Arctic Monkeys have scored a record seven nominations for this year's NME Awards, including best British band, best album and best track.

Other nominees include Klaxons, who are up for four prizes.

But troubled singer Amy Winehouse has been nominated for villain of the year along with Prime Minister Gordon Brown, Tony Blair and George Bush.

Winners are decided by the music weekly's readers and will be announced at a London ceremony on 28 February.

Winehouse is nominated for best solo artist, along with Kate Nash, Jack Penate, Jamie T and Patrick Wolf.

But she is also in the worst dressed category, where she faces competition from Pete Doherty, although he is also nominated for the best dressed award.

Competing against the Arctic Monkeys for best British band are Babyshambles, The Cribs, Klaxons and Muse.

In the best album category, the Arctic Monkeys are up against Babyshambles, The Enemy, Klaxons and Radiohead.

I heard about this earlier on a different forum, but there was no offical confirmation yet so I decided to leave it. :P

7 is an unbelievable amount of nominations tbf! I don't know how many they'll win, but the more the better obviously. :w00t: Alex is up for Best Dressed as well I do believe. I think they should win Best Album and Best Band. Not 100% sure though...these awards are sometimes a little un-predictable...

Arctic Monkeys have scooped seven nominations at the NME Shockwaves Awards, including best British band, best video and best track.

Battling against Arctic Monkeys for the best live band award will be Muse, The Cribs, Kaiser Chiefs and My Chemical Romance.

Muse, Babyshambles, Klaxons and The Cribs will also go head to head against the Arctic Monkeys in the best British band category.

Mercury-award winning Klaxons have garnered a further three nominations for best album, best video and best dance floor filler.

Singer Amy Winehouse has been nominated for the unenviable awards of villain of the year and worst dressed, but also received nods in the best music DVD and best solo artist categories, up against Kate Nash, Patrick Wolf, Jack Penate and last year’s winner Jamie T.

Arcade Fire, Foo Fighters, The Killers, Kings Of Leon and My Chemical Romance are all competing for the best international band accolade, while Foals, Joe Lean & The Jing Jang Jong take on the Pigeon Detectives, the Enemy and The Wombats for the best new band award.

The awards ceremony takes place at the O2’s Indigo2 on February 28.

I voted for the Monkeys in 3 of the 7 awards ^_^ Those being Best British Band, Best Live Act and Best Album.
How come Brianstorm wasn't nominated for best single? I thought it was better than Fluorescent Adolescent. You guys probably won't agree.

I'm not sure tbh. I like both but I do prefer Fluorescent Adolescent I must admit. I've no idea what criteria these nominations were chosen on.

I don't get Teddy Picker for best video, i mean i liked the idea of the video and everything, but i'd have much preferred the AM vid to get a nomination :o

These are tonight!

On E4 (11pm?) I believe. ^_^ Let's hope they win all 7 and set a new record. :w00t:

  • Author

They've won 2 already!!!

Can't remember exactly what though. :( Best Track for FA I believe and something for Teddy Picker too, although i'm not sure!

Is any of it going to be live tonight? According to NME.com, the whole thing is meant to be live on E4

It's definitely not live. Is taking place now.

They won Best Band, Best Track and Best Album.

Why is it on so early? Has it all finished now? There's no been one word about it on the official NME forums

They seem to have won Best Video aswell

Bahhh I made a typo. :( I meant Best Video and not Best Album. :(

But yeah it's strange they're this early. I think it's so they can all go get smashed straight after the show.

Ouch.

Klaxons were apparently pretty pissed that they didn't win Best Dancefloor Filler.

I agree with a fair amount of the winners - but I also disagree with a lot. I mean Teddy Picker shouldn't have won Best Video, should have been FA!!

Some of the awards are plain stupid though. :(

I see they didn't wear the farmer clothes this week
