then i am gonna recommend you 36 (aka 36 Quai des Orfèvres) the 'new' film (in the United Kingdom and Ireland territory at least  ) staring Hidden's Daniel Auteuil and Gérard Depardieu (from too many films to mention  )

the film gets its Criminal Division of the DRPJ Paris (Direction Régionale de Police Judiciaire de Paris or Regional Direction of Judiciary Police of Paris) and has been compared as the French version of Heat (probably not only due to the genre but also to do with them being kind of France's greatets actors like Al Pacino and Robert De Niro are in USA terms  )

The reason why i have mentioned Infernal Affairs, not only because its a more recent film (and being remade by Martin Scorsese as we speak) but also because it blurs the line between the police and the crimimal underworld that they are getting involved with (even though the film is just about the competition between Auteuil's and Depardieu's characters in the force, rather than the HK film's set up)

great film! be daft to miss this one out

I've got all the "Infernal Affairs" trilogy on DVD - absolutely fantastic films, probably the best film trilogy since the original "Star Wars"....

"36" sounds very intriguing - I've got a lot of time for Daniel Auteil, and it'll be good to see Gerard DePardieu going back to doing something a little more tough and edgy, he kinda became a bit of a self-parody because of garbage Hollywood films like "My Father The Hero". The DePardieu that I prefer is the intense DePardieu of films like "Danton".....

And hey, let's not forget about Jean Reno, surely he's one of France's 'great' actors as well..... ;)
