Posted January 27, 200817 yr A recent spate of teenage suicides has been linked to social networking sites, which detectives fear have been used to glorify the deaths. A growing number of children spend hours each day on websites such as Bebo, Facebook and MySpace, where there are few controls. Should social networking sites have tighter restrictions on content? Is it a parent’s responsibility to monitor their children on the internet? Who is ultimately responsible for the safety of children on the internet? Source: Sunday Telegraph

January 27, 200817 yr Parents and children themselves Parents have a responsibility to be checking what their kids are up to online Kids have a responsibility to not give out personal information .... the parents need to teach their children about safe / responsible use of the internet. oh and parents need to monitor just what their 'children' are using their mobile phones / web cams / digital cameras for. Too many parents refuse to stand up to their offspring - too many parents wouldn't dream of setting rules and sticking to them. AND make sure they know how to block / delete on MSN!
January 27, 200817 yr Parents are responsible, they need to monitor what their children are up to on the internet.
January 28, 200817 yr It's down to the parents to make sure they take an active interest in what their children are doing on the PC, teach them responsible and safe use, and as ICR says, to have rules that their children have to adher to.
January 28, 200817 yr If the child is not mature enough to realize that it is essential for them to keep certain things private then they should not be allowed to go on social networks. It is so ridiculous to see 11 and 12 year olds that have myspace or facebook accounts. Parents should monitor there children, it is not the sites responsibility.
January 28, 200817 yr like many have said, it's the parents' responsibility to monitor what their child is up to.
January 28, 200817 yr parents?... well yes to a degree, but at what age does a parent start trusting the maturing child? i dont think parents should wipe their kids arses forever, a child/teen/young adult needs appropriate supervision.
January 31, 200817 yr Too many parents refuse to stand up to their offspring - too many parents wouldn't dream of setting rules and sticking to them. AND make sure they know how to block / delete on MSN! Well, we all know the reason for that dont we...? They aint allowed to even give their kids a clip round the ear anymore when they're being out of order.... <_< And Yeah, I reckon parents should be setting up Parental Locks, Passwords, etc on their Browsers and Networks, blocking particular sites.... It's not as if it's a difficult thing to do, Windows gives you step by step instructions.....
