TCM Will Go Behind-the-Scenes of London's Gone with the Wind

By Mark Shenton

17 Mar 2008

Turner Classic Movies (TCM) is documenting the behind-the-scenes preparations for the new musical stage version of Gone With the Wind, which begins previews at the West End's New London Theatre April 5 prior to an official opening April 22.

For "Gone with the Wind – The Making of the Musical," a TCM camera crew has been given exclusive access to shadow the production, following the process of the cast and crew, led by director Trevor Nunn and stars Darius Danesh (as Rhett Butler) and Jill Paice (as Scarlett O'Hara), as they prepare to bring the show to the stage. Nunn, Danesh and Paice are amongst those who will be interviewed, alongside other members of the cast and crew, as they rehearse the production; there will also be behind-the-scenes footage of marketing campaign meetings and photoshoots.

In a press statement, Alan Musa (TCM VP and Channel Manager) said, "'Gone with the Wind' continues to be one of TCM's most popular films and the stage production further emphasizes its appeal to audiences today. We are thrilled to have this unique opportunity to give our viewers an insight into such a major production."

The U.K. television premiere of "Gone with the Wind – The Making of the Musical" will be April 20 at 1 PM on TCM, preceded by the film at 9 AM. It will be repeated on April 24 at 8 PM.

For tickets for the show at the New London Theatre, contact the box office at 0870 890 0141; for further information visit www.gwtwthemusical.com.

It's in a different place - so more people who didn't know, will now know it's on. I had noticed it was already.
But not for the whole 6 months. That must be good to know he's doing longer than he normally does - just for you.

I've just been looking on TCM for April. It's down to be shown on the 24th but not the 20th. It'll make multi recordings impossible.. Virgin don't have TCM2 which shows the repeats.

Found this slightly different info on the TCM documentary.

Upcoming GWTW events

February 9, 2008

OK everyone—who wants to organize a road trip to London for the GWTW musical opening? I can tell you that the producer had contacted surviving film cast members—Ann Rutherford, Mickey Kuhn, Cammie King, etc—about attending the opening. But they never heard anything more so that is all up in the air. I do know that Ann Rutherford has commited to attending a screening of GWTW at a theater in Honolulu, Hawaii in early May

Sorry Meg, this more or less repeats your post....didn't realise.
I was trying to find out whether the TCM documentary would be available to buy, as I can't record it.

if they are showing the film on the 20th it seems a wasted opportunity! why does nothing go smoothly - I do hope they show it more than once! most of these channels repeat their programs over and over
