Posted February 9, 200817 yr Thanks to Claire on .net And Marti believes Darius Danesh has made a smart move by giving up his pop music career for a career on the stage, beginning with his debut role as Rhett Butler in the West End adaptation of the classic American Civil War tale Gone With The Wind. Marti said: "I was doing GMTV on Monday and saw him being interviewed live from New York. I'm made up for the guy. Trevor Nunn is very well respected and it is a good move for Darius to be moving in those circles. "I have kept myself in the realms of musical theatre. I waited the best part of five years before I went for another project because when you do eight shows a week you have to have a passion. "You also have to feel you can grow in the role. There's a confidence I'll have playing the devil, whereas the Gone With The Wind project will be great for Darius to do. It is exciting. "I presume it isn't a musical version of Gone With The Wind and I can't speak for Darius but I think it is great to have that diversity." Tommy said: "It's great to see someone like Darius changing his career. He had a pop career that lasted all of two singles spread across a year and a half and he was wise to change direction. "His theatre role in Gone With The Wind is good for him. It's immense." nice - although seems they are out of the musical theatre loop, if Darius playing Billy Flynn twice and Sky masterton in Guys and Dolls slipped past them, and as for two singles over two years, well... February 9, 200817 yr I think it's just what has filtered through to them about D arius, an incomplete picture. D's debut in Chicago was well publicised so it will have sunk in, whereas G &D hasn't. Remember too, there was a long gap between Dive In and Live Twice and the singles from it tend to have been overlooked a bit, because Darius hasn't performed them much here because he was living in the US concentrating on writing new songs. There's been an even bigger gap to this 3rd Album so to the outside obsever Darius does seem to have given up his music for MT. Shame Marti wasn't in the 10th anniversary show then we could have seen how Darius's billy stood up in comparison to his Broadway Billy.
February 9, 200817 yr Author was marti busy then, as I would have assumed as he was one of the most successful Billys he would have made an appearance..we even had to suffer his face on posters at our bus shelters.something which, sadly, didnt happen with Darius..LOL mind you there is that other thing, just forgetting to metnion something at the time, even though you do recall it. February 9, 200817 yr presumably he was either involved with WWW and their album or didn't get an invitation to do it.. I wonder if Marti would secretly rather be Rhett in the West End, he's about the character's right age, than Daryl Van Horne on tour? He seems to think GWTW will be a stage play, not a musical. I'm sure Darius would do just fine if it was.
February 9, 200817 yr Author who wouldnt want to play Rhett Butler, the most famous Romance Character the world..given the chance
February 9, 200817 yr Exactly. Although we're desperate for Darius to release the 3rd album to show people that he's still a singer/songwriter and has absolutely no intention of giving up his music career, he has to keep putting it on hold for job opprtunities which he'd be crazy to turn down. Richard Gere, Marlon Brando, Clark Gable - the shoes to fill keep getter bigger and bigger. Good job Darius has big feet! Who's next? How about Burton ? Can Darius do a convincing Welsh accent?
February 9, 200817 yr Author LOL..I cant imagine D with that accent, it was lovely on Richard Burton though, I did like him.. he did have some great roles...Darius as Mark Antony, I should think so...
February 9, 200817 yr It is strange you discussing Richard burton because I was reading an article today in sunday paper about him and what you are saying crossed my mind about D doing some of his roles.
February 9, 200817 yr Burton just came to mind because he had great charisma too. Every time I see Robert Taylor in Quentin Durward, I think I'd like that re-made with Darius in the lead. He could drop the American accents and just use his own beautiful Scottish one.
February 9, 200817 yr Author and I thought I was fixated..I seem to always be placing Darius in these alpha male roles - ok I am fixated
February 9, 200817 yr I think I thought about Darius as Quentin Durward before he put one foot on the Adelphi stage. I've no idea why. Maybe I secretly want him to be a knight in shining armour.
February 9, 200817 yr I think I thought about Darius as Quentin Durward before he put one foot on the Adelphi stage. I've no idea why. Maybe I secretly want him to be a knight in shining armour. I also wanted him to be the Red Shadow. Iy must've been Brad's horse, Rodriguez, that started me off.
February 10, 200817 yr His first professional Shakespeare role? Please nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
February 11, 200817 yr I bet that'll come as well. Hopefully, after many other things, including his album.
February 11, 200817 yr Author I am desperate to be honest, but I am chuffed on this role, as we know you can bring out an album in the music business and have it disappear without trace, so many people didnt even know about Live twice!
