February 25, 200817 yr Author #45 Coldplay 'Talk' (02-01-01-03-07-06-09-13-16-19-32) (11 weeks) http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B000CNGGAI.01._SCMZZZZZZZ_.jpg From my first listen to the album this was my favourite song on it. I loved it all the way through 2005 so was glad when it got a release. I've never been that big a Coldplay fan but they are a fairly decent singles band and they don't deserve the amount of stick they get. Bit bored of this now though, prefer 'Fix You'. (#74)
February 25, 200817 yr Author #46 José Gonzalez 'Heartbeats' (01-03-04-05-05-05-07-13-15-23-23-17-21-23-27-30-35-35-34-39) (20 weeks) http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51Y8HRYZXYL._AA240_.jpg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s4_4abCWw-w That song off the advert. That bloke that ruined that Knife song. Both things that I've seen this described as and the former is probably what it'll be remembered for. It's the second, and so far, last cover version to hit my top spot. I adore The Knife and the original of this song, but that doesn't stop me loving this. It's everything a cover version should be as it turns a song into something completely different. What was an electronic, dancey song turned into a folk track. I adore both versions of it, both should be in my top 100 singles of the decade when it ends next year. It kept Richard Ashcroft off the top with 'Break The Night With Colour'. :| (#24) Edited February 25, 200817 yr by RabbitFurCoat
February 25, 200817 yr Author #47 Arctic Monkeys 'When The Sun Goes Down' (01-03-04-04-09-13-21-24-27-28-33-38) (12 weeks) http://www.musicomh.com/music/videos/arctic-monkeys-2.jpg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2W_hEdt1Xes I first heard this song when I first heard of the Arctic Monkeys in about April/May 2005 when it still had the title of 'Scummy'. I downloaded about 5 or 6 songs by them at that point and I could tell they would be something special. This was my favourite of the lot and whilst I don't like it quite so much now and I think they have much better I still think it's a belter of a song. This kept Will Young off the top with 'All Time Love'. (#64)
February 25, 200817 yr Author #48 The Shortwave Set 'Repeat To Fade' (01-01-03-06-08-20-25-31-33-38) (10 weeks) http://us.ent1.yimg.com/images.launch.yahoo.com/000/030/964/30964431.jpg  I remember first hearing this on 6Music and putting instantly putting it at number one. I still love it now and must've got bored of it quickly as it had such a short chart run, though I can't remember. Deserved the top spot, and looking at my next number one should've stayed there longer... This also kept Will Young off for both its weeks at number one! (#31)
February 25, 200817 yr Author #49 Fall Out Boy 'Sugar, We're Going Down' (01-03-11-23-28-35) (6 weeks) http://www.musicomh.com/music/videos/fall-out-boy.jpg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4PdDPrwIwhI I only liked this for about four weeks, though I did really like it during those weeks. As you can tell from its chart run I soon saw the error of my ways. No other song has spent 6 weeks or less on the chart. Well, apart from my current number one... It kept The Go! Team off the top with 'Ladyflash'. :( (#99)
February 25, 200817 yr Author #50 Goldfrapp 'Ride A White Horse' (01-01-05-04-05-06-09-13-13-15-19-23-29-30) (14 weeks) http://www.musicomh.com/music/videos/goldfrapp-3.jpg Half way! And how odd that this should be my 50th number one... I always thought 'Supernature' was a really good album, just a lot different from their previous ones. Apart from this though I don't think they chose the best songs as singles as I always loved 'Koko' and 'Satin Chic' a lot more. Though I'd always thought this was great too. It kept the Magic Numbers 'I See You, You See Me' and We Are Scientists 'It's A Hit' off the top. (#38)
February 25, 200817 yr I'll fully comment on this when it is completed. But there are some great #1s here.
February 27, 200817 yr Author #51 Stellastarr* 'Sweet Troubled Soul' (01-01-01-01-03-07-07-07-10-12-13-15-16-14-20-22-25-27-39) (19 weeks) http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/31YSKMRCEYL._AA240_.jpg I thought this was the first song I ever heard by these but it later appeard 'My Coco' got one week at number 36 in 2004. I don't remember hearing them before this. I loved it as soon as I heard it and it spent four thoroughly deserving weeks at the top. Although I think this song is up there with the stuff from the debut I wasn't impressed with the other stuff I heard so never got round to buying it. Clap Your Hands Say Yeah 'In This Home On Ice' and Kanye West ft Lupe Fiasco 'Touch The Sky' were kept at number two behind this. (#08 - at the end of 2006 this was my single of the year whereas now it's my 3rd favourite number one of the year, although one of the ones its behind wasn't counted in my end of year chart as it featured the year before and I never count songs which made it the previous year)
February 27, 200817 yr Author #52 Kanye West ft Lupe Fiasco 'Touch The Sky' (02-02-02-01-06-08-12-15-20-24-25-30-32-37) (14 weeks) http://z.about.com/d/rap/1/H/p/2/-/-/KanyeWestTouchTheSky.jpg From the moment I bought the rather poor album this featured on this was by far and away my favourite song on it. I'd loved it for 6 months when it was released so felt it had to get a week at the top before being knocked out of the top 5 by 5 new entries. I kind of wish I hadn't now as although I do still like it, I've gone off it and prefer others of his. The Kooks 'Naive' had to settle for number two behind it. (#55)
February 27, 200817 yr Author #53 Gnarls Barkley 'Crazy' (01-01-04-03-04-04-04-05-07-16-17-18-24-29-36-40) (16 weeks) http://www.capndesign.com/images/etc/20060324gnarlsbarkley.jpg Not many UK number ones reach the same spot on my chart but this one was definitely deserving. I'd adored it since I first heard Zane Lowe play it in late December/Early January and if I hadn't known it for so long by the time of its release it would probably have had a bit longer at the top. I thought it might be a big hit but I never imagined it would be quite as huge as it was. Definitely deserving though, made a nice change for something a bit different to come from nowhere and capture everyone like this did. It kept Franz Ferdinand 'The Fallen' and Islands 'Rough Gem' off the top. (#16)
February 27, 200817 yr Author #54 Flaming Lips 'The Yeah Yeah Yeah Song' (01-02-06-10-09-11-10-17-18-20-22-28-32-39) (14 weeks) http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/f/f6/FlamingLips_YeahYeahYeahSong.png/200px-FlamingLips_YeahYeahYeahSong.png http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LNLJfb6jQVk I'd always quite liked these guys but apart from 'Yoshimi...' nothing had ever caught me until this did. It was so unbeleiveably catchy and would stay in my head for hours and whilst that is usually an annoyance it just made this even better. I still love it now, especially as I don't listen to it as often. It kept Infernal 'From Paris To Berlin' at number 2. HAHAHAHAHAHA! (#45)
February 27, 200817 yr Author #55 The Raconteurs 'Steady, As She Goes' (01-03-05-05-12-16-24-30-37-37) (10 weeks) http://www.adrians.co.uk/acatalog/XLS229A.jpg Despite this project being completely different to The White Stripes it still had the same familiar pattern that Jack White albums have for me. One excellent song, released as a single, a couple of other pretty decent ones and the rest I'm not fussed with. This was the excellent one, I never thought it was that much different from a Stripes song, but it seemed to have a certain edgyness that's often missing. February 27, 200817 yr Author #56 Sigur Ros 'Hoppipolla' (01-01-02-04-05-11-13-14-14-18-18-22-27-33-33-39) (16 weeks) http://z.about.com/d/top40/1/H/L/A/sigurros.jpg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WkP_NaMsrMM Another re-issue to top my chart. I did know and like it when it was originally released and it made number 6 but it was over the next few months that I really started to appreciate its charm. The warm, melodic, angel-like voice with the equally wonderful instrumentation behind it was always going to win me over over time. It may have took the Planet Earth ads to make it known to more people but what a wonderful song to have over an advert. It's the only song ever to have topped my chart which isn't in English, and although I don't understand a word, it seems to make perfect sense. Jenny Lewis & The Watson Twins were held off by this with 'You Are What You Love'. (#09) Edited February 27, 200817 yr by RabbitFurCoat
