I have been listening to alot of their early hits when they were a punk band, hits like duchess, five minutes and peaches (classic), which were their best. They went a bit pop in the 80's, I hate golden brown though their cover of all day and all of the night was okay, and always the sun was good. Whats others opinions on them? I

I love the early stuff but I do like the later stuff as well like European Female and Skin Deep.

Rattus Norvegicus is a great album.

The art teacher at my secondary school made the giant ear for the Aural Sculpture cover. Hung around the art room for ages.

I guess they were to the Punk/New Wave secene what the Inspiral Carpets were to the Madchester scene

There early late 1970s work was their best, although they did make some great records in the 1980s up until Always The Sun and their Dreamtime album, before heading for a final decline.

My fav track by them is:

Stranglers - Nice N Sleazy (UK#18 1978)

mixed.... peaches, something better change, skin deep, always the sun, strange little girl.. good tracks... golden brown was... erm... brown stuff!
I like Peaches, Nice n Sleazy, Always the Sun and Waltz in Black best. Erm, Golden Brown is kinda 'our song' between me and my girlfriend...besides there aren't enough harpsichord waltzes in the charts any more.
I really like a lot of their stuff, but especially No more heroes, Always the sun, Something better change, Peaches, Skin deep, 5 minutes, and Strange little girl.
I guess they were to the Punk/New Wave secene what the Inspiral Carpets were to the Madchester scene

when i mentioned the stranglers a few months ago it was in relation to this lot

youknow for people who could be punk/alternative but really maybe more a pub rock band
