This is the first time I have actually read theatre reviews to be honest, and the first time I have been to an early perfomance of a completely new show! and can compare what I saw to what critics are saying and I have to say it has got to me. I didnt think it would, as I have no connection with the production apart from Darius,(I may even have stated that I didnt care if it didnt do well as long as Dairus does) but I just find myself genuinely feeling this show just is so good it doesnt deserve this.

That's the problem. I now feel so bad for Margaret Martin. Being new isn't a good enough reason to destroy someone's work. Darius having great reviews isn't enough for me in this show. It's the attitudes I have a problem with and the media for, in many cases, intensifying the unfairness of it all. What happened to the days that people who tried and persisted got applauded not stoned?
Beforehand I thought I wouldn't mind anything so long as the critics didn't slaughter Darius because of Popstars and Pop Idol but now I feel really bad for all the other amazing people who have worked and who are working so hard to bring this wonderful story to life. It just seems so ill deserved.

Here's a novelty - a young man who admits to liking the show.

He can't name the songs so gives them similar sounding songs names. Maybe he's hinting as other critics have that they are derivative.

I think that does underline one of the problems. People have no title, nothing to hang on to. Even if they do retain a phrase or two, it doesn't connect in their heads because they can't fit it to a moment.

ehh? glad he enjoyed the show, I am sure it has changed since a lot saw it, even at this early stage peopl eseem to be mentioning bits I dont recall LOL - was confused at a lot of what he said though.

But you see the problem if there are no song titles in the programme, don't you? i liked the way he evoked the sound he recalled by another song.

I'm not sure about Bali Hai - Mammy's song or Prissy's ?

no idea - I suppose the old man river is the one Pork sings, with the deep voice..

aint necesarily so..cant place it

Bali Hi??

I thought all the songs were good, could have done without prissy one, although she had a great voice..just I liked the simple minded idea and didnt see why they made her want to be a teacher..I suppose PC.

How can you put song titles in the programme when you don't know which will be staying? They've changed several times. maybe when the brochure arrives it will be set which will remain.

I really dont think people understand how much work there has been to condense such a long work, at the same time keeping the story line flowing and the themes covered.

There is a particularily stupid commnet from some one who saw a preview a week earlier, on that same page - and can't understand how sean enjoyed the show, commenting it must have been a different show to the one I saw

..durrrrrrrrrrrrrrr don't people grasp the preview concept, obviously the show seen after opening night was different to the preview one

Previews are for sorting things I thought, no point at all if the production was set in stone from first preview to ad fin itmen, especially if problems are thrown up during those previews

Even if they just had a printed insertion in the programmes for the moment with scene descriptions and song titles would be a step forward. I could knock those out on a computer and a laser printer. It's not technically challenging.

But they were still working hard. On the 19th they were still aware cuts needed to be made. It'd be silly just to do it without making sure it worked - maybe we'll see the changes next week. I'll wait for the brochure.

I love this description of Darius's Rhett

Darius Danesh’s Rhett has all that’s required, devilish eyes, a sonorous voice, a lot of slicked black hair and something extra too, the god-like swagger of a young Sean Connery.

Clark Gable and Sean Connery, not at all bad for a young actor to be likened to.

Not my God. No. I can imagine the Ancient Greek gods striding about, especially Zeus. He was a god renowned for taking exactly what he wanted when he wanted.
