Do you think the album is as good as we all raved over when it was first released.

I'm listening to it now and theres still songs which I love but it just isn't as good as Aff.

What would you have released now for it too?

I would have gone;

01. After You [Early Summer]

02. No Mans Land [Late Summer]

03. Ain't That A Lot Of Love [October]

04. Time Is On My Side/Black Butta [December]

Tbh after No Mans Land I don't think any of it is singles material :o

The album definately has its fillers in;

Trade It Up

Rock Steady

What do you think of it now?

hmm, its grew on me since I saw her live as I thought it was pretty c**p at first. I would have released something like this -

1. Black Butta

2. No Man's Land

3. Time Is On My Side

4. Saviour / Ain't That A Lot Of Love

I have to say, I'm a bad person and got as many songs from this album as I could find on  ...limewire

These are the songs I've heard:

After You - One of the better songs in my opinion. I think it is probably the most radio and commercially friendly song that I've listened to. Fairly standard Beverley Knight stuff.

No Man's Land - I like it enough to listen to regularly, but if I were to pick my favourite songs of this album it would just miss the top 5.

The Queen Of Starting Over - I just LOVE this song, it's my most listened to Beverley Knight song and third most listened to this year. I don't know what draws me to this song, probably the lyrics. But yeah, my fave song from her.

Black Butta - This reminds me of the song 'Brown Sugar' possibly because it reminds me of food and they both talk about being sweet in the song. This is my second favourite song on the album and is slowly becoming one of my favourite songs from her out of everything. I just really like this genre from Beverley, it seems different to her normal stuff.

Saviour - I've only listened to this once. That probably means it isn't catchy enough.

Why Me, Why You, Why Now - I like this quite a lot, I haven't listened to it that much, but when I do I find myself thinking "I should listen to this more often"

Tell Me I'm Wrong - I've only listened to this once, I don't remember it well enough.

Trade It Up - In contrast to what Simon thinks, I think this is a great song from Beverley. I think it's because she has the same sound of voice in this as in 'Black Butta' in that it's kind of a rock-chick voice. I hope to see more of this side of her among any future albums. I'd rate this in my top 5 from the album.

Back To You - Another one I've only had the chance to give one listen and therefore can't say much about.

I know I can't speak for this album as a whole, but I think I might prefer it to 'Affirmation'.

On 'Affirmation' I really like:

"Come As You Are"

"Straight Jacket"

"Keep This Fire Burning"

"No One Ever Loves In Vain"

"Tea & Sympathy"

"Till I See Ya"

and on 'Music City Soul' I really like:

"After You"

"No Man's Land"

"The Queen of Starting Over"

"Black Butta"

"Why Me, Why You, Why Now"

"Trade it Up"

This is the same amount, but I haven't heard all of 'Music City Soul'.

It's a difficult thing, really, to say what you would have done with this mess of a project, because the album just isn't even half as commercial as Affirmation and so picking a lead single even is difficult. I'd have probably gone:

Single 1 - Ain't That A Lot Of Love/No Man's Land - NML is easily the strongest thing on the album and is really a modern soul classic. The one thing they got SO right was the video for it - love it! However radio may have been more tmepted if they had an uptempo to play, and what with being a well-known cover, ATALOL would work.

Single 2 - Queen Of Starting Over - Another really amazing, cool soul song. It deserved better than that sh!tty 'video'!

Single 3 - Black Butta - Not a favourite of mine at all, but perhaps necessary to get radio play with it's uptempo sound.

Single 4 - After You - The video for this was so great and it got to #6 on airplay so obviously radio liked it. Shame it flopped.

Next time she needs to go back to her pop sound. Songs like Keep This Fire Burning are classic Bev and have wide appeal. ^_^
