Anyone here knows (and likes) Emiliana Torrini, an Icelandic singer?

She will release a new album this year

Torrini released two albums: Love in the Time of Science (1999) and Fisherman's Woman (2004).

The first album (and my fave) is more electronic and the second is more folky

To Be Free

Baby Blue

Easy

Dead Things

Unemployed in Summertime

Sunny Road

Heartstopper

Gollum's Song (from Lord of the Rings)

Yeah got the first album too - quite cool, but will always be overshadowed by bjork (i can see the new bjork headlines now  )

if there's some more eg white co-writes on the new album like the first could do good things...well if joss stone, will young, adele, duffy etc etc

OK she's not the new Bjork but she's very good on her own...

I watched some live performances from her best fansite and I was surprised by her wonderful voice :)

well we know she's not the new Bjork, it was trying to get the idea of lazy journolism (like how Lykke Li is the new Robyn  )

and anyway i guess jounos would have gone with that instead of saying she is the new Curt Smith

I remember when Love In The Time Of Science was released.. I really liked Easy when it came out and To Be Free as well! I wasn't that bigger fan of Unemployed In Summertime but one of my brothers bought the single!

'Love in the Time of Science' is a terrific album - I love it. 'To Be Free' and 'Unemployed In Summertime' are both classic singles.

The difference between Torrini and Bjork? Torrini employs decent songwriters.... and has much stricter quality control ;)

I love To Be Free and it is one of my fav songs of all time, I hardly know any of her other music tho so I'll watch those videos tomorrow, thanks for posting :D

Same here...

I knew I will like this album since the first listen

Now I'm trying to get into her second album

^_^

Also her voice isn't as high as Bjork but defintelly clearer...

PS this is her best site

well i guess that depends on your opinion of people like Brother Beyond and Tears For Fears

however thinking about Closest Thing To Heaven tho...actually they missed out trying to catch the Donnie Darko freek #1 - if this was released a couple of years later it could have been linked with the feeling's brand of dodgy soft-rock

 and here Roland Jaime Orzabal de la Quintana goes indie-rock with Raoul And The Kings Of Spain...and you have to agree much better than the song above..or worlds apart

actually was watching the sunnyroad video this morning on dvd and even tho Arcitecture in Helsinki came up next - what i really wanted to watch next was...

I just read her profile at AllMusic here

Interesting: on similar artists you can see some famous artists/bands like Goldfrapp, Beth Orton, Bjork, Tori Amos, Sade, Cocteau Twins, Nina Persson, Sinead O'Connor, Sneaker Pimps, Sade, Portishead, Kate Bush, and Shirley Manson

PS ...and Toni Halliday

It IS a good album. A bit bland (for use of a better word haha) but still nice. ^_^
