Arrgh! I wonder if there's something wrong with Orange broadband again. I keep getting cut off and then I have to sign into bj again too. That's 3 times in short succession. I'm getting really irritated.

I wonder if it happens at heavy usage times and at a certain point the server just randomly disconnects a number of people.

My heart leapt when I saw Dvd

but it's the film. Sorry, Clark, you're not my Rhett any more.

I'm not sure I would enjoy the film now. I might try to watch the last half hour or so of it before the Making of.....on Monday.
I have ordered the film on DVD as I've never seen it and I can't get TCM on freeview, sob sob.
I've just picked it up in WH Smith's on the grounds that I'm never going to watch it unless it's something i can turn off and walk away from and come back later. It cost £4 - which is more than enough. The only bits I've seen up to now seemed so over-acted that I couldn't stay and watch.

I made myself watch it all the way through 3 times before I went to the New London. The one thing I really love in the film version is Max Steiner's score.

I didn't miss Clark Gable one bit.

Because it's been nearly a year since I'd seen him in the flesh, Darius was Darius at first sight during the narration. At that moment I was feeling warm and fuzzy about the man not the character.

Thereafter, he was Rhett. Lines from the book would come to mind and I'd think, yes that's him to a T. I'm glad they kept that "like one of the Borgias '' in. Charles' and Ashley's reaction to Scarlett's response is so funny. I preferred both of those actors to the film's counterparts. It underlines the guys' inherent distrust in the exotic outsider, the feeling as they say in Scotland that Rhett "is nae clean tattie" but that he is clever and resourceful.

Margaret Mitchell's Rhett is not the bland, sanitised charmer portrayed in the film. IMHO Darius portrays his unsavouryness better - his self-seeking and his contempt for Southern society underlined by wrapping it up in the exaggerated conventional manners expected by that very society. The book's Rhett enjoys yanking their chain with witty comments and the good ladies and gents don't know whether he's on a level or whether they should feel insulted. Sometimes he deliberately shocks or unsettles. BUT when people need his support he gives it unselfishly and unquestionably. Scarlett can't read him but he can see right through her, almost read her mind. She can never best him. GWTW the musical gets that over but I don't think the film succeeds in that to the same extent.

I will try and watch the film in a week or two. For me, Darius was Rhett/ Rhett was Darius from the first description in the book. Perfect casting.
glad you managed to get a DVD Meg......did feel guilty I hadn't found you one after you letting me have the first one we found
There's no guarentt I'll ge to watch it anyway, SDpam. You gave it a much better home - this one may be put aside for months.
Not including us here I feel that the more the film is shown on tv etc the more people are going to compare the show with the film which is I think not a good thing as one is based on the book. However I like baytree loved Max steiners Taras theme and I did think they could have got away with that as an opening for the show but of course their would be astronomical royalties involved. Perhaps they should have asked D to compose an opening theme which I dont think would be beyond him.

We mustn't forget he's still tied to 19 Recordings. The recorded songs are not his to do as he pleases with. They can only be revealed with the blessing of 19R. The latter will want to play their cards close to their body until the album is nearly ready. I can't see the release being scheduled until next year now. D

Darius won't be available to promote any music (other than GWTW's) until October and the last few months of the year are always chock-a-block with Greatest Hits, Special editions and MOR designed for "no brain", throw in the trolley Christmas gifts, so I think 19R will hang fire.

I hope there's news of the cast recording soon.

When and if there is news of the cast recording will it be mostly Jill as she has so many songs and only a small amount of D. in comparison. Of course I will be buying it but wish there would be a LOT of D.
