imo this year Western Europe has sent in better songs than Eastern Europe, with some exceptions of course.

 

I agree Mykka, many Western countries have come up with the goods this year...I still think there will be at least 7 Eastern countries in the top 10 in the final though...

looks like it will be a good contest this year, so far I like or love 15 of the songs which is far more than previous years, though my music tastes have greatly diversified recently...I never would have liked the Swiss entry in the past...

Can't really rank the songs because I haven't heard that many, but here is what I think about the ones I've heard:

 

UK: Rubbish, will finish between 20-25 and no, not because of political voting but just because it is rubbish.

 

Russia: Dull meaningless song, why did Timbaland get involved with this kinda c**p (money, of course). No doubt will finish inside top 5 because of neighbourly voting and diaspora voting but I doubt even Russia can pull it off and win with this kinda junk.

 

Germany: With their popularity disappearing No Angels had to try ESC as their last option. Very average song and just gets lost in the competition.

 

Denmark: Again, very average and you'll forget it right away when it ends. Cannot see it qualifying.

 

Norway: Many here seems to like this one, I think it is dull but same kinda dull song from Hungary did well last year so this could go far.

 

Finland: Not as bad as many are saying here but not good either. One of the more memorable songs and could benefit from that but why are they singing in Finnish? Thou I doubt it would be much better in any other language.

 

Iceland: My favourite so far, very catchy excellent dance/pop track. Hopefully will do very well in the competition.

 

Ireland: The turkey could have a top 5 finish and I wouldn't mind. It is catchy and even slightly funny. I like it.

 

Estonia: Another joke, this time it just isn't funny at all. I really cannot see this going through the semis, rubbish.

 

Switzerland: Very Eros Ramazotti type of song. Ok but on the other hand the song doesn't seem to go anywhere. Would benefit greatly from a better/catchier chorus.

 

Andorra: Quite basic but on the other hand quite nice pop song. I wouldn't mind seeing this in the final.

 

Czech Republic: Very average and not very good pop track. Will certainly do better than last year but not sure if it will qualify.

 

Macedonia: Rubbish all through the song but no doubt will qualify again thanks to neighbourly voting. Really should fail to qualify.

 

Bulgaria: Last year a Safri-duo copy and now Bomfunk MCs copy. Not good at all but just like Macedonia probably will qualify thanks to friendly neighbours.

 

Greece: Maybe it is a grower but for now after a few listens I find it very bland.
