Danesh previously appeared as Billy Flynn in Chicago and Sky Masterson in Guys And Dolls, but this will be his biggest role to date.

He said he was "over the moon" to have landed the coveted role.

"Just being asked to audition for Trevor Nunn was such a privilege," he said.

Well done Darius

I 'spoke' to some of you over on the backup site yesterday but want to add my best wishes. It's a bit of a coup and a great opportunity for him. He may hit Broadway yet :D

DARIUS DANESH WILL PLAY RHETT BUTLER

Gone With The Wind

Friday, February 1, 2008, 8:30am by Staff Reporter.

Darius Danesh will lead the cast in Trevor Nunn’s production of Margaret Mitchell’s classic novel, Gone with the Wind, playing the iconic role of Rhett Butler.

In a new music theatre adaptation of the classic love story with book and lyrics by Margaret Martin adapted by Trevor Nunn and music by Margaret Martin, Gone with the Wind will have its first performance at the New London Theatre on Friday 4 April 2008 and is initially booking until 27 September 2008.

Set in 1860’s Atlanta, Georgia, Gone with the Wind follows the story of the seventeen-year-old Scarlett O’Hara, the eldest of three daughters living a life of ease and comfort on their father’s plantation until the onset of the Civil War threatens this idyllic existence. Scarlett’s incredible journey through both the war and the peace is mirrored in her turbulent relationship with Rhett Butler, whose actions invariably defy prediction. Their story spans ten years and mingles romantic joy with tragic grief, as the life these people once knew disappears, and we are asked if what has ‘gone with the wind’ is for better or worse.

Glasgow born Darius Danesh is a platinum-selling recording artist, songwriter and actor. In 2006 he ended a second successful West End run in the musical Chicago playing Billy Flynn at the Adelphi Theatre and 2007 saw him star as Sky Masterson in Michael Grandage’s Olivier Award-winning production of Guys and Dolls.

It is in the Record, Pam - only with a 'Chicago' pic of him.

Thanks Meg.

My local paper shop was closed as I passed and tesco don't sell them....I'll pop to the Spar on the way to mums and see if they have it :)

I looked up the composer/lyrics.

could only find this - apparently it is her first time of writing.

Presumably your googling will have found many references to 'first time composer Margaret Martin' and 'sociologist-turned-composer Margaret Martin'. Which should answer your question. I'm sure there will be many articles in the next few months remarking on the coincidence of a first-time composer adapting a debut novel.

I am not suprised about Darius doing more musicals as when I seen him in Guys n Dolls he was great.

he must be getting noticed more over in the USA now as his dad said that he has been offerd roles within films.

I wish him all the best for this role, also for his future with Natasha

I'm not sure if it is posted here and I have missed it, but there was an article in the Daily Mail too yesterday HERE

I think it is great news for Darius. Although I haven't seen him in any theatre production, he sure does have the looks to be Rhett.

Good luck to him.

Great news for you fans too.

Wow! Looks like I need to be away more often!

How wonderful! Congratulations to Darius. I expect a lot of people, many of them more experienced, would have been up for this role. I've always thought he'd be a brilliant Rhett since that first night of Chicago and as soon as this musical was mentioned, I hoped that he would take over the role some time in the future. I'm dancing with joy that Trevor Nunn has put his faith in Darius to be his original Rhett.

Good luck to Darius! It must have been gruelling to have auditions for three months! I cannot imagine how stressful that would have been.

glad your back, BT - bet you were like me, pinching yourself - this is fantastic fordarius, and a poke in the eye for those scoffing, Trevor Nunn said these were the toughest auditions he has done, so Darius had done himself proud.
