an amazing job! Your commentary is extremely interesting! I guess I'd add just a couple of things:

"Clumsy" by Fergie actually becomes her longest staying single in European as it spends its 16th week in the chart while both "London Bridge" and "Big Girls Don't Cry" were in for 15 weeks.

And with "Scream" and "Apologize" Timbaland has two songs in the Top 5! However, two artists have even had two songs simultaneously in the Top 3 - Bryan Adams with "Please Forgive Me" and "All For Love" (with Rod Stewart and Sting) and Dido with "Stan" (with Eminem) and "Here With Me"...

I think it's not impossible for "Don't Stop The Music" and "Apologize" to accumulate more points than "Gangsta's Paradise" and "Whenever, Wherever"... but I'm not sure anyone would ever have more points than "Asereje"! My hope was that "I Do It For You" by Bryan Adams could have accumulated around 500 points but our recent data suggests very strongly that this isn't true...

So,i decide to try and make a comment about the chart for the 2 editions last published.I'm not sure if it will be good,so i'll leave to Bobiloko to comment the next ones.

This we have 2 new entries:Basshunter finally appear here with "Now You're Gone" after being a massive hit everywhere with both versions of the song.I can say the same to Kelly Rowland-finally.Her "Work" with Freemasons get some profits by showing Kelly's great voice and personality.I've always liked her more then her bandmate Beyonce.Like Jamse predicted we have a pattern with Kylie Minogue's "Wow" relegation after a chart run 20-19-out.One Republic are on their way up very quickly after entering a week ago.Is it possible to see them at the top?No change at the top-"Bleeding Love" is still not released in some European countries. That's why i think she'll stay Top 5 for at least 5 more weeks."Apologise" and "Don't Stop The Music" are already in the alltime top 20 and they are gonna do some chart records!2 of last weeks new stuff-Duffy and Lupe Fiasco are doing pretty well by climbing 3 and 6 places respectivly.I'm still wondering what Snoop Dogg is doing here?
