Arcade Fire, Feist and MIA have been named among the final ten acts nominated for this year's Shortlist Prize.

The accolade, which has been dubbed the American Mercury Music Prize, awards artists that have sold under 500,000 albums in the US.

Previous winners include Sigur Ros, Damien Rice and Cat Power.

Artists including Snow Patrol's Gary Lightbody and The Killers' Ronnie Vannucci are on the judging panel for the award.

The final 2008 list is:

Arcade Fire - Neon Bible

Burial - Untrue

Feist - The Reminder

Justice - Cross

LCD Soundsystem - Sound of Silver

M.I.A. - Kala

Spoon - Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga

Stars - In Our Bedroom After the War

Wilco - Sky Blue Sky

Working for a Nuclear Free City - Businessmen & Ghosts

Which of these albums do you think deserves to win?

Without a doubt Arcade Fire.

"Neon Bible" was my 2nd best album last year, and didn't have a none perfect track on it. They MUST be one of the best live bands around now as well. Excelent.

Almost every single one of those albums are just pure brilliance!  From LCD Soundsystem to Burial to Feist to M.I.A. to Justice to Spoon to Stars to Arcade Fire. Each one of these are deserving winners. :cheer: :cheer:

Feist wins Shortlist Music Prize

Feb 5, 2008

Canadian songstress Feist won the Seventh Annual Shortlist Music Prize for her album 'The Reminder' yesterday (February 4) in Los Angeles.

She became the second female singer to win the accolade - the north American equivalent of the Nationwide Mercury Music Prize, after last year's triumph by Cat Power.

Feist beat the likes of Arcade Fire, MIA, LCD Soundsystem, Justice and five other acts.

Feist was chosen by a panel of judges including Gary Lightbody from Snow Patrol, who said of the record: “The album of the year for 2007 or any year I can think of: it’s modern and classic all at once. There are so many kinds of beauty in this record.”

Feist is the first Canadian to win the prize.

Do you think the Feist album deserved to win or not?

I'm ecstatic she won. The Reminder is just perfection - much like her previous LP Let It Die.  Feist is the current Queen of Canada for moi until Alanis properly makes a comeback. :P

I'm disappointed that Arcade Fire did not win. Although I would have been pleased if M.I.A. LCD Soundsystem or Justice had won.

But for me the Feist album is fairly good in a singer/songwriter female Rufus Wainwright/sub Kate Busgh/Suzanne Vega sort of way but is inferior to fairly similar Bats For Lashes' Fur & Gold album that was the bookies favourite for the Mercury Music Awards.

Very good album and deserves recognition. However, that being said, I think Justice, LCD Soundsystem, MIA, or Arcade Fire deserved it more. And I've also heard absolutely stunning things about the Burial album.
