On August 31st 1957, Elvis was at the Empire Stadium, in Vancouver, BC for a show in front of 26,500 fans. Twice, the show had to be stopped as the audience surrounded the stage, and despite the Colonel, (who has complained about the lax security) cautioning Elvis to tone down his act, Elvis continues as he has done. George Klein recalled, ‘the last thing we recalled was the stage turned over.’ :o

Prior to the show, at a press conference, Elvis tells reporters that his first love was ‘old colored spirituals.’ He goes onto to say, probably with a little exaggeration,’ I know practically every religious song that’s ever been written.’
