Posted February 9, 200817 yr This is thoroughly excellent tbh. There's SO much musical context behind them too, absolute musical pioneers in the New Wave field. Hopefully they can have a successful musical return :D
February 9, 200817 yr I liked the early B52s material - but the later, more cheesy stuff.... total turn-off for me.
February 9, 200817 yr I liked the early B52s material - but the later, more cheesy stuff.... total turn-off for me. Well I dont know whether its supposed to be cheesy - or whether they just became cheesy by mass-consumption and anyway that might not be such a bad thing since New Order's World In Motion was in the hits "so awful but you gotta love it' selection today a lot of their [cheesy] stuff was produced by Nile Rodgers and Don Was wasnt it?? and for a long time their seemed to be bad vibes associsted and put with the d-word - so its probs to do with those attitudes to disco - tho the word is getting positive associations now would like to get some mutant disco stuff - but not got round to reading the mutant disco chapter yet in the book but thats something i wanna get into. - i view them as some kinda equivalent to the films of John Waters...and you know just how huge the remake of Hairspray was!!! total mondo trasho!!! & any band who can have a song called Hot Pants explosion is alright by me  http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B00005QK0A.01._SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg tho if its love shack you're getting at - i dont care for Love Shack, deeeeeeee-lites Groove is in the heart is a similar type of [mutant discxo] concept and i would be my preference for any list (tho at this point the less said about Emmie's Who's The Daddy the better  ) and on the other hand - i guess one of these people below would kill to make a record as Rock Lobster http://rangerecords.com/ARMY_OF_LOVERS_MASSIVE_LUXURY_OVERDOSE.jpg http://www.verbosecoma.com/raveonettes_20122005_top.jpg ....and in comparison to other Athens Georgia Alternative Indie types - yeah its a better cover than the new one by R.E.M http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/5/51/Funplex.jpg Supercalifragiwhataoutfityougoton!!!
March 3, 200817 yr I really like "Funplex", not my thing at all usually bit this is veryyy good. i've not heard it yet - i guess the hits will be still playing nickelback and h two o all day - tho they did show the new REM and shiny happy people over the last few days. btw talking of mutant disco types..there's supposed to be a new Was (Not Was) album as well http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/e/e1/Wasnotwas.jpg probably will have a new woodwork squeaks and out come the freaks on it????
March 28, 200817 yr I can't get enough of 'Funplex' right now, it's so addictive it's unreal. After several listens you can't help but sing along. I heard the album and really liked that too, I'll probably buy it.
