PRINCE CHARLES and Prime Minister Gordon Brown have sung the praises of pop guru Simon Fuller for his “extraordinary” TV creations: Pop Idol and Fox TV phenomenon American Idol.

 

Charles and the PM both recorded video tributes to the mogul, which were played at the Producers Guild Awards in Hollywood.

 

Simon, who was responsible for the Spice Girls, was receiving the Visionary Award for the “unique and uplifting quality” of his work.

 

And the royal also praised the pop svengali for his generous support of his charity, The Prince’s Trust.

 

Charles said: "Simon is well-known to millions as the creator of the extraordinary phenomenon known in the United Kingdom as Pop Idol and in your country as American Idol.

 

"He has been one of the most effective and generous ambassadors for my Trust, which I set up 32 years ago to help the most disadvantaged young people in the United Kingdom.

 

"There are many young people in the United Kingdom whose lives have been transformed and, in some cases, saved - literally - thanks to the contribution which Simon has made."

 

Gordon Brown hailed Simon as a “talented and brilliant person.

 

"The stars he has discovered or managed have gone on to huge success around the world, from the Spice Girls to David Beckham."

 

"His (Pop Idol) idea was that in small towns across the world, people living ordinary lives have extraordinary talent, and all they would need is the courage and the chance .

 

And didn't they just take it.

I was actually wondering whether Darius has an acting agent or not? I presume he is still managed by SF and (Brilliant)19 -after all the mergers/acquisitions etc., does 19 now also cover that sector?

 

I know Will was said to have signed up to a very famous acting agency just after Mrs Henderson Presents and I'm pretty sure that was totally independent of 19. I can't remember if Will also had agents in America.

 

I'm still really curious about the nature of the film roles Darius was offered.

 

What happens when Darius is under contract to a show, does his own management arrange TV appearances, press interviews etc. or is all that controlled by e.g. the show's/theatre group's press agents? You'd think it would have to be thelatter becauseof rehearsal schedules etc. because tweaking goes on all the time in the early stages of any show and after every cast change.

 

 

Simon F was visionary enough to do a deal to hang on to Darius when D wanted to walk away from the PI contract!

Well, his management are involved in interviews and things with GWTW, so maybe it'll be the same with films.

Is Nicky still Darius's day to day manager in the UK?

Yes, he is.

That's brilliant! I am so glad.

He does seem a nice man.

I took to Nicky right away. I think he's like Darius, "What you see is what you get" and he seems to genuinely care about his artist's welfare not just their image and/or how much he can make from them. .

Is he day to day or more likely month to month!!!! sorry joke.

I think he'll be very hour by hour for the next few weeks.

I just hope Darius's people capitalise on this. They should persuade him to put out a few of his songs in acoustic/demo form, even if he later intends to put further production on them.

Wouldn't that be nice? If he could be on Tv while the show is running, publicising his own album as well as the sho and it's album. Not only do I want cake, I want to eat it too.

I want a replenishing cake - you eat it and snap, it's still there for the next time.

 

Just give us that Darius unplugged album, Darius. You know you want to!

I know its only a week ago from Ds GMTV interview but I felt it galling when Beaudarius said there is a notice at the theatre boxoffice to go to two other theatres if you wanted to get tickets this week as they werent open so she had to trot around to other theatres, wonder how many others found that after seeing im on tv. lets hope if they didnt bother they return next week.

That alters when they have staff in - when the rehearsals start. It's not abnormal. The box office and usher staff would jusst be in the way as the theatre is being altered.

It might be a health and safety thing too if e.g. there are massive sets to be built.

It is just how things work. Nothing against Darius or the show.

but it's the way Darius's luck seems to run.

 

It reminds me of that something clever/something dumb TV commercial - was that for some insurance or finance company?
