Young pop star Beyonce had raised a few eyebrows during Sunday night’s Grammy Awards, reciting an apparently scripted line that introduced music legend Tina Turner as “the queen.” That designation seemingly didn’t sit well with Franklin, who was in the audience Sunday at Los Angeles’ Staples Center. The Detroit star, long known as the Queen of Soul, pulled rank Tuesday afternoon in a statement released to the Free Press. “I am not sure whose toes I may have stepped on or whose ego I may have bruised between the Grammy writers and Beyonce,” the statement read. “However I dismissed it as a cheap shot for controversy. “In addition to that, I thank the Grammys and the voting academy for my 20th Grammy and love to Beyonce anyway.” Franklin was awarded with the best gospel performance award for “Never Gonna Break My Faith,” her duet with Mary J. Blige. Beyonce may have a couple lines of defense: Turner has been loosely nicknamed “the Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll” through her lengthy career, even releasing a 1984 concert film of the same name. And in 1975, she turned in a memorable performance in the Who’s musical film “Tommy,” where she played the role of the Acid Queen.

And Mahalia Jackson was Queen of Gospel...or should that been Shirley Caesar? And, Kirk Franklin is like King of Gospel...but a whole range of other singers might be deemed 'prince of gospel'. and there are many, many, many more. Aretha is basically a big fat idiotic blob. She and her breats can probaby be seen from space, for crying out loud..
