Newcastle are doing bad, but there is not much risk of them ending up in the Bottom 3. Derby County, Reading and Fulham are all gaining points at an abysmally slow rate. If Newcastle don't get any points for another 2 months they will most likely not be in the Bottom 3.

 

Points gained since December 9th, eleven games played since then.

 

Newcastle 6

Fulham 6

Reading 5

Derby 3.

By two months do you mean the end of the season? If you do, surely you don't think they will survive in the Premiership by getting 0 points until the end of the season? Surely 28 points won't be enough to survive :o :unsure:

A good point. The last few games of the season often produce strange results as mid table teams and even front teams have nothing to play for. So in that case a few more points would be required.

Can imagine that 31 points will be enough to stay up this year.

I don't think it'll be as high as the usual 40 but I'd be VERY surprised if it's as low as 31...

The difference is that Reading and Fulham aren't playing badly and are only losing by the odd goal. Reading haven't lost by more than two goals in their 8 successive defeats. Newcastle have shipped 16 in their last 5 games. Granted they were against good teams but still, it's not something that the other teams struggle that much with.

Is a bad spell for Newcastle, but you've only just got to look at Reading and how they seem to be picking themselves up from their slum. Watching MOTD tonight Newcastle should have easily beaten Blackburn, but they're a team low on confidence so they missed chances that they should have stuck in the back of the net. Looks like this relegation battle will go right down to the wire! Could be anyone of 8 teams to take the final two relegation spots.

I disagree Von Roon. Fulham and Derby are already down imo, but yeah could be anyone out of Sunderland, Wigan, Bolton, Birmingham and Reading for that last spot.

The fact that Liverpool are in a scrap for 4th place is a disgrace in itself.

I find it refreshing that there is a scrap for 4th place, instead of there being a 15 point void between 4th and 5th, which leads to boring safe football
