Ok, guys...I'm also new on this forum. I think I could leave Maroon 5 stuff and stay a while here :D :D

I like music from the 70's a lot, so, I would like to know which artists from that "golden decade" you like.

My favorites are:

The Carpenters

ABBA

The Bee Gees

Eagles

America

Chicago

John Denver

Kc and the Sunshine band

Tina Charles

Donna Summer

Andy Gibb

and the list goes on...So which ones are ur favorites?

the carpenters when at their best were stunning! 'close to you' was an excellant lovesong, but they went far too twee for me... 'top of the world' for eg was simply :puke2:
abba were pretty classy, slade too produced 'good pop', but it was the punk revolution that imho gave us the best tracks/artists from the 70's (the wonderful kate bush being the exception). jam, buzzcocks, pil...

guyaquill?... welcome to buzzjack retro... equador seems such a romantic place compared to grey old england! lol, south america has always fascinated me, got any local pics?...

Roxy Music

Sparks

David Bowie

Simon and Garfunkel

ABBA

Buzzcocks

Lene Lovich

Blondie

Donna Summer / Giorgio Moroder

The Clash

Sex Pistols

Joy Division

Pink Floyd - Yeah, I know they started out in the 60s, but their music changed so much when Syd Barrett left (planet earth... ), that they could almost be considered a totally different band during the 70s...

David Bowie

Black Sabbath - another "technically 60s" band, but pretty much all the classic, big tunes of theirs that I love are from the 70s

Siouxsie and the Banshees - first album of theirs was '78, so they work for me as a 70s band

The Damned

The Cure - first album '79, so as with Siouxsie....

The Buzzcocks

Kraftwerk

Throbbing Gristle

Can - another "formed in the 60s" band, but my faves of theirs is the 70s stuff...

Lou Reed

Iggy Pop/Iggy and the Stooges

New York Dolls

Blondie

The Runaways

Heart - NOT an 80s band btw, they started out in the mid-70s... And I would argue that their more folksy-rock 70s material in terms of quality was vastly superior to much of their "MTV Hair Rock" stuff... DEFINITELY highly influential though, the likes of Amy Lee and Cristina Scabbia certainly owe the Wilson sisters a big debt....

Patti Smith

Television

Led Zeppelin (new entry.... )

Pretty much what Grim said...and I'll throw in Giorgio Moroder for the timeless 'I Feel Love'.

Edited by richie

Grimley's list says it all but I would add T. Rex, Zeppelin and Sabbath.

I actually put Sabbath there as well mate....

Problem with Led Zep is they did a lot of seriously good stuff in the late-60s as well, so I'm not really sure where to position them...

Actually, come to think of it, maybe I should just add Zep to my list as well, as it was the 70s when they officially became the "biggest band on earth"....

Led Zep

Black Sabbath

Cream

Some Motown

Slade

David Bowie

Lindisfarne

Cher

Meat Loaf

Diana Ross

Queen

The Who

Elton John

No order, just as they popped into my mind.....and I've probably missed some

Cream

Erm, there's no original material from Cream Post-69 mate (sure, a couple of live albums, but they dont really count..), so you cant really consider them as a '70s band.. They've been classified as being Psychadelic/Acid Rock, which was more a late-60s phenomenon.. Pink Floyd transcended their involvement in this movement and radically altered their style (mainly due to the departure of original frontman Syd Barrett)...

Jean Michel Jarre - THE BEST (EVER)!!

Vangelis

Mike Oldfield

Tangerine Dream

Isao Tomita

ABBA

Pink Floyd

Queen

Blondie

Kraftwerk

Joy Division

The Clash

Roxy Music

Kate Bush

Siouxsie & the Banshees

Cabaret Voltaire

Gary Numan

were you born there or did you move there?

I love a lot of music from late 60's/70's/80's, but since i wasnt around for most of that time, i dont really know much of when what came out  so don't shout at me if I get some of this wrong, I don't know! :P

A big time fav song of mine is Downtown by Petula Clark, but that was mid-60's I think, I'm also a big fan of Janis Joplin, but since she died in 1970 I guess we wont be classing her as a 70's act

Would Rod Stewart count as 70's? hmmm, he did start out in the 60's I think. I'm a big fan of Rod, I grew up listening to his music and I went to see him last year, almost met him :kink: I keep wanting to post my little review and photos on the messageboards but I've got no idea which forum to post them on, when I posted Bon Jovi photos I think they were moved about 3 times cuz no one could make their mind up where they should go, I was happy wherever they went so long as people could see them

I'm a big big fan of Aerosmith, my second fave band ever! My first fave being Pretty Boys of course  I've like Aerosmith for as long as I can remember, althought I've never seen them live, I hope the new album will mean they're touring again soon. Also got a slightly hugely fabulous crush on Steven Tyler :kink:

hmmmm....other favourites.....

Ozzy Osbourne (he left Sabbath in late 70's so he just about makes it on this  )

Black Sabbath

Queen

Led Zeppelin

Queen

Sex Pistols

AC/DC

The Clash

Van Halen

The Who

I can't think of anymore atm :)
