Amy Winehouse will not perform at this year's Grammy Awards in the US, her publicist has said.

The singer, who has been struggling with drink and drug problems, has been denied entry to the United States.

The Outside Organisation, which represents the retro-soul star, said Winehouse's request for a visa had been turned down by the US Embassy in London.

In an email statement it said: "Unfortunately, her application for a visa to enter the United States of America has been rejected at this time by the American Embassy in London.

"Amy has been progressing well since entering a rehabilitation clinic two weeks ago and although disappointed with the decision has accepted the ruling and will be concentrating on her recovery."

Winehouse had visited the US Embassy in her bid to secure a visa.

She is nominated for six Grammy awards, the first British woman to be nominated for so many.

The categories she is up for include best album and best new artist.

At the time of the nominations she said: "I'm honoured to have my music recognised through these nominations by people I respect and admire in the music industry."

The ceremony is being held at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles on Sunday.

In addition to her current well-documented addiction problems - she entered rehab on January 24 after a video emerged of her apparently smoking crack cocaine - Winehouse was arrested and fined in Norway last October for possession of cannabis.

Good, she still needs to stay in Rehab.

Although I read that she'll perform and accept her awards (if she wins) via satelite.

Yeah it said on gmtv that she'll be there by a satellite link.

Personally I'm pleased too. I know Amy wanted to go but she needs to focus on sorting her problems out.

maybe not been aloowed the visa will make her realise that drugs really do hold u back in the end,.although its a shame she cant go she may just learn from it
Im sure it was done to teach her a lesson and for her to get her act together because she really wanted to be there
