#72 Jarvis Cocker 'Don't Let Him Waste Your Time' (01-02-04-04-13-19-30-39) (8 weeks)

I'm surprised how quickly I let this fall out. I've always thought it was a really strong single and the best song on the album. Still like it now although I'm not so fond of the album as I was when I first bought it. I do love the video, probably my favourite of the year. Coincidentally, my favourite cover (as in cd) of the year was also from Jarvis, for his other single; 'Fat Children', just some small tampering of the album cover!

#73 Guillemots 'Annie, Let's Not Wait' (01-01-01-01-04-07-11-19-26-39)

I adore Guillemots. Their album was my favourite of 2006 and one of my top 5 of the decade so far. Although everything on it is excellent I generally found the singles best which was good, this was always going to make number one. It was during its time at number one I decided to change how I compiled my chart due to it being too confusing with songs being released to download and charting weeks before release and I couldn't be bothered in keeping up so just charted whatever I wanted, whenever. It certainly did muck up chart runs though as songs tended to fall down faster, something which the last few number ones have suffered from. The Shortwave Set 'Casual Use' and Just Jack 'Starz In Their Eyes' stalled at number two behind it.

:puke: I can't bear to listen to this anymore. Everything I hear 'Yoo-hoo' I cringe. Haven't listened to it in ages, won't listen to it again for ages! Shortwave Set were held off again, as was Kelis and Cee-Lo with 'Lil' Star'.

I'd liked the stuff off his first album but it wasn't until this that I really appreciated him. I loved it right from the start although it took far longer with the album. It's not one of my favourite of his anymore, it appears a bit noveltyish, but it's still very good.

I loved this song right from when I first heard it. I'd heard 6Music playe it a few times but never caught what it was. I'd seen people talk about it on forums but never bothered to look into it but then I saw the video on E4 and charted it straight away! I really did love it, though I don't so much now. The other couple of songs I've heard from them are kind of samey and I've gone off them a bit.

A long awaited follow-up from me which I didn't really like at first but given a few listens I fell in love with it which is what I'd wanted. I still think it's a belter of a song now although I'm certainly not the fan I once was. I haven't listened the the second album in full for ages. Disappointing, but they've still made some cracking songs which I love and well, that's enough! Calvin Harris 'Acceptable In The 80s' and Patrick Wolf 'The Magic Position' were kept at 2.

You can tell from its extremely short chart run that this probably didn't deserve to reach the top. I do like it, but that's it. It was never number one material really and only made it as their first single failed but spent so long on my chart (it was actually the second best performing song of 2006) but never made it. This is their weakest single, but the only one to reach the top. Little Man Tate 'This Must Be Love' was number two behind it.

Last years most undeserving Pop-Flop. I loved this song, not so much now but it's still a fantastic pop song which deserved a lot more. Not particularly original but a good fun song as good as most pop in the charts. It held Arctic Monkeys 'Brianstorm' off the top.

This came from nowhere to enter straight at the top! Loved it right from when I first heard it, and listened to it loads in one week and justified its entry position. I must've gone off it quickly though I'm not sure why. It's magnificent. Truely beautiful and sung in the most wonderful of Scottish accents. It must make Kieran from the View ashamed. Stunning song. If only Scott Mills had got behind this instead of what's probably the album's worst song. But then he's a Radio 1 DJ so what does he know about good music?

#81 The Shins 'Australia' (25-14-04-04-01-02-04-07-10-11-13-14-16-22-28-34-40) (17 weeks)

I did quite like lead single 'Phantom Limb' but it wasn't until this song that I started to love The Shins and buy their stunning album (which was only beaten to my #1 of the year by M.I.A. right at the death). A joyous upbeat indie-pop song which just missed the top 40 which really isn't bad for a band like The Shins. I do think there are better on the album and there's more to come...
