#1 Basement Jaxx 'Good Luck' (01-02-02-04-06-07-10-10-12-14-15-18-21-26-34-39) (16 weeks)

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/61G3PGB24GL._AA240_.jpg

Released in the early part of 2004 when it was quiet it managed to keep off one of my favourite songs from 2003 off the top. That being 'Hey Ya!'. For the first three years of doing my chart I did it like the official chart where songs would chart high on their week of release. This was their first of two number ones and like most songs which I enjoy first time around this didn't perform so well on its summer re-release making #6.

Ranking all my number ones on how much I like them now this ranks #62!

#2 Franz Ferdinand 'Take Me Out' (01-01-02-02-01-02-02-03-04-05-06-09-13-17-20-25-31-40) (18 weeks)

This is the only song that's ever re-climbed to the top of my chart. It's not something I'm normally a fan of but I figured this was better than 'Last Train Home' and all other competition. This is their only number one single though they've hit the top 5 with almost every release.

I still love this song to this day. So much so that I think this is the 2nd best of all my number ones!

I'm not so much a fan of it now though I still think it's quite good. Just turning 15 at the time I was into teen angst-rock like a lot of people my age. Quite a few 2004 number ones wouldn't come close now...

Wow, this is quite some time ago now! I'm not particularly fond of any of these, 'Take Me Out' is a classic though ^_^

Thanks! ^_^

I'd done a top 10 for years (since about '00/01) but lost them all :( I kept my 2004 ones and then when I joined CC in the summer I went back and extended previous ones to a top 40.

#4 Keane 'Somewhere Only We Know' (01-01-02-06-07-11-13-16-18-23-28-33) (12 weeks)

Not the type of song that would be likely to do quite as well now but I still think this is fairly decent and was a really promising song. Just a shame they never really lived up to that promise. Highly unlikely that they'd come ever close to the top again...

#5 Blink-182 'I Miss You' (01-02-02-02-02-02-05-04-06-11-14-14-17-19-22-23-26-27-31-35-38) (21 weeks)

Another song unlikely to get to number one now. Mainly due to the fact that I now hate them. Though I do still quite like this, as well as 'Adam's Song' which is really great. Judging by its chart run I must obviously have loved it at the time though.

#6 Jet 'Look What You've Done' (01-01-01-05-08-13-14-12-16-20-19-26-36-40) (14 weeks)

Now this definitely wouldn't be number one now! I guess this shows how much my tastes have changed I guess. It's still an alright song but I find them more than a little dull now, especially after their second album was released. I did really love 'Get Born' at the time though. This is their only number one, despite 'Are You Gonna Be My Girl?' being in my top 5 singles of 2004 it never made it due to being released in the same week as the second best song which spent 7 weeks at the top....

#7 Basement Jaxx 'Plug It In' (01-01-04-05-04-09-12-12-16-15-16-18-23-25-29-34-34-36-38) (19 weeks)

The first act to get a second number one. It's the final (so far) too though pretty much everything they release charts. This has always been, and still is, one of my favourite Jaxx songs. Doesn't generally seem to be that popular though...

#8 Wolfman ft Pete Doherty 'For Lovers' (01-01-02-04-04-05-09-11-11-14-18-22-22-26-33-37-34-40)

http://images-eu.amazon.com/images/P/B0001Q5ZEE.02.MZZZZZZZ.jpg

Probably the most 'obscure' song so far. I do still quite like it as it shows a different side to Pete and is really rather quite lovely. But it's not that great. Pete Doherty is the only person to have number ones with 3 different acts, all of which were in 2004. This kept The Rasmus 'In The Shadows' and Franz Ferdinand 'Matinee' off the top spot. Infact its first week at number one was the first week since the opening week that the top 2 hadn't been number one singles!

(#83 - they're starting to get quite good now...)

#9 The Streets 'Fit But You Know It' (01-01-01-01-04-06-06-06-08-10-14-18-23-25-25-28-33-40) (18 weeks)

4 weeks? Christ! Though to be fair I did (and still do) LOVE his debut album. I can only assume I was still caught up in it and thought this was good. All four singles off this album went top 10 and had decent chart runs though this (the worst) was the only one to mke it to the top. This kept three songs off the top spot; Ash 'Orpheus', Morrissey 'Irish Blood, English Heart', Keane 'Everybody's Changing' (all are better in retrospect...).

(#97 - one of four number ones I would say I now 'don't like', thought it's the least bad of the four)

#10 The Killers 'Mr Brightside' (01-01-01-01-01-01-01-03-04-03-03-06-08-09-12-13-17-19-21-23-24-28-31-32-31-33-36) (27 weeks)

As you can probably tell from the chart run, I adored this! I still do, though not quite as much. By far my favourite song of theirs and the first of three number ones for them. Only one other song has spent as long at the top and only one other song has spent as long on the chart, which went two weeks longer.

One of the main disadvantages of doing your chart by the release schedule is sometimes deserving songs miss out on the top spot. This, along with the previously mentioned Jet song and 'Kiss Of Life' by Supergrass all came out in the same week but were all in my top 10 singles of 2004 and because I loved this so much they never managed to climb. It also held off 'Golden Touch' by Razorlight (also in my year end top 10) and 'Walk Idiot Walk' by The Hives.

(#05 - considering this is the weakest year for #1's 2 in the top 5 is pretty good...)

I nearly lost all of my charts when I changed PCs, I was not a happy bunny.

I didn't know you liked Basement Jaxx so much :o From these, Keane, The Streets and The Killers are my faves. I hear 'Mr Brightside' literally everywhere in Sheff.

#11 Snow Patrol 'Spitting Games' (01-02-02-02-04-05-08-13-15-21-23-26-31-30-37) (15 weeks)

The song to finally knock 'Mr Brightside' off the top. It's certainly one of my favourite Snow Patrol songs. Deserving of the number one and should probably have held on for the three weeks it dropped down to #2.

Hmmm, it's ok but they've had far better I think. A tad dull perhaps, looking back.

I really liked this at the time and have always loved them but recently I've gone off their second album a bit and don't find this song as good as I used to. It's still alright though and I'm sure it'll re-grow. It kept Kasabian 'LSF' and Lostprophets 'Last Summer' off the top!

#14 The Killers 'All These Things That I've Done' (01-01-03-03-05-04-05-09-13-12-16-21-24-29-31-34-31-30-32-38) (20 weeks)

Another song I liked more at the time than I do now. It's ok but I was definitely caught up in Killers-fever for 6 months after Mr Brightside. I remember loving the album, too. I don't now, although it certainly does have its moments. This kept 'Cold Hard b**ch' by Jet off the top.

Another band whos hype I got caught up in at the time. They're ok but I can't listen to the album now. I still like this, but not so much. Prefer the other singles, apart from the God-awful '...September...' :puke: You can tell from the chart runs now that songs hardly moved around Christmas. In all its 3 weeks at the top Razorlight's 'Vice' was runner-up.

(#87)

Great listing so far... not a bad song among them tbh (except 'Fit But You Know It' :puke2: ). Special mentions to Take Me Out, Somewhere Only We Know, Mr Brightside, Spitting Games, Can't Stand Me Now and All These Things That I've Done
