Quite honestly the pace of the show overshadowed the lyrics for me, it was only on thinking back that I realised, it made no difference to me as I loved all of it. However humpty dumpty reminded me of another lyric, huffed and puffed and blow my house down and I did wonder!!

Humpty Dumpty has already been dropped from the lyrics.

I suppose thats fine Meg, although as I said it moved at such a pace as to not worry me. However I see someone is constantly posting the same thing about closing yet again on WOS. Its a bit like chicago over again.I see you say the changes are coming about immediately and do so wish I lived nearer, I think I would be there every night. Tomorrow night off to see South pacific on tour with Dave willets who has played the phantom in the west end and Helena who came second in the tv programme how do you solve a problem like maria but it wont be like seeing GWTW. Again it is a show I have seen several times before.

I too thought of huff and puff when hearing about humpty dumpty..what on earth have they changed the lyric to then..

it didnt bother me at all to be honest - I rather liked it as she fell back onto the lounger on those lyrics..

Claire saw a poster for GWTW (with Darius on it) on the side of a bus today. she did take a picture but hasn't uploaded it yet.
thats great! I saw on of Shaw as Roxy on a bus and was thinking if only Darius was there instead!! he does look so gorgeous as Rhett on the billboards etc.
I'm glad there's one on a bus and more in the theatre adverts......lets hope they keep it up as the posters in the stations have now been changed :(

It went very well....much better in fact.

I do like how she does that song....but I could also live without it and replace some other bits

they really should have consulted us

I thought it was "I was queen of the county, belle of the ball - but like humpty dumpty I had a great fall.".I was trying to think of a suitable replacement to rythm with ball..to imply she had taken a fall..LOL

I still could live without Prissys song..and the song after frank gets killed - or at least a shorter version..lets be honest..I just want more Darius on stage!!
I was queen of the county, the belle of the ball....it is clear sitting here that I had a great fall.....

Frankly, my dear, I suspect most theatergoers still won’t give a damn!

News on the Rialto is that the new “Gone With the Wind” musical is battening down the hatches, people. After weathering a storm of critical scorn, producers of the London tuner have announced that the musical will be trimmed by 15 minutes, which brings it down to a brisk three hours 45 minutes. Hardly fleet enough for our ADD-age, if you ask me!

The $9.5 million show, directed by Trevor Nunn, is of course based on Margaret Mitchell’s magnolia-soaked Civil War epic novel. Still, “GWTW” remains most beloved for the sumptuous 1939 movie version, which starred Vivien Leigh and Clark Gable in one of the most swoon-worthy romances ever to burnish the big screen. Sigh! But I digress.

So, if there are any hardy souls out there who have experienced the gale forces of “Wind” for themselves, I’d love to know: just how hard does it blow? Category 4?

I attended opening night (April 22) in London. Actually, the production already has been cut from about 4 hours to 3 hours and 10 minutes. The further trims will bring it to about 3 hours, not an unreasonable length for an epic novel.

And remember, it’s based on Margaret Mitchell’s novel, not the movie.

With that said, I enjoyed the production! It is a fresh take on a beloved story, and includes characters and scenes previously seen only in the reader’s mind’s eye. The sets are great, and I think the entire cast does a good job, with the leads — Darius Danesh and Jill Paice — due special praise. Several tunes have stayed in my head, including the powerful “Wings of a Dove.”

I saw it a second time the following day, and I’m happy to report the story stands on its own; one does not need to know the book to understand. And the matinee audience gave it a standing ovation, so maybe the public is refuting what the critics said. (I did feel the critics were competing to come up with the cutest take-offs of “damn,” “gone” and “wind” in their reviews!)

I would encourage everyone to give it a chance and decide for yourself.

Hey John, thanks for sharing about the GWTW musical. It is indeed impressive that you went back to see the show the very next day. High praise! And I fear you may have a point about tendency of theater critics towards irresponsible punning…speaking of which, anyone else out there swept away by “Wind?”

George posted this on .net. Yesterday's Telegraph - which I didn't get.

I only just read my Daily Telegragh. I left it in my bag.

I saw that bus and the one with the GWTW logo while I was having a coffee at Kings Cross yesterday. It perked me up after an overnight flight and journey from Gatwick, before catching the train home.

Knew just what you wanted :)

....shame you didn't have time to go to the show

It was a nice welcome back to the UK.

To tell you the truth I was completely done in when I got home last night so I don't think I'd've made it through the show anyway. At least my return train journey was without incident.

Tomorrow I've got another family celebration - a double First Communion and family party.
