Posted February 24, 200817 yr Immigrants will be able to "earn" a fast-track British passport under new Government plans announced today. Proposals in the Green Paper will include citizenship credits for migrants doing voluntary work. Jacqui Smith, the Home Secretary, will outline how migrants can 'win' citizenship once a certain number of credits have been attained. Migrants who break the law or spend an extended period of time outside Britain will have points deducted. The plans fit in with Gordon Brown's Britishness drive, which ministers see as essential to building community cohesion and combating the threat of extremism. What do you think? Do the new plans make it too easy to get a British passport? Should the criteria for citizenship be based on deeds or time spent in the country? Can citizenship be earned? Will the campaign to encourage pride in British identity create a more cohesive society or is it more spin from a Government that won't confront the immigration issue? Source: Sunday Telegraph

February 25, 200817 yr Length of time in the country is the main one for me...and there shouldn't be one rule for Americans and another for other countries. The same amount of time should apply to everyone.

Do you realise the sheer amount of utterly barmy laws and practices exist out there...? No one could possibly be expected to be 100% compliant, I know I'm certainly not....
