Yes but if people use the first reviews to influence groups to return their tickets, that's extremely damaging.

can't be helped though, its such a shame critics can have such influence

I just hope word of mouth gets around, or that its mainly tourists and visitors to the WE who dont read the press reviews and see only the theatre blarb on the ticket sites

I really would like to see these critics back track a bit on their IMO harsh reviews though, it seems so unfair - I know its seemingly their personal opinion of the show they saw, but if it stops people going and enjoying what I thought was a very enjoyable show it can't be right.

I just can't understand why all of them found it so terrible..its as if they were on a retainer from AWL! I am just gobsmacked.

I think their opinions were formed before they'd seen anything about the show. A theatre group leader should know that.
Some of them went to the preview, some at the press night were writing their copy at the interval. I think the consensus is that GWTW moves up a gear in the second act.
It does - but some of them were against the show from the time they knew a first time writer had got a West End theatre.
It's such a shame that these people haven't learnt that people can do things differently and, sometimes someone new to an art can do very well. That's if they aren't successful in shooting her down in flames.
They were most certainly aginst it before it had gone to previews and hadnt even seen it. I dontbelieve the majority of them have seen it even now. There is a lot of repetition in their posts just like it was for chicago.I do hope their favourites like ruthie henshall and john barrowman get the same treatment.I notice that the WOS critic said that JBS opinion of one nancy was just off a cruise ship and the critic said when he saw JB in concert it was guess he was just like off a cruise ship.!!
I don t know if its been on here but the Stage were having another go on monday. saying you couldnt give away a free ticket on the opening night. etc etc. What a pack of lies, it was sold out.
People probably thought he was a tout and would steer clear anyway. The rest had been lucky enough to get tickets. The fact that the tickets weren't on general sale and it was still crowded was incredible.
I get the feeling they all dive in once the negativity sets in, trying to out do each ohter, its like a feeding frenzy for sharks! and then of course you could have the emporers new clothes thing..when some may think its quite good if they see it now - but don't like to say because they might be the only one and look a fool....will be interesting as time goes on.

Well, I'll let you know if the shows still there next week. It's funny but it still seeems ages away and it isn't
I think they should start at 7 all week, but then all the WE shows finish too late for us to get home - tubes at 11.00pm on a night don't thrill me, so we'd only ever go to a matinee or a stay over at a hotel- which we cant just yet, as I dont like to leave youngest over night with the others. Then again perhaps thats the ploy..the hotels are there making money via the WE shows I suppose
We are lucky in that, as long as we get a move on, we can make it. They are still thinking about an earlier start but would rather not do it.
It wouldnt be so good for the cast on matinee deays would it because he matinee finishes late and they wouldnt get much of a break BUT
We just have to wait. I now have to be careful. I'm developing a really strong dislike for people who use what power they have to try and gleefully and unfairly destroy someone else's work.
