Posted January 26, 200817 yr Another week flys passed! Before we start, I want to say thanks to Angie, for posting it all last week, as I was elsewhere. I popped into the library, sent the email and hoped she would look in her inbox, and lucky enough she did! Thanks Angie! So this week the top albums, top tracks/singles, top sellers from this week 30 years ago, the top classical albums (different I thought) and much more. With more thanks to Dave Taylor (davericktaylor@yahoo.co.uk) as usual. The top selling albums... w/k ending 01/02 15 ULTIMATE HITS - GARTH BROOKES (new) 14 BACK TO BLACK - AMY WINEHOUSE 13 GOOD GIRL GONE BAD - RIHANNA 12 ALL THE RIGHT REASONS - NICKELBACK (RE-ENTRY) 11 MINISTRY OF SOUND ANTHEMS 91 - 08 - VARIOUS ARTISTS 10 LIFE IN CARTOON MOTION - MIKA 09 BIG TUNES 2008 - VARIOUS ARTISTS 08 TRICK TO LIFE - HOOSIERS 07 IN RAINBOWS - RADIOHEAD 06 BEAUTIFUL WORLD - TAKE THAT 05 COOL - LUPE FIASCO (NEW) 04 HAND BUILT BY ROBOTS - NEWTON FAULKNER 03 RAISING SAND - PLANT/KRAUSS 02 THIS IS THE LIFE - AMY MCDONALD 01 SCOUTING FOR GIRLS - SCOUTING FOR GIRLS Still a lot of sales going on, which actually makes LUPE FIASCO lose out on a number one. Does anyone remember 1977`s album chart though?... w/k ending 28/01/77 01 01 RED RIVER VALLEY - SLIM WHITMAN 02 04 DAVID SOUL - DAVID SOUL 03 02 ARRIVAL - ABBA 04 07 SONGS IN THE KEY OF LIFE - STEVIE WONDER 05 06 HOTEL CALIFORNIA - EAGLES 06 05 GREATEST HITS - ABBA 07 03 A DAY AT THE RACES - QUEEN 08 09 WIND AND WUTHERING - GENESIS 09 10 WINGS OVER AMERICA - PAUL MCCARTNEY/WINGS 10 23 EVITA - SOUNDTRACK 11 08 SHOWADDYWADDY - SHOWADDYWADDY 12 11 A NEW WORLD RECORD - ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA 13 NE LOW - DAVID BOWIE 14 14 GREATEST HITS - FRANKI VALLI AND THE FOUR SEASONS 15 12 20 GOLDEN GREATS - GLEN CAMPBELL I want to dedicate that 77 album chart to Zeus (also known as Colin) who has been unwell recently. Get well soon old chum. He`s a big ABBA fan, and in 77, Sweden`s biggest export with 2 albums sitting in the top ten. QUEEN nicking their title from a famous Marx Brothers film, of the same name, with hilarity all over the film set! This Queen album containing the hit number 2 single, SOMEBODY TO LOVE. Also recorded as part of the e.p. that George michael did with the group, some years later, after FREDDIE MERCURY`s passing. STEVIE WONDER`s Album containing the song ISN`T SHE LOVELY. Stevie refused to cut the song, for a prospective single release. So, one DAVID PARTON (an english producer/singer) cut a single version of his own, and sounded similar to Stevie, himself! ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER`s set doing great with the EVITA productions, the first time around....Lots of country music with SLIM WHITMAN hedding the list, and GLEN CAMPBELL at the bottom. The ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA album contained the hit single LIVIN`THING. Just outside the top 15, slipped DISCO ROCKET (a K-TEL album) that was total disco, LEO SAYER finally cracked the top 20, with ENDLESS FLIGHT, that sporned 4 top 30 singles. That was the albums. Here`s 1977`s singles chart... w/k ending 28/01/77 01 01 DON`T GIVE UP ON US - DAVID SOUL 02 02 DON`T CRY FOR ME ARGENTINA - JULIE COVINGTON 03 03 SIDESHOW - BARRY BIGGS 04 13 YOU`RE MORE THAN A NUMBER IN MY LITTLE RED BOOK - THE DRIFTERS 05 15 ISN`T SHE LOVELY - DAVID PARTON 06 04 I WISH - STEVIE WONDER 07 05 THINGS WE DO FOR LOVE - 10CC 08 08 WILD SIDE OF LIFE - STATUS QUO 09 16 DADDY COOL - BONEY M 10 09 CAR WASH - ROSE ROYCE 11 07 DR LOVE - TINA CHARLES 12 14 LIVING NEXT DOOR TO ALICE - SMOKIE 13 18 SUSPICION - ELVIS PRESLEY 14 06 MONEY MONEY MONEY - ABBA 15 10 UNDER THE MOON OF LOVE - SHOWADDYWADDY 16 21 DON`T BELIEVE A WORD - THIN LIZZY 17 NE WHEN I NEED YOU - LEO SAYER 18 12 PORTSMOUTH - MIKE OLDFIELD 19 17 GRANDMA`S PARTY - PAUL NICHOLAS 20 22 NEW KID IN TOWN - EAGLES 21 24 EVERY MAN MUST HAVE A DREAM - LIVERPOOL EXPRESS 22 35 DON`T LEAVE ME THIS WAY - HAROLD MELVIN AND THE BLUENOTES 23 20 FAIRYTALE - DANA 24 27 SMILE - PUSSYCAT 25 11 WHEN A CHILD IS BORN - JOHNNY MATHIS 26 19 HAITIAN DIVORCE - STEELYDAN 27 25 LOST WITHOUT YOUR LOVE - BREAD 28 32 FLIP - JESSE GREEN 29 40 IT TAKES ALL NIGHT LONG - GARY GLITTER 30 48 JACK IN THE BOX - THE MOMENTS There is actually a small connection, in the 77 singles top 30, with this week`s chart. We will get to that later! We already told you about DAVID PARTON...BARRY BIGGS had many a release as a Reggae singer, and so scored his only top 20 hit with SIDESHOW (which was recorded also, earlier by the STYLISTICS, and another group. BONEY M had their first hit, and everyone thought a certain male artist, in the group was actually singing...of course he was not! LIZ MITCHELL was the M in BONEY M, and practically arguably the group. LIZ herself living not far from me. STATUS QUO, getting in the top ten, with a HANK THOMPSON song, also recorded by JOSH McCRAE in 1960, and TOMMY QUICKLY in 64. LEO SAYER having both the number 17 single and album! PAUL NICHOLAS was off stage, and well before JUST GOOD FRIENDS, was the completely innocent popstar, with his 3rd top 20 hit...LIVERPOOL EXPRESS from Liverpool of course took part in NEW FACES (a kind of X-FACTOR) that also included other "talent" apart from the odd singer. The EAGLES scored their 1st of 2 top 20 singles...PUSSYCAT (from Holland) followed up MISSISIPPI with SMILE (a song just as good, that simply never gets played), but is on YOU TUBE with many of these, even GARY GLITTER, who had a comeback solo hit with IT TAKES ALL NIGHT LONG (TOO GET IT ON). These days it`s probably true! Outside the top 30, were BOOGIE NIGHTS - HEATWAVE, THE BROTHERS (off of OPPORTUNITY KNOCKS, with HUGHIE GREEN) and my favourite missed almost hit GORDON LIGHTFOOT`s, WRECK OF THE EDMUND FITZGERALD, and what class, that was. Let`s be different, with more class, the top 15, classical albums... w/k ending 01/02/08 01 CLASSIC FM VOICES 2008 - VARIOUS 02 VIVERE - ANDREA BOCCELLI 03 NO`1 CLASSICAL ALBUM - VARIOUS 04 ULTIMATE CLASSICAL ALBUM 2008 - VARIOUS 05 SERENADE - KATHERINE JENKINS 06 CLASSICAL 2008 - VARIOUS 07 CLASSIC FM RELAX - VARIOUS 08 ONE CHANCE - PAUL POTTS 09 ULTIMATE COLLECTION - PAVAROTTI 10 ULTIMATE CLASSICAL BOX - VARIOUS 11 INTO PARADISE - ALL ANGELS 12 TEATRO - VARIOUS 13 CLASSICAL VOICES - VARIOUS 14 LA FASSIONE - ALFIE BOE 15 VAUGHN-WILLIAMS AND TAVERNER - NICOLA BENDETTI How many times does Classical pop up! She wasn`t, and was kept off by DAVID SOUL, for a further 2 weeks. Question is, can ADELE get to the top next week, with the release of the album? Or can KELLY ROWLAND overtake everyone? Just outside the 40 this week are downers from RIHANNA (HTILY) is 41 looking to go back into the 40, also TIMBALAND (The Way I Are) is 42...there is KANYE WEST (Stronger), BLOC PARTY, MIKA (Happy Ending), ROBYN (Handle me) is 46, and there is DUFFY, MICHAEL JACKSON/WILL I AM (the original was better, with Paul McCartney in 1982), and the WOMBATS re-enter and are still dancing to Joy Division. That`s it. Don`t forget Next Week`s Chart (Monday around 4pm), when again, we might get some sales info and stuff about, what will or maybe won`t be in the Chart for the Sunday, of 3rd Feb! Yes, this is the only forum, that has a new chart, everyday! And also look out for new single releases in weeks, to come from H TWO, PLIES, COLBIE CAILLAT, and the return of ATOMIC KITTEN (who can`t keep their hands off old material), when they release a version of ANYONE WHO HAD A HEART (originally recorded by DIONNE WARWICK in 1964, that flopped for her), and substequently topped the chart, for CILLA BLACK. By cracky, that annoyed DIONNE WARWICK, quite a bit! I wonder if our other pal, "Jonny" might like the new one from ENVY AND OTHER SINS, entitled 'HIGHNESS)? Edited January 27, 200817 yr by trevs
January 26, 200817 yr Thanks Trevs. I must admit I too was a bit surprised by Jay Sean. I even noticed someone on another forum picked it up and was not convinced either :o How do you bunch do that next week chart thing? ;)
January 26, 200817 yr Thanks Trevs, and you answered my Michael Jackson question who sang on the original The Girl Is Mine, it was bugging me for a while, they also did another track together Say, Say Say. I think Kelly Rowland will take on Basshunter next week to be honest, its came up from nowhere in the mids so fast, it probably be top 5 tomorrow. Officially the Basshunter track does not feature any artist, it seems OCC are desperate to have a featured artist on it for some odd strange reason.

As I typed I realised suddenly Jay is actually no. 11 today, I typed it at 12! Funnily enough, SAY SAY SAY was an mrib number 1, in 83, after relentless plugs, on Radio 1, and even appearing (after it was going down the chart to 14) on Noel Edmond`s LATE LATE BREAKFAST SHOW.
January 26, 200817 yr Author Thanks Trevs. I must admit I too was a bit surprised by Jay Sean. I even noticed someone on another forum picked it up and was not convinced either :o How do you bunch do that next week chart thing? ;) Alright Angie? Next Week`s Chart, is just a collaberation, with some others that are in the business, of Record shops, that get hold of the sales of the 2 days, of Sunday and Monday. You get 4 sales top 20s, add them with 4 download charts. That makes 40% either way. Then take radio/tvplay, to beef up the sales positions (mainly of download only singles, that are greatly difficult to do, because download sales of newer material, tend to increase, as the week progresses). Its a 20% airplay, that completes the chart. And that`s why Worse Case Scenario was in, a few weeks back! We first started to do that chart, even before Radio Luxembourg finished. We started it in the spring of 1989 (just a few mates, really). It was very like the Luxembourg chart even then! As we got to 1990, we actually had BEVERLY CRAVEN`s "PROMISE ME" in the chart, a year before, it hit any other chart, as it was being played, all over Southern England! In the chart we did, it was number 5, a whole year, before 1991`s release! Then also, in 1993, we had CHAKA DEMUS and PLIERS, at number one, on the Christmas chart, a whole 2 weeks, before it actually happened! One of my mates, thought it might be an idea, to post one, on here. It proved quite well recieved, by the likes of Jonny, and many others. So, that`s why I decided to post it every week. As last year came, it was easier to do an album next week`s chart, as the downloads, don`t greatly effect that (yet)! Unfortunately, the downloads increasing, through the week (on the singles front), put`s our top 10, on a Monday nearer to a physical top ten. Edited January 26, 200817 yr by trevs
