I must be at least 60 years ago - Does anyone know when the film was made. I suppose people who were children or ery young adults could still have survived. It'll be interesting to see who they are and who they played.

1939

I believe one of the chaps who was one of the Tarbolton twins, the red haired boys with Scarlett in the first scene in the film, is alive and obviously still very active as he has his own blog. Someone mentioned Ann Rutherford too, who played Careen - Scarlett's youngest sister.

I only wish my family would tell me their arrangements so I can find at least one date to see Darius before I go away. I'm going to have to hassle them. I really hate doing that to people but I'm getting uptight.

Well I think we should have seats for the first night never mind all the big wigs and press...we could write the review :D

I'll agree with that. We should have the firstpick - then they can let the others in.
I'd have tobuy a new gown for a world premiere, wouldn't I, and break out the cubic zirconia!
I would, BT, given a chance to be part of that, I certainly would. Or wear something I already had like I did for the Chicago 10th. I have a funny feeling no oe would notice.
I have noticed that myself. I do notice if he's wearing the same as usual though.

Darius and Jill Paice did a photocall today. Battlecat has posted links to the various photosites on .net

BTW do you know Gary Cooper wouldn't go up for the role of Rhett and he thought Gable had got himself a turkey when he accepted GWTW

This one seems quite nice and true.

Darius plays Rhett

Jill Plaice is the new Scarlett O’ Hara and Darius Danesh is to play her Rhett. Danesh became known as a contestant on the original Pop Idol contest. At the time he was called one of the nicest contestants. The amiable Danesh stated that he was very surprised to get the role of Rhett Butler. He had been convinced that they were looking for a known film star, but decided to try out anyway.

The stage play is an adaptation of the novel Gone with the Wind. The book was published in 1936 and was written by Margaret Mitchell. It is the epic saga of the American Civil War. The book was expected to flop because the main female character was uncharacteristically strong-willed and selfish.

The original screenplay had Vivien Leigh as Scarlett O’Hara and Clark Gable as Rhett Butler. The film was shown in 1939. It won ten Academy Awards. Screen Digest, a film trade journal, declared Gone with the Wind ‘the most successful movie of all time at the US box office’.

Danesh was informed only a few days ago that he had got the coveted role. He has the highest regard and admiration for the stage director Sir Trevor Nunn. Darius Danesh has been described as having matinee idol looks. He was extremely popular with the audience of Pop Idol. He won many female fans during the contest. It is believed that there is something of the Clark Gable aura about him.

The auditions were held by Sir Trevor Nunn in London as well as New York. Danesh is from Glasgow but revealed he had spent two years in Los Angeles. He had been attending acting lessons to master the Meisner Technique. Darius has appeared in stage musicals:

Chicago (playing Billy Flynn)

Guys and Dolls (playing Sky Masterson)

This is not the first time that the novel Gone with the Wind has been made into a musical. In 1970 the musical Scarlett premiered in Japan as a Japanese production. In 1972 Scarlett was adapted for the London theatre. Sir Trevor Nunn has said he will remain true to the Margaret Mitchell version. The lyrics and music will be composed by newcomer Margaret Martin. Rehearsals start this week and the show will open in April 2008.

It sounds as if it's based on the GMTV interview and is a fair paraphrasing of what Darius actually said.

Amiable is a very good description for Darius. I'll bet as an actor, he's very easy to direct

Do you think so.......I think I'd need to watch the rehersals before I could say that ^_^

I like their comments in that they seem to see what we see. like the bit has an aura about him.
