Downloads weren't included then weren't they?

Yep. They were counted as long as a physical version was available - had been since Amarillo-time earlier that year.

You remember - she would have been #1 if it were a physical-only chart but because of downloads, she was #2. This was fair but sad.

i'd be happy with a top 10 hit. this track isn't getting great radio support, awareness is a bit low. thank goodness she is here to do promo work and tv appearances, it is needed!! top5 will be tough lets see the effect of what POG and FNP on the track.

#8 in the midweeks, which is about what I was expecting to be honest. Not bad, but let's hope she climbs a little more! :D I think it'll end up at #7 or #9 personally, but Top5 would be amazing. :D

Up to #14 on iTunes too...

Up to #12 on iTunes. I think it'll chart at #6 on Sunday. :D

That'll do me! :D

I said I wanted Top20 for both the UK and US... so far it's done both so i'm very pleased. Of course Top5 in the UK and #1 in America will be preferred. :kink:

What do you think her chances are of making her 18th #1 on the Hot100? :P

It's pretty much guaranteed the number 1 - when you combine downloads and airplay nothing else is all that close. ^_^ It doesn't look as if Leona can hold her off because her downloads and airplay are both weaker, and Madonna isn't going to #1 yet, as airplay is much too low. :D
After Paul O Grady and Friday Night Project I think she'll break into the Top #5.
Sales are in, she's less than 100 copies behind Justin Feat. Madonna at 7, less than 800 copies behind Leona at 6, and about 1,300 copies behind The Kooks at 5 who will only continue to climb... so #6 it looks like is the highest. ^_^

Up to #7 in todays midweeks! :D

Mariah has now overtaken Justin Feat. Madge who is over 1,000 copies behind now, Leona is less than 300 copies ahead at 6 and Duffy is 1,400 copies ahead at 5. I think Mariah can take Leona but I think Duffy is a bit far out of reach...

As we were all anticipating... Touch My Body has become Mariah's 18th #1 as confirmed by Billboard. :w00t:

Well done Mariah.

Some more information about TMB:

• This week marks 78 cumulative weeks for Mariah at the #1 spot on the Hot 100. She is only 2 weeks behind Elvis Presley who holds the all-time record!

• As a songwriter, Mariah breaks the tie with Barry Gibb and takes the 3rd place for songwriters with most #1 hits. Only Paul McCartney with 32 and John Lennon with 26 have more.

• With 286,000 downloads, "Touch My Body" breaks the record for the first-week sales of a digital single! Not only is it Mariah's best single-week digital tally, it also breaks Mariah's previous first-week sales of a single ("Heartbreaker" debuted in 1999 with 271,000 copies sold.)

• "Touch My Body" debuted on the Hot 100 in the Billboard Issue of March 1, 2008. This is its 7th week on the Hot 100 chart and here is the chart run for the song so far: 57-34-24-16-14-15-01

• "Touch My Body" was first premiered on American radio on Tuesday, February 12, 2008. In about 6 hours, the song was played approximately 500 times in different radio stations across the US. It also had the biggest first week airplay since Mariah's "I'll Be There" in 1992. The song quickly exploded in all four major radio formats (Top 40 Mainstream, Rhythmic/Crossover, Urban, Adult R&B) and after only five weeks, it entered the top 10 in each format and reached #4 on the Hot 100 Airplay.

• The fun music video, directed by Brett Ratner, premiered on BET/MTV/VH1 on February 27 and quickly became the most viewed video on YouTube, Yahoo and AOL Music as well as the highest ranked video on the TRL and 106 & Park countdowns.

brilliant that its number 1 in america, and looks certain to be top 6 in UK :)
Wow, I can't believe such an average song has done so well in the US :o I love it, but still! Anywho, #7 or #6 sounds about right for the UK.

I just got my copy. ^_^

Personally I never expected it to hit #1, when I first heard it I thought it would go Top20 in both the US and UK at best. Now it's #7 in the UK midweeks and #1 in the US. Potentially I think Mariah could have at least another 2 #1's off this album. The ballads are where she scores big and with a guaranteed ballad up next I wouldn't rule it out. Plus Migrate will be HUGE in the US should they choose to release it as the third single. So I really wouldn't rule out anymore #1's from this project.

I would like to think it's pretty much guaranteed that E=MC² will hit #1 when it's released in 2 weeks also, not sure how it will sell in it's first week but I hope for somewhere around 350k, keeping in mind that Mimi sold 410k in it's first week when it was released pretty much at the same time in 2005, I know sales have decreased since then but the single just shows that demand is definitely there. So we'll see...

I think everything about the project thus far has been spot on, in terms of what IDJ have done to promote Mariah. Let the single build up steam on it's own on airplay, throw out the video a few weeks later, do a few high profile appearances (with many more to come around the albums release), premiere a few new tracks along the way to build anticipation for the album and ride the wave, which is working superbly so far.

Oh and also there was a HUGE poster of the album cover on the wall behind the cash desk at HMV, which read "The album is coming... 14/04/08" which I thought was pretty cool. ^_^

'Bye Bye' and 'Migrate' will both hit no.1.

Then I'm sure she will release a deluxe version of the album, just so she can release another track, to take over Elvis!

Oh and TMB climbs to #11 on UK iTunes. :P
I knew it'd go #1, the record company had a great tactic of delaying the download until the airplay had built up. Good for her though, eighteen #1s is a massive achievement and the song has grown on me over time. I don't think it'll turn into a classic like some of her others though. I'm liking the sound of Bye Bye and Migrate more. :)
